Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Valar Dohaeris" - Who made a plan with Littlefinger (Petyr) to escape King's Landing in the season three premier?

Answer: Sansa

Sansa and Shae were playing a game by the Blackwater. They'd watch ships leave and make up vivid stories about the reason(s) behind their departure. Shae wasn't really in the mood to play. Littlefinger showed up, and he and Sansa discussed her leaving. There was no reason to stay now that Joffrey was to marry Margaery Tyrell, King Renly's widow. The plan was for Sansa to leave with Littlefinger by ship, but she had to be ready at any moment. She said she would be. Meanwhile, Roz told Shae to be wary of Petyr with Sansa. Roz would later be killed by Joffrey.

Also in this season premier episode, Jon Snow met the "king beyond the wall"; Tyrion asked his father for his rightful inheritance of Casterly Rock; Margaery began relating to the local orphans; Robb arrived at the ruins of Winterfell, and Daenerys arrived in Astapor to buy an army.
2. "Dark Wings, Dark Words" - Before she could make it to Riverrun, Arya and her friends met up with a group of men that eventually led to her true identity being exposed. What did the men call themselves?

Answer: Brotherhood Without Banners

Arya, Gendry (actor Joe Dempsie) and Hot Pie (actor Ben Hawkey) were trying to make it to Arya's grandfather at Riverrun. Little did Arya know, but her mother and brother were already there, and her grandfather had been killed. The group of men took the trio back to their camp and fed them. Arya and her pals would have made it out of there mostly unnoticed, except for the Brotherhood captured The Hound and he recognized Arya.

Also in this episode, Theon Greyjoy was tortured for by unknown captors (they turned out to work for the bastard son of Roose Bolton); Bran dreamed of and then met Jojen Reed; Jon Snow saw his first giant and Lady Stark admitted to Robb's wife she'd once wished for the death of Jon Snow. Bran is played by Isaac Hempstead Wright.
3. "Walk of Punishment" - Which character had his/her hand chopped off by Locke, after an unintentional show of arrogance?

Answer: Jaime Lannister

Jaime thought he'd convinced his captor, Locke, to treat him better in the possible exchange of monies with his father Tywin. Unfortunately for Jaime, all he did was show a level of arrogance to the man that made him mad. He paid for his arrogance with his right hand. His sword hand. But, he did save Brienne from being raped and killed beforehand.

Also in this episode, Tywin relieved Petyr (Littlefinger) of his role as the man in charge of coin and gave that job to his youngest child, Tyrion; Theon was released from his torture momentarily; Daenerys tried to work out a deal to purchase all 8,000 Unsullied from Kraznys, and Catelyn's father, Lord Hoster Tully, was given a burial by boat.
4. "And Now His Watch Has Ended" - Who said this: "Will you fight for me as free men?"

Answer: Daenerys

She said this to the enormous Unsullied army she'd just bought with one of her dragons. She'd tricked Kraznys, the man who ruled Astapor, into "selling" her his entire army for the price of one dragon. After she held the power, she set the army against its captors. The masters of Astapor were killed, and Daenerys set the army free. She then asked them if they'd fight for her as free men, and they affirmed that they would. The army followed her and the dragons out of the city onward. Dan Hildebrand played Kraznys.

Also in this episode, the Brotherhood Without Banners sentenced The Hound to combat; Margaery Tyrell enticed Sansa with the possibility of a marriage to her brother Loras, and Brienne convinced Jaime not to give up on life just because he'd run into real world hardship with the loss of his hand.
5. "Kissed By Fire" - Amidst near defeat, half his army lost, Robb Stark decided to conquer which significant location in Westeros?

Answer: Casterly Rock

Robb lost half of his army after he beheaded Rickard Karstark. Karstark led a group of men to assassinate the two Lannister children Robb was holding hostage. Robb consider that murder, and as a result, treason as well. Unfortunately, Robb's show of strength was too late. He'd broken his vow when he married Talisa instead of Walder Frey's daughter, and killing Karstark sent the man's supporters away. Robb had no other location in which to try to gain a victory but the narrowly defended Casterly Rock, home of the Lannisters. This siege was never to take place. John Stahl played Rickard Karstark.

Also in the episode, Jon Snow broke his sacred vow to the Knight's Watch when he made love with Ygritte; Jaime Lannister revealed to Brienne the truth about the events surrounding his slaying of the Mad King; Arya watched as the Brotherhood allowed The Hound to leave imprisonment, and the audience met both Stannis' wife and daughter and witnessed his three infant sons floating in nearby tanks.
6. "The Climb" - Did Jon and Ygritte make it to the top of the ice wall?

