Val is running along the beach when she spots Eric who comes out of the water to talk to her. He offers to teach Val how to swim after she says she doesn't know how. They see a boat offshore which turns out to be oil people.

J.R. hears that Gary is involved in the offshore drilling protest which could cost J.R. and Petrolux lots of money if they are delayed. He comes to Knots Landing to talk some sense into Gary and threaten him a little.

Karen and Val are standing outside talking when J.R. arrives. Later, when J.R. is leaving Gary and Val's, he sees Karen watering her flowers wearing shorts and a halter top and goes to talk to her. He asks Karen if she'd show him around, but she tells J.R. to buzz off.

Answer: she knows Chip and Richard wants the Petrolux account

Chip Todson works for Petrolux, and J.R. He runs into Laura and Richard at the community meeting regarding the drilling project. Chip and Laura were lovers when they were camp counselors together. Richard probably doesn't know about Laura and Chip being lovers, but he knows that Laura and Chip know each other.

Richard is an attorney, but his firm only has him doing menial tasks. He thinks that because Laura knows Chip, he can acquire the Petrolux account. Laura misinterprets what Richard is asking her to do. When she sees Chip, he agrees to throw some business Richard's way, but makes it clear what he requires in return.

Since Karen knew J.R. was attracted to her, she offers to have a lunch date with him while Gary goes to the offices. Karen says she always wanted to play Mata Hari. After they lunch in J.R.'s suite, we see Karen doing her best seductress imitation. J.R. is about to move in when Gary calls for Karen to let her know he's finished at the Petrolux offices. J.R. realizes he's been had when Karen turns back into Mrs. Busy Housewife and says she's got to go, lots of errands to run, kids to pick up, etc.

Answer: there is an alternate drilling site onshore

At the first community meeting, Karen was asking Chip Todson questions about noise and air pollution, oil mist and environment damage, but when Gary asked about alternate drilling sites, he struck a nerve. Gary realizes getting into the Petrolux offices is the only way to find out the truth.

Answer: tell Lucy that Gary and Val have remarried

Gary and Val haven't told Lucy that they've remarried because they want to be sure about the success of the marriage before bringing Lucy to live with them in Knots Landing. J.R. figures they won't want Lucy to be hurt so this will make them stop. At the beach protest later, Val hands J.R. a small purse.

She tells him that there is change in it for the phone call to Lucy. Val tells him to go ahead and call, Lucy will be hurt, but she'll get over it and Gary and Val were going to tell her soon anyway.

Answer: Kenny and Ginger

The community has come out to protest the offshore drilling project of Petrolux, who J.R. is in cahoots with. When Richard sees J.R., he tells Laura to talk to Chip so he can talk to J.R. alone. Richard lets J.R. know that he doesn't agree with his neighbors about protesting the drilling project. Meanwhile, Laura and Chip exchange harsh words and Richard comes over to see what's going on. Richard tells Laura that he wanted her to ask Chip to help him, but never wanted her to humiliate herself. Laura realizes that she had misunderstood about Richard wanting her to sleep with Chip, and keeps quiet about it. Kenny and Ginger don't appear in this episode.

After Gary tells J.R. he knows about the alternate drilling site onshore and will be announcing it, J.R. pre-empts him and makes an announcement to the crowd blaming Chip Todson for not telling him about the alternate drilling site. Naturally he points out how many millions of dollars more it will cost for the onshore drilling site, but they will do the right thing.
