Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode opens with Captain Sheridan's personal log. During this log he says that "we won". To what is he referring?

Answer: The Shadow War

This is the first episode following the end of the major story arc involving the Shadows and the Vorlons. Since that story was wrapped up in the previous episode this one opens with celebrations and a feeling of victory summed up by the Captain's personal log.

"Captain's personal log: the Shadow War is over. We won. But I can't stop thinking about what it cost us and how much work is still ahead of us. Then again, maybe the doc's right. Embrace the moment. In the end, it's all we have. Trouble will come, in its own time, it always does. But that's tomorrow. Give me today and I will be happy."
2. The action cuts to Earth where a highly-ranked member of Psi Corps is telling someone about President Clark's plans to launch a four pronged attack designed to shut Babylon Five down. Who is he bringing up to speed on those plans?

Answer: Mr. Bester

"The president wants Babylon Five shut down permanently".

Of course he is telling Bester, the Psi Cop, who is a general thorn in the side to Sheridan. Talia Winters is dead by this point in the series and the other two characters feature in this episode but are on the station not having a briefing on Earth.

Bester is brilliantly portrayed by Walter Koenig of "Star Trek" fame. This episode marks his fifth appearance as Bester.
3. On Centauri Prime, Londo tells Minister Virini that instead of choosing a new Emperor right away, the Centarum will deliberate for longer and appoint the Minister to the ceremonial position of Regent. What does the newly appointed and incredibly eccentric Regent NOT say during this scene?

Answer: "I'm not the right choice Mollari!"

Minister Virini is delightfully played by Damian London. He is more than satisfied at his appointment to the position of Regent.

Londo wants to return to Babylon 5 as soon as possible to postpone his inevitable rise to the position of Emperor. To accomplish this he delightedly hands over the reigns to the hapless Virini, at least for a while anyway.
4. Doctor Franklin examines G'Kar to give him some advice on getting a prosthetic. What body part is G'Kar now missing since his torture at the hands of Emperor Cartagia?

Answer: Left eye

G'Kar had his eye gouged out by Emperor Cartagia during the course of his imprisonment and torture. At this point he is wearing an eye patch but Doctor Franklin is confident that he can provide him with an artificial eye.

During this scene, Franklin asks G'Kar why he did not take on the leadership of his people when it was offered him. He replies, "I have seen what power does and I have seen what power costs. The one is never equal to the other."
5. Mr. Garibaldi decides to resign as Chief of Security effective immediately. Captain Sheridan accepts his resignation since they've seceded from Earth and Garibaldi's Earthforce contract no longer applies.

Answer: True

Garibaldi has received an unusual transmission from an unknown source. This message is simply a swirling pattern on the screen that lasts for a few seconds. Garibaldi deletes the message and goes about his business, which of course is to resign.

He resigns at the start of a meeting of the senior staff. Sheridan, Ivanova and Franklin all try to talk him out of it but there's nothing they can do or say. He wants to go independent and start his own company in private investigations and security.
6. Much to Zack Allen's chagrin, both Londo and Bester arrive at the docking bay while he is inducting some new security officers. He then gets a call ordering him to see the captain. He leaves quickly telling the new recruits that he wants to get out of there before the second coming. What walks into the docking bay area just after he leaves?

Answer: Three Elvis impersonators

And you thought "Babylon 5" didn't do comedy?

Yes, three people dressed as Elvis Presley walk into the docking bay after Zack leaves. That would have sent him over the edge after having to deal with both Londo and Bester, both of whom sparred verbally with him as they passed through.

Londo actually threatened Zack's life in the form of a joke, saying that the Emperor said Londo could only leave Centauri Prime over his dead body and that Zack had said he could only return to the station over his dead body but there are only so many requests he can grant!

Bester then finishes Zack's sentence on arrival and asks if his usual quarters in the brig are available.
7. Bester wants to set up a meeting with the command staff so Sheridan invites Lyta along. Why does he want her there?

Answer: To make sure Bester isn't scanning any of them

Lyta is not thrilled about being ordered around by Sheridan again but she does as she is asked anyway.

Bester laughs about the inclusion of Lyta in the meeting saying that Sheridan is embarrassing her since she is not a strong enough telepath to stop him anyway: she is p5 and he is p12. Despite this disadvantage Lyta does indeed block Bester quite easily and he suspects that the Vorlons augmented her telepathic abilities when they altered her.

"Ms. Alexander has no business being here. She's a blip! By all rights, I should arrest her and take her back with me."
8. Mr. Bester wants Sheridan to take him to Z'ha'dum to see if there is any Shadow technology leftover since they've gone beyond the rim now. In return, he gives them details of a plan by the President to discredit Babylon 5. What do they find when they get to Z'ha'dum?

Answer: An evacuation in progress and the planet explodes

Bester is distraught because soon after arriving they see the Shadows' servants evacuating the planet in droves and going to hyperspace.

Bester wanted to get hold of the technology in case it could help in the removal of the control devices that were implanted in his lover.
9. On board the White Star, Bester tries to persuade Lyta to rejoin Psi Corps. During this conversation, he repeats the Psi Corps mantra of, "Corps is mother, Corps is father". What is Lyta's witty response to that?

Answer: "In that case Mr. Bester, I'm an orphan"

He tries everything he can think of to manipulate Lyta but it backfires in the end when he attempts to blackmail her. He says that he knows things about her that she would want nobody else to know. That is when she loses it and gets even with him.

It is actually Sheridan who tells Bester at their meeting earlier on in the episode that he would like to nail his head to the table and set fire to it. Charming!
10. Sheridan calls on Lyta at her quarters and is furious with her. He dresses her down for her actions on board the White Star. What does he suspect that she did?

Answer: Sent a telepathic signal ahead to warn the Shadow servants

Even though Lyta is effectively a free agent and not under his command, Sheridan still chews her out over her actions.

She wanted to make Bester pay for his past so she sent the telepathic signal to Z'ha'dum knowing that the technology there would detect such a signal and warn the Shadows' allies that they were coming. This gave them time to evacuate and destroy the planet.

Sheridan, "I was just thinking about those ships we saw leaving Z'ha'dum. Delenn called them the allies of the Shadows, dark servants. We don't know what they took when they left, where they're going or what they plan to do."

This sets into motion a chain of events that shape the remainder of the series.
