Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While listing the reasons why Joan should not continue to work, Tom said what had made the 'mark of Zorro' on his bedroom rug?

Answer: someone's pet

He also said that Nicholas stole his television set and Susan was 'health food-ing' him to death.

He then said that they had made the decision that Joan would stay home by having eight children.
2. Who did Joan blame for being laid off?

Answer: Tom

The newspaper hired Joan's boss. Joan believed that Tom saw the name in the applicants and hired him because Tom wasn't able to get Joan to quit her job. The newspaper hired Jason, Joan's boss, as a photo engraver. Hiring a photo engraver was one of the conditions of settling the strike. Tom claimed he had nothing to do with hiring at the newspaper, but even if he did, he had a duty to the paper to hire the best qualified people.

He also said Jason had a dopey last name.
3. Where did Nicholas hide in the house?

Answer: front closet

When Tom came home after having fought with Joan at the newspaper, Nicholas went into the front closet and told Tom and Joan not to tell Tommy where he was hiding.

After Joan and Tom made up, they discovered Nicholas hiding in the tent.

Tom and Joan eventually went out to the tent Nicholas and Julian had pitched in the backyard.
5. How do the kids hear about Tom and Joan making up?

Answer: radio

While lighting the lamp in the tent, Tom knocked over Nicholas's radio. Somehow, the transmit button was pressed and Tommy found the other radio in the screened porch. When he heard Tom talking with Joan, he called the other kids to listen in.
6. Where did Tom offer to set up the dark room equipment?

Answer: laundry room

Tom said there was plenty of room in the laundry room for the equipment. And if Joan worked form the house as a freelancer, she'd still be available at home.

Joan only appeared in one further episode, and the dark room had been built. In the 'Reunion' movie, Nicholas told the prospective buyers that the laundry room used to be a dark room.
7. Joan asked Tom for a loan for the dark room equipment. What were her terms?

Answer: 2 years at 8 percent

Joan's only condition about freelancing as a photographer was that she pay for the dark room equipment herself, so it really would be her business. Joan then asked Tom for a small business loan for 2 years at 8 percent. Tom told Joan that he would decide what form the interest would take.
8. What did Tom say Joan needed to stop people from coming into the dark room?

Answer: padlock

Everyone was interrupting Joan while she was telling Tom what she wanted for the darkroom. Joan then said she wanted a blinking light above the door. Tom replied that what she really needed was a padlock and a guard dog.

Joan agreed she needed a padlock, for sure. Then more kids interrupted and she added that she needed a guard dog as well.
9. What did Mary want to borrow from Joan?

Answer: nylons

Mary asked to borrow nylons - even just one leg. But Joan told Mary 'no more borrowing.'
10. How much did Nancy claim professional photos would cost?
