Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What part was Joanie auditioning for?

Answer: Titania

Joanie was auditioning for the part of Titania in "A Midsummer Night's Dream." She got the part - it was her first 'professional' role. The show would be performed on only one night - October 4th.
2. What did Mary try to teach Abby to make?

Answer: lasagna

Mary said that they used cottage cheese instead of ricotta because 'he' was on a diet. (He was implied to be Tom.) Mary told Abby that the sauce goes down first so the noodles wouldn't stick to the pan.
3. Abby seemed distracted while working with Mary. What was Abby's problem?

Answer: her father-in-law was coming to town

Abby confessed that Walter, her father-in-law (the father of Frank, her late husband) was coming to town and she still had not told him that she was getting married. Mary suggested that Abby tell him over dinner then bring him over to the house to meet the family.
4. Where did the director of Joanie's play get the idea to do a nude scene?

Answer: Joanie

Joanie had mentioned that she needed to show her naked soul (or something to that effect!) and the director got the idea to do the scene naked. It was only one scene in the third act...
5. Who got into a fight at school?

Answer: Tommy

A student at Tommy's school was teasing Tommy about going to see Joanie's play. The boy claimed he wouldn't need the magazine pin-up in his gym locker after he took photos of the nude scene during the play. Tommy ended up bearing the brunt of the fight - the other guy didn't look as bad as Tommy had.
6. What did the girls want for dinner when they claimed Tommy wasn't hungry?

Answer: Pizza

Tom gave the girls money for pizza and when he found out Tommy wasn't hungry, he knew something wasn't right. The girls claimed Tommy was upstairs as Tommy's hamster wasn't well. Tom went upstairs to check on Tommy and found him with a black eye and scratches on his face.
7. Who found the engagement ring for Tom?

Answer: David

David's coworker claimed his father's jewelry store was going out of business and he could get David jewelry very cheap. David told Tom that his coworker had a 1 carat engagement ring for $300. (Normally, it would be about $1500.) Tom had originally said he didn't have any money for an engagement ring, but when he heard the price of the one David could get, he jumped at the chance.
8. Why couldn't Tom make it to Joanie's play?

Answer: he had to go to dinner with Abby

Abby wasn't able to bring up the fact she was engaged when her father-in-law came to town the first time. He would be flying back from Portland for only one night - the same night of Joanie's play. Abby told Tom that Walter was a part of her family and it was important for them to meet.
9. How did Tom tell Joanie he felt when he saw the nude scene?

Answer: embarrassed

Tom did go to dinner with Abby to meet her father-in-law. Abby was trying to hurry to make it to dinner on time (Walter was very punctual), but Tom gave her the engagement ring before they left her apartment. The dinner seemed to be a bit strained. (Walter asked what Tom did in the war and Tom divulged he wrote for 'Stars and Stripes'... Walter didn't seem too happy about that.) When Walter noticed Tom wasn't quite paying attention to the conversation, Tom said that he was distracted as he was missing Joanie's play. Walter then suggested they all go to the play, even though they would only 'just' make the 3rd Act.

The trio arrived just in time to see the nude scene. Tom claimed that he was embarrassed - it wasn't just Joanie up there on stage, but her family as well. Tom claimed that people were staring.
10. What happened to the engagement ring Tom gave Abby?

Answer: It became police evidence

It turns out that David's coworker was selling stolen goods. The police came to the Bradford house and held Tom and Abby until the police got David's coworker to confess. Abby and Tom claimed they didn't look like jewelry thieves, but the police officer disagreed.

The police ended up taking the ring as evidence. Abby claimed she didn't need a ring. After the police left, Abby opened up to Tom about how she'd been feeling lately. She thought that being with Tom meant she wasn't really honoring her late husband's memory. Tom claimed that he thought Frank and Joan (Tom's late wife) would want the pair to be happy and maybe even Frank and Joan were up in heaven together, Frank doing the dishes... Abby claimed that would be impossible - Frank never did the dishes.
