Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the freighter?

Answer: Kahana

The name of the freighter is the Kahana. The Kahana was originally believed to be Penny Widmore's rescue boat, but as it turns out, Penny's father, Charles Widmore has commissioned the freighter, to find the island, apprehend Ben and massacre the remaining inhabitants.
2. This character was carefully chosen by Matthew Abaddon to be part of the science team. He/she keeps a detailed journal and is a physicist. He/she always wears a necktie on the beach. Who is it?

Answer: Daniel Faraday

Dan Faraday, interestingly enough, is never seen without his necktie. As a physicist, he is in tune with many of the peculiarities of the island. Jack asks Frank about Dan. "What's his story?" Frank replies, "Couldn't tell ya. Half the stuff he says goes way over my head, the other half goes way, way over." As of the fourth season, Dan's whereabouts are unknown.
3. This character is a member of the science team. He/she is a cultural anthropologist. Which character is it?

Answer: Charlotte Lewis

In the episode, "Confirmed Dead," Ben says this about Charlotte, "Her name is Charlotte Lewis! Charlotte Staples Lewis. Born July second, nineteen seventy-nine, Essex, England. Parents, David and Jeanette. Eldest of three, all girls. She was raised in Bromsgrove. Did her undergraduate studies at Kent. Took her Ph.D in Cultural Anthropology at Oxford." Charlotte accompanied Dan during their mission to deactivate the poison gas facility at the Tempest station.

She remains on the island as of season four.
4. This character appears to have genuine extrasensory abilities. He/she is the paranormal specialist of the science team. What's his/her name?

Answer: Miles Straume

Miles Straume (Ken Leung) possesses an ability to perceive information from the afterlife. He can be somewhat sarcastic, and not unlike Sawyer, is quick to give someone a humorous nickname. In the episode, "Confirmed Dead," Sayid asks Miles what he does for a living. Miles says, "I collect soil samples." Sayid is also curious as to why Miles doesn't seem surprised to see that there are survivors. Miles, in a mocking manner, says, "Oh my God, you guys were on Oceanic Flight 815. Wow! That better?" Dan tries to persuade Miles to leave the island, but Miles says, "Well, don't worry about me, 'cause I'm gonna stay."
5. Who is the skeptical helicopter pilot for the freighter's science and mercenary teams?

Answer: Frank

Frank Lapidus (Jeff Fahey) is the helicopter pilot for both of the freighter teams. He was replaced as the pilot for the Oceanic 815 flight, by Seth Norris, for undisclosed reasons. During Abaddon's recruitment interview, Naomi said that Frank is "a drunk." After the rescue, Jack tells Frank, "Well, it's been a pleasure, Frank. I hope we never see each other again." Frank replies, "Roger that, Doc."
6. Who is the freighter's physician?

Answer: Ray

Ray is the ship's doctor. He is played by Marc Vann. Ray meets an untimely demise, at the hands of Keamy. It also provides an illustration of the curious time anomaly emanating from the island. Omar tells Ray, "Hey, doc. Wanna hear something weird?" Ray says, "Ah, sure." Omar continues, "You know that Morse code message that I got from the beach? It said that the doctor washed up on the shore with his throat slit." Ray protests by indicating that he is the doctor. Omar says, "Crazy, right?"
7. Who is the ruthless leader of the mercenary team?

Answer: Keamy

Martin Christopher Keamy (Kevin Durand) is the quintessential "bad guy." In an interview, Kevin Durand says, "How could you not enjoy the character of Keamy?" When Michael meets Keamy on the freighter, Keamy is honing his shooting skills. Michael, somewhat aghast, asks, "What are you guys doing?" Keamy, disdainfully replies, "What's it look like we're doing? We're shooting things. Pull!" Keamy is responsible for the deaths of Ben's daughter, the ship's Captain, the ship's doctor, and many others.

He is also to blame for the destruction of the Kahana.
8. Who is the Captain of the freighter?

Answer: Captain Gault

Gault is the ship's Captain. Captain Gault is a stern commander, but has some sympathies for the survivors. After Regina jumps overboard, wrapped in chains, Gault rigidly remarks, "It's over! She's gone! Everybody get back to your posts. That was an order." Captain Gault allows Sayid to use the Zodiac to navigate back to the island. Gault tells Sayid, "Stay on a heading of exactly 3-0-5. Faraday says that's the only safe way to and from the boat." Captain Gault perished at the hands of Keamy, shortly after Keamy did away with the doctor.
9. What was George Minkowski's function aboard the freighter?

Answer: communications officer

George Minkowski (Fisher Stevens) served as the communications officer aboard the freighter. While the freighter was in stasis, George and a fellow crew member, Brandon, decided to explore the island. The aborted trip proved to be fatal to Brandon and later, Minkowski. Desmond discovered Minkowski strapped to a bed in the sick bay. Minkowski recognizes Desmond, but Desmond inquires, "Do I know you?" Minkowski replies, "I'm George Minkowski. I'm the communications officer. Before they strapped me down here, all the calls to and from this boat came through me, in the radio room. And every so often, I'd get this flashing light on my console. An incoming call. We were under strict orders never to answer it." Desmond wants to know what the phone calls have to do with him, and Minkowski replies, "Those calls came from your girlfriend. Penelope Widmore." Minkowski finally succumbs to the illness, his final words being, "I can't get back."
10. What ultimately happens to the freighter?

Answer: It exploded and sank.

Keamy nefariously plants an enormous quantity of C-4 explosives in the engine room of the freighter. It is set to explode if Keamy's pulse stops. (dead-man's trigger) Desmond states that, "There's enough C-4 here to blow up a bloody aircraft carrier. When I was in the army... I did six months' explosive ordnance disposal, which, as the saying goes, is just enough time to learn how to blow yourself up."

When Keamy confronts Ben at the Orchid station, Keamy goads Ben into killing Keamy as retribution for the death of Ben's daughter. Consequently, a signal is sent to the freighter, setting off the detonator. Michael has exhausted the supply of liquid nitrogen, which had been delaying the detonation. Just before the explosion, Christian Shephard mystically appears and says, "You can go now, Michael."