Answer: Yes

Before the climb, Ygritte made Jon swear to never betray her. It took him a few heartbeats before he answered, as she was just one step in a bigger plan between Jon and the now dead Halfhand. He truly cared for her, though, and did not want to have to betray her. They eventually made it to the top, but not before a near fatal fall.

Also in this episode, Tyrion had to deliver the news to Sansa that she would be his bride, while Loras would wed Cersei; Melisandre (the witch) arrived in the Riverlands and purchased Gendry, the bastard son of Robert Baratheon, from the Brotherhood Without Banners; meanwhile, poor Theon Greyjoy was being endlessly tortured for reasons unknown by Ramsay Snow. He seemed to have guessed the who, where and why of it, only to have the man say that he was actually lying. Theon had not guessed correctly, but we found that out near the end of the season.
7. "The Bear and the Maiden Fair" - After being sent home by Roose Bolton, why did Jaime return to Harrenhal?

Answer: To save Brienne

Jaime and Brienne had become quite close during their time together. Bolton was sending Jaime back to his father, but said that Brienne was to stay as a gift to Locke. When Jaime learned she'd most likely be dead by the night's end, he returned to Harrenhal to save her. She was in a small arena fighting an enormous bear with only a wooden sword. Jaime leaped down to protect her, and helped her climb from the arena. She, in turn, did the same for him by pulling him up to safety.

Also in this episode, Robb's wife told him she was pregnant; Arya ran away from the Brotherhood in anger and encountered The Hound; Gendry found out from Melisandra that Robert Baratheon was his father, and Daenerys informed Razdal mo Eraz she would "gift" him his own life if he freed the slaves of Yunkai. He declined. George Georgiou played Eraz and Noah Taylor played Locke.
8. "Second Sons" - On their wedding night, did Tyrion and Sansa consummate their marriage?

Answer: No

Much to Shae's relief the next morning, Tyrion did not require his young bride to have sex with him. Tyrion had appeared to care for Sansa as a young girl, and probably did find her sexually attractive, but he knew she was too young for him at fourteen. He told her that he would not consummate the marriage until she was ready. She asked what would happen if she was never ready. After the wedding, Joffrey made a threat to Sansa that he would come and rape her at some point, as it did not matter which Lannister impregnated her.

Also in this episode, Stannis released an imprisoned Davos; Arya found out that The Hound planned to return her to her mother and brother who were at The Twins; Daario Naharis pledged his allegiance, life and heart to Daenerys, and Samwell Tarly killed a White Walker with the dagger made of dragonglass. Ed Skrein played Daario.
9. "The Rains of Castamere" - After the wedding of Robb's uncle, Edmure Tully, to Walder Frey's daughter Roslin, there was a massacre. Who was NOT dead at the end of this episode?

Answer: Arya Stark

Edmure (actor Tobias Menzies) agreed to marry one of Walder's daughters, as Robb had forsaken his promise to do so by marrying Talisa. They needed Frey's army to help gain a victory at Casterly Rock. After the ceremony was over, Walder unleashed a massacre upon the Stark army. Lord Bolton killed Robb, one of Frey's men killed Talisa, and I am unsure who killed Catelyn. Catelyn herself killed Walder Frey's young wife. Arya had almost made it back to her family, and was inside the walls of The Twins, but it was too late. The Hound knocked her out and took her away to save her life. David Bradley played Walder. He is also popularly known for playing the Squib, Argus Filch, in the "Harry Potter" movies series.

Also in this episode, Bran realized he could enter the mind of a person and planned to go forward with his trip north of the Wall. He sent Osha onward with Rickon; Daario and Jorah made it possible for the Unsullied to take over Yunkai, leaving Daenerys in control of the city; Jon was forced to kill some of his Wildling companions and abandon Ygritte. Natalie Tena played Osha. She played Tonks in several "Harry Potter" films as well.
10. "Mhysa" - The title of this season three finale meant what in the Ghiscari language?

Answer: Mother

After her victory at Yunkai, Daenerys was greeted by its former slaves. She told them that their freedom was their own to take, and not hers to give. They began holding up their hands and chanting "mhysa". Missandei explained that in their language it meant "mother". Nathalie Emmanuel played Missandei.

Also in this episode, Theon's sister decided she'd go to Ramsay Snow and free her brother; Ygritte caught up with Jon and put three arrows into him. He rode off and ended back at Castle Black in bad shape; Gilly named her baby Sam after her hero, Samwell Tarly; Davos rescued Gendry before Stannis could sacrifice him, and Arya killed her first man, and immediately called out for her friend from Braavos with the words "valar morghulis".
