Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Episode #1 "Pilot": In the very first episode of the series, Peggy (Katey Sagal) invites the new neighbors Steve and Marcy Rhoades (David Garrison and Amanda Bearse) over for the evening. She quickly gets into a fight with Al (Ed O'Neill) because Al had plans to do what?

Answer: See a basketball game

Luke Ventura (Ritch Shydner), Al's coworker at the shoe store, invites Al to the Chicago Bulls game. However, Peggy forbids Al to go because she invited company in the form of the new neighbors whom she hopes to befriend. Al stays home but is rude to Steve and Marcy (especially Marcy) and ridicules their lifestyle.
2. Episode #2 "Thinergy": In this episode, Peggy decides to put the family on a strict diet called Thinergy, which will improve her and Al's sex life. From where does she get the idea for this diet?

Answer: Marcy

Marcy loans Peggy a book called "Thinergy" to aid in her sex life. Marcy claims the diet worked well for her and Steve. Peggy puts the whole family on the diet, including the kids Kelly and Bud (Christina Applegate and David Faustino). The diet is very strict and appears to consist of nothing but a few vegetables and water. Al and the kids do not take to the diet and continue to eat as normal.

However, Steve tells Al he has to go on the diet for the sake of his relationship with Peggy.
3. Episode #3 "But I Didn't Shoot the Deputy": After a series of home break-ins, Steve and Marcy decide to get a guard dog which they name what?

Answer: Bella

Al initially thinks Steve and Marcy named the dog after Bela Lugosi but Steve tells him the dog is named after feminist icon Bella Abzug. Bella is very aggressive and keeps the neighborhood up all night. One night, Al mistake Bella for an intruder and shoots the dog dead.
4. Episode #4 "Whose Room is it Anyway?": Steve and Marcy decide to add an addition to their home but cannot decide what to do with the room. Al convinces Steve to turn it into a pool room while Peggy convinces Marcy to use it as a home gym. What does the room ultimately wind up becoming?

Answer: Nothing

Steve and Marcy never get the addition because Al and Peggy refuse to sign the variance. Steve and Marcy ultimately reject both the pool room and the gym and decide to use their additional room as a sitting room they both can use. Since neither of their ideas were used, Al and Peggy refuse to sign the variance so Steve and Marcy cannot expand their property.
5. Episode #5 "Have You Driven a Ford Lately?": Al and Steve purchase a vintage 1965 Ford Mustang, much to the chagrin of their wives. From whom do they buy the car?

Answer: Kelly's boyfriend

When Kelly's boyfriend comes to pick her up for a date, Al insists on meeting him. Al and Steve wind up buying his vintage Ford Mustang and spend all of their free time and money fixing it up. This angers Peggy and Marcy since their husbands no longer pay any attention to them.

In the end, the car is impounded when it is revealed that Kelly's boyfriend stole the car before selling it to Al and Steve.
6. Episode #6 "Sixteen Years and What Do You Get?": Al and Peggy celebrate their sixteenth wedding anniversary. They agree to do nothing big but Peggy throws an elaborate party causing Al's credit card to be declined just before he intends to buy her what gift?

Answer: Watch

Al intends to buy Peg an expensive watch because he knows she will not accept their agreement to not buy each other gifts. However, Al's credit card is maxed out because Peggy used it to pay for the catered dinner and live entertainment. In the end, Al puts the CD player from his car into hers as a gift.
7. Episode #7 "Married...without Children": Al and Peggy go on a romantic getaway and leave the kids with Steve and Marcy. Where do Al and Peggy go for the weekend?

Answer: Wisconsin

Peggy wants Al to take her away on a romantic weekend. Al refuses to do so until he learns the big fight is on cable only and the Bundys don't have cable. Steve tells Al to take Peggy to a little love motel in Wisconsin that is both romantic and has cable.

Meanwhile, Kelly and Bud are staying at Steve and Marcy's. Marcy hopes to use the opportunity to learn about raising children. Kelly and Bud prove to be more than a handful between Bud wrecking the valuable and Kelly inviting unsavory friends over.
8. Episode #8 "The Poker Game": What does Al do with the money he won from Steve in the poker game?

Answer: He buys a fishing rod

Al invites Steve to a poker game with his friends. Steve does not gamble but quickly learns the tics of those playing cards and thinks he could beat them. He winds up losing his whole paycheck to Al. Al tells Peggy he lost but she suspects otherwise. Meanwhile, Steve is scared to tell Marcy he lost his paycheck. Desperate, Steve tells Peggy that Al won money. Peggy becomes mad at Al for hiding money from her and tells Steve she will make Al give the money back to him.

However, Al buys an extremely cheap gift for Peggy that she thinks is valuable and buys the expensive fishing rod for himself.
9. Episode #9 "Peggy Sue Got Work": Peggy gets a job in the clock section of a department store so she can earn the money to buy what?

Answer: A VCR

Al refuses to buy Peggy a VCR which she wants because Oprah's show is now on at the same time as Phil McGraw's. Marcy convinces Peggy to get a job so she can earn the money herself. Peggy does so reluctantly and winds up working in the clock section of a department store which drives her crazy.

Peggy hates working, especially since Al insists on using her paycheck for things for the kids instead of the VCR, and wants to quit. Meanwhile, Al secretly wants Peggy to quit because nothing is being done around the house. However, neither wants the other to know. Peggy does not want to admit to Al she finds work difficult and Al does not want Peggy to know she actually is needed at home.
10. Episode #10 "Al Loses His Cherry": After a fight with Peggy, Al does not come home from work and spends the night with his friend Luke. What are Al and Peggy fighting over?

Answer: Al doesn't want to go to Peggy's cousin's wedding

Peggy's cousin is marrying a man apparently just so he can earn a green card and not be deported. Peggy insists that she and Al go to the wedding but Al refuses. He threatens not to come home and follows through for a change. He goes home with his friend and coworker Luke. Luke is a ladies man and has twin sisters over for a date.

The twins are named Terry and Sherry Cherry. One of the twins tempts Al but his true love for Peg is too strong and he eventually goes home to her.
