Although Sawyer was born in Alabama, he apparently lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, in his youth. Kate discovers this fact, when she reads the letter that Sawyer had written to the confidence man that destroyed his family. Kate reads the letter and notices the postmark saying, "Then I looked at the envelope .. America's bicentennial, Knoxville, TN. You were just a kid, 8, maybe 9 years old."

Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) is from Namhae, a very small province on the southern coast of South Korea. Sun (Yunjin Kim) is well-educated and comes from a wealthy family in Seoul. Jin and Sun met near the Seoul Gateway Hotel, during a chance encounter and later married.

Desmond is from Scotland. He worked as a set designer before joining the Royal Scots Regiment. Charlotte was educated in England, earning a Ph.D from Oxford. It's been suggested, however, that Charlotte may have, in fact, been born on the island. In the episode, "There's No Place Like Home, Parts 2&3," Miles says that he is surprised to hear that Charlotte wants to leave the island. Charlotte is puzzled, and Miles says, "It's just weird. You know, after all that time you spent trying to get back here." Charlie and Naomi are from Manchester, England. Finally, Jack is from Los Angeles, California.

Sayid is from Tikrit, Iraq. In the pilot episode, Sayid tells Hurley that he served in the Iraqi Republican Guard. Sayid proves to be invaluable as a font of strength and courage during their struggle to survive on the island.

Oceanic Airlines Flight 815, a Boeing 777 aircraft, took off from Sydney, in September, 2004. Quite a few episodes include scenes taking place in Sydney. Jack's father, Christian Shephard, died in Sydney. The characters were in Sydney for a variety of reasons, before boarding the ill-fated Flight 815. Claire is the only main survivor born in Australia.

Shannon Rutherford, who was fatally shot by Ana Lucia, lived in France, for some time. Shannon was able to speak and understand a little French. She helped interpret the repeating distress signal that had been recorded by Danielle. Later, Shannon tries to assist Sayid with the interpretation of Danielle's map. Sayid asks her, where she learned to speak French. Shannon says that, "I knew this guy." Sayid is curious. Shannon continues, "In France, in Saint Tropez. I kind of lived there for awhile." Sayid says, "Well, they say that is the best way to learn a foreign language."

Frank is in the Bahamas when the broadcast airs. He is disturbed, because he knows the image of the Flight 815 pilot, Captain Seth Norris, is not genuine. Frank calls the NTSB hotline shown on the screen and says, "You're showing footage of Seth Norris and that's not him, listen, this guy married his high school sweetheart at nineteen, he always wore his wedding ring and I'm telling you there's no ring on that body." Frank goes on to tell the operator that he, in fact, was scheduled to be the pilot for that flight.

Charlotte is in Medenine, Tunisia, on an expedition. She bribes a local official to allow her to enter an excavation site. She uncovers some skeletal remains, and the woman accompanying Charlotte asks if it is a dinosaur. Charlotte replies, "Not by a few million years. It's an Ursus maritimus." Charlotte also discovers a collar with the DHARMA Hydra station symbol.

Answer: Ukraine

Mikhail Bakunin was the sole occupant of the DHARMA Flame station. He says that he is from Kiev, Ukraine. In the episode, "Enter 77," Mikhail tells Sayid, "I grew up in Kiev and joined the Soviet Army. I was stationed at a listening post at Vladivostok.

After the Cold War, after we lost the Cold War, my unit was decommissioned. I was dismissed from my life in the military. And after years of conducting unpleasant actions against our enemies, I found myself wanting to do something good. So I replied to a newspaper advertisement." This led to Mikhail's management of the communications station.

Answer: Tallahassee

The capital of Florida, Tallahassee, is part of the title: "The Man from Tallahassee." It also happened to be Kate's destination, before she was arrested. In a lighter moment, while Jack and Sawyer are playing cards, Sawyer expresses his indignation, when Jack implies that Sawyer doesn't know what Amoxicillin is. Sawyer says, "You may have been to Phuket, Doc, but I've been to Tallahassee. Let's just say something was burning and it wasn't from the sunshine." Finally, "The Man from Tallahassee," refers to John Locke's father, Anthony Cooper.
