Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The team's client, Joey Cospito, worked part-time as an armored car driver in order to financially make ends meet for himself and his family. He was shot in the shoulder during the heist and was later seen as a key suspect in the theft. These suspicions resulted in him being suspended from his full- time job. What was Joey's full-time job?

Answer: police officer

Joey told Nate that he would be suspended from the police force until he was cleared in the investigation and had a healed shoulder. While armored car drivers were told to stay with the vehicle if a theft occurred, Joey explained that he was shot because he responded to the theft as a police officer would, by pursuing the suspects and trying to stop the crime.
2. The team's plan was to convince Kerrity to bring the stolen diamonds to a public location so that they could arrange for the state police to bust him for the theft and insurance fraud. The state police detective that was an integral part of their plan had actually showed up in "The Beantown Bailout Job" episode and the team was very familiar with him. What was the name of this lieutenant?

Answer: Bonanno

Lieutenant Bonanno first appeared in the season's first episode as a peripheral character that ended up being a very helpful and crucial part of their con. Unlike the repeated appearances of FBI agents Taggert and McSweeten, Lieutenant Bonanno tends to show up only in the final moments when the team would like the long arm of the law to further punish their target.
3. The reason Jim Kerrity couldn't fence his diamonds on the black market was because each diamond had its own I.D. number laser inscribed on the side. Parker explained that the only it could be removed was with a special laser only available in three different international locations. Which of the following was NOT one of the laser removal sites?

Answer: Perth, Australia

Parker knew diamonds and she was more than willing to share information on her successful previous diamond heists. The most important part of this con was to convince Kerrity that the team had the only special laser in the western hemisphere. The idea was that Kerrity would bring them the diamonds to have the I.D. numbers "removed" and they would set him up to be arrested by the police while in possession of the stolen merchandise.
4. Parker was terrified about playing the role of the roper, specifically since her previous roper interactions with men have all ended in violent acts that injured her targets. Sophie told her that, in order to easily get Kerrity's attention, she should use the famous diamond she had stolen in Perth, Australia. What was the feminine name of this gigantic Australian pink diamond?

Answer: Rosalind

Sophie told her that using the Rosalind diamond would allow her to "say nothing and trust the diamond" in order to get and keep Jim Kerrity's attention. Parker was then able to lead Kerrity to Hardison and the execution of their plan began.
5. In order to get Jim Kerrity to fall for their plan, the team needed to convince him that working with the Ice Man was his only option; it was also crucial that he be convinced that any insurance pay-out for the stolen diamonds would not be arriving anytime in the near future. Nate played the role of Jim Kerrity's insurance agent and paid him some visits in an effort to push him towards the the Ice Man. What name did Nate assume when he played Kerrity's insurance agent?

Answer: Mr. Sterling

Nate's role as a smarmy and irritating insurance agent was played extremely well, and it was an added humorous bonus for fans of the show when he chose to use Sterling's name. Sterling was a key figure in several of the first season's episodes; he messed up several of their cons and had tried to put the entire team into prisons before Nate was able to finally out-con him in the final episode of season one.
6. During the preliminary meeting in Nate's apartment, Parker was very useful in providing information about how to steal and fence diamonds. When she spoke of her qualifications she provided an abridged list of her major successful diamond heists. Which of the following was NOT one of the heists she mentioned?

Answer: Schiphol heist

While Parker mentioned executing several heists, she did not mention Schiphol Airport, even though it actually occurred in February, 2005, when thieves stole a truckload of uncut diamonds totaling over $118 million. The Damiani raid occurred in February, 2008, when $20 million in diamonds was stolen from the Damiani showroom in Milan. Also, during the episode, Hardison got carried away with his character and told Kerrity that he had pulled off all of the heists that were actually committed by Parker, and this was cause for considerable tension between her and Hardison throughout the episode.
7. When Hardison was nabbed by Kerrity's goons he called Sophie to ask for her help on how to get out of the situation safely. Sophie quickly realized Hardison had oversold his character and fallen into the plot of the evil henchman, but she also said that he could probably get out of it, as long as the goons were not of what nationality?

Answer: Russian

Sophie told Hardison that there was no way he could talk his way out of the Russians' plan and she advised him to not tell them that he had any other skills, probably because she knew that the Russians would exploit all of his talents if they could. Once she realized he was dealing with Russian goons she knew that she had to involve Nate; Sophie contacted him via the telephone and then he patched into Hardison's earbud so they could try to workout a plan.
8. The team had to figure out how Hardison would be able to steal the diamonds out of the vault so they needed additional information about the vault and the security measures. Nate again posed as Kerrity's insurance rep to gain access to information about the security features. Which of the following was NOT one of the vault's anti-theft mechanisms?

Answer: rotating encryption system and retinal scanning

Kerrity's vault was quite impressive, but once they were able to gather information on all of the installed security, Parker was able to figure out a way to defeat each of the features. In addition, while the vault was designed to keep Kerrity's assets and secrets secure and private, the team was able to concoct a plan that used his vault as the mechanism for his capture and arrest.
9. Everyone on the team was very leery of Hardison playing the role of the grifter in this con, mostly because he tended to be overindulgent and careless when in character on jobs. While the team all agreed that his chosen impromptu name of "Ice Man" was quite atrocious, what other element of his grifter persona was noted as being extremely irritating, especially by Eliot?

Answer: his fake accent

Parker was irritated with Hardison when he told Kerrity that he had accomplished the many elaborate diamond heists that were really all Parker's doing. Hardison did tell the group that he had bought new clothes and he also showed up at the laser facility in a new purchased Ferrari.

However, throughout the episode, Hardison's accent was absolutely awful and Eliot took every opportunity to tell him just how terrible it sounded.
10. Nate tried to keep Kerrity in his office and away from the security footage of Hardison and the goons breaking into the vault; he eventually noticed the situation and headed to the vault to intervene. Nate gave the team warning and by the time Kerrity and the head goon confronted one another in the vault, Hardison and Parker were no longer visible. How did they manage to escape?

Answer: blew through a deposit box's floor with detonating cord

The explosion allowed them to escape and created a security threat that triggered the vault's fog, lock-down, and other security features, as well as contacting the police. Lieutenant Bonanno arrived shortly thereafter and found the stolen diamonds in Kerrity's vault, still in the bags bearing the name of the armored car company. Kerrity and his goons were immediately arrested while Parker, Eliot, and Hardison escaped through the underground tunnels.
