Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which fact isn't true about the 1st season of the show?

Answer: There was a US team

The original version of the show featured 2 British teams ('Team Yellow' vs 'Team Orange') in every episode. It wasn't until year 2 that the elimination competition involving multiple teams was started.
2. Who won the 'Amphibious Vehicle' challenge in season 2?

Answer: The Bodgers

The Bodgers, a team of bikers, unexpectedly won the challenge over The Navy Blues, a team of Navy engineers. Their car that could float won out over the navy boat that didn't drive very well.
3. Which host joined the show in Season 3?

Answer: Cathy Rogers

She was already involved with the show as a producer when it was decided that they needed a female host. Cathy got volunteered.
4. Season 3 included a US team in the competition. The team of Massachusetts engineers had a particularly long name that was shortened up using the initials of the words. What did the initials read?

Answer: The N.E.R.D.S.

The New England Rubbish Deconstruction Society made it all the way to the finals before losing.
5. When the British teams from Seasons 2 and 3 completed against each other, they had to build a car normally associated with the US. What kind of vehicle did they build?

Answer: Hot Rod

The Megalomaniacs beat the Brother in Arms.
6. During Season 4, one of the challenges was to build a manually operated machine to chunk produce at a target. What type of produce was it?

Answer: Pumpkins

The winners built a catapult out of scrap metal to chunk their pumpkins. The runner up team built a compressed air cannon where locked in place bicycles were pedaled to build up the air pressure.
7. Which of the following was not used as a challenge in 'Junkyard Wars' during the first 6 seasons?

Answer: Electric Car

They haven't had to build an electric car yet, but had to build a Steam Powered car for a challenge in Season 3.
8. A challenge using teams from the US, England, and Russia was held between seasons 5 and 6. They had to build a hybrid vehicle that could complete a speed run, a hill climb, and be amphibious for a race in a lake. The Winning US team was called the American ______?

Answer: Raptors

In real life, the team members work at Lockheed on the F-22 Raptor, so the name choice was logical. The British were the Bulldogs, and the Russians were known as the Bears.
9. What winter themed challenge was included in Season 6?

Answer: Snowmobiles

The Snowmobile challenge was the 1st one done on ice or snow, but I bet it isn't the last one.
10. The people who came up with the concept of 'Junkyard Wars' were inspired by what movie?

Answer: 'Apollo 13'

The movie showed a real event from the flight. To keep the crew alive, a square shaped air filter had to fit in a round air filter hole because the Command module and Lunar Module used different designs. The improvised result was odd looking, but worked.

The idea of improvising machines out of junk (called bodging on the show), came from people who saw the movie, were impressed by the imagination needed to solve the problem, and built a TV show around building things from junk.
