Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why were Abby and Tom going away for the weekend?

Answer: Visit her parents

Abby's mother, Katherine, called asking Abby and Tom to come to Pasadena to see her exhibit of flowers at the Pasadena flower show. Tom didn't like the idea and came up with excuses not to go - but Abby had asked around before approaching Tom and found out he had no plans. Tom knew that Abby's father, Harry, would want to go play golf and Tom thought Harry was boring.
2. Who did Tom originally want to be in charge of the house while Abby and Tom were away?

Answer: David

Tom asked David if he could stay and keep an eye on the family. Tom even said David could stay in the master bedroom. David didn't like the idea, however. Both Abby and David had pointed out to Tom that there were 4 kids over 18 in the house, and the younger ones were self-sufficient. Tom didn't disagree they were self-sufficient, but worried about his children's discipline.

Tom also asked Dr. Maxwell to pop in on the house to see how things were going. Dr. Maxwell dropped by on Sunday morning (after the party). As Tom's rule was only family members were allowed in the house, Tommy was able to keep Dr. Maxwell from finding out the house was trashed by citing this rule. When Dr. Maxwell told Tommy that he was practically family, Tommy replied that Dr. Maxwell may be trying to trick Tommy by seeing if he'd follow the rules.
3. Who did Tom ultimately put in charge of the house while he and Abby were away?

Answer: Mary

He made Mary the 'Commandant' of the house and explained that if Mary had to leave for whatever reason, power would go to the next oldest, and so on and so forth.
4. Who did Nicholas bring into the house, against Tom's directions?

Answer: Irving

As soon as Tom and Abby left, Nicholas got on the phone to Irving and asked if Irving still wanted to run away. The next morning, Nicholas fills up a huge bowl of cereal for Irving, who was hungry because he ran away before dinner. Irving was upset because he got in trouble for putting gum in his sister's hair.

Nicholas and Irving set up a tent in the living room, but had to put it outside as the other kids were going to have a party.
5. What 'relative' of the Bradfords stayed with the family in this episode?

Answer: Marvin

Marvin, from Patagonia, showed up on the Bradfords' doorstep, backpack in hand. Apparently he'd gotten the Bradfords' address from a Christmas card and Marvin mentioned something about 'your father's brother Henry.' However, we know from other episodes that Tom doesn't have a brother, only Vivian (his sister). Perhaps this Henry is actually the brother of Tom's father?

Marvin was en route to San Francisco, to join the hippies. He was a little upset when Mary told him the hippies disbanded about five years prior.

While at the party, Marvin came to realise that he wasn't really ready for the world outside Patagonia and decided to go back home, where the real fun was watching the gas station move cars on a Friday night.
6. Who did not invite someone over to the house?

Answer: Susan

Susan spent much of the episode sitting cross-legged on the floor while meditating. (She was shaken out of her meditation and ultimately joined the party.) Nancy and Joanie invited a few friends over to have some adult conversation and drinks. Tommy and Elizabeth decided to have a party and even hired a band.
7. Who ultimately ended up 'in charge' of the Bradford house, after Mary made the split pea soup?

Answer: Nicholas

Mary heard about everyone's plans to bring people to the house - which went against Tom's rule about no non-family allowed in the house. (Marvin was family, and thus it was ok to bend the rule for him.) When Mary protested, Tommy claimed the rest of the kids were going to just ignore her. Tommy also said that Tom would never believe Mary if she said what happened because everyone else would say nothing went on. Mary decided to leave the house and went over to David's, handing power over to Joanie. Joanie then gave the power to Nancy (Susan was meditating) and so on and so forth until Nicholas ended up in charge.

As he was in charge, he decided to bring Irving into the house.
8. Who got drunk in this episode?

Answer: Elizabeth

Elizabeth's date, Frank, wad been dishonorably discharged form the Navy. He brought some liquor to the party and was giving it to Elizabeth, saying it tasted like cherries. Tommy, who had his own date at the party, saw what was going on with Elizabeth and intervened. Frank decided Elizabeth wasn't worth fighting for and left. Tommy then carried Elizabeth to her room. (Frank and convinced Elizabeth to go into Mary's room, despite there being a rule about no boys being upstairs.)

Tommy's date ditched him when she found out he was only 15. (She didn't date guys younger than 17.) Tommy said she should go catch up to Frank - he was more her style. (She kept trying to get Tommy to go somewhere more private.)
9. Just as Tom and Abby are arriving home, where do the kids find one last party guest?

Answer: master bathroom's bathtub

One of Joanie's guests was in the bathtub. Joanie claimed he was more interesting when he was asleep. The kids got the last guest out of the house just in time for Tom and Abby to come through the door.
10. Which was not a question that Tom asked after all the kids had gone to bed?

Answer: Why Elizabeth had a mark on her neck

Abby's answers were that the kids were probably tired and that's why they were in bed by 10, the kids cleaned up as a surprise for Tom and Abby, and she had no answer for how dip ended up on the dining room chandelier.

Tom and Abby had found the brownies (made with pot) in a drawer of the hutch and the last show of the episode is them about to bite into a brownie.
