Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Vedek Bareil is given a risky experimental drug at his personal request, hoping it will enable him to continue negotiating a peace agreement between the Bajorans and the Cardassians.

Answer: Life Support

After sustaining serious injury due to a plasma leak on the ship ferrying him and the other Bajoran passengers to the station, Kira's then love interest is literally lying on his death bed in the infirmary. Dr. Bashir is able to resuscitate the Vedek, but offers that an experimental drug will prolong his life longer, despite Kira's initial objects. Bareil is determined to establish a peace treaty with the Cardassians.

Although that treaty is eventually agreed upon, the drug ultimately takes its toll; he lives his final hours bed-ridden with a tearful Kira standing over him. Bareil is not given any such drugs in neither "Fascination" nor the first-season finale, and the Vedek doesn't make an appearance at all in "Shakaar".
2. Kasidy Yates is onboard her freighter when it is momentarily captured in a tractor beam by an alien ship. Her freighter is released without further incident when the Defiant intervenes with no other Federation vessels present.

Answer: The Way Of The Warrior

The Klingons, operating on suspicion that a Changeling had infiltrated Cardassia, had been stopping every ship and inspecting them for Changelings onboard, even if meant violating Bajoran space. Shortly after Captain Sisko's sweetheart leaves the station, the senior staff is alerted that Kasidy's freighter is being tractored by a Klingon Bird Of Prey. Sisko and his crew then take the Defiant to intercept the Klingons who, after some persuasion on Sisko's part, release the freighter without causing harm to Kasidy and her crew.
3. Commander Sisko is on the station, serving as arbiter in a case involving the planetary citizenship rights of a young alien child.

Answer: Cardassians

The issue of the orphaned Cardassian boy living with his adopted Bajoran father turns out to be part of a bigger conspiracy involving Gul Dukat and the boy's biological father. To determine if the boy shall be reunited with his father back on Cardassia or remain in the custody and care of his Bajoran adoptive father, Sisko is asked to mediate.

The station's commander then stages a small trial behind closed doors in a room with all parties present, including Garak, Dr. Bashir and Gul Dukat himself. Ultimately, it is the secret records uncovered as evidence by Garak on Bajor and Dr. Bashir's testimony that collectively lead to Sisko's decision that the boy be returned to Cardassia, much to the boy's disappointment.
4. Odo gets married to an alien female visiting the station in this episode.

Answer: The Muse

The outrageous Betazoid, Lwaxana Troi, comes to the station seeking Odo's help to prevent her husband from taking her unborn son away. Under the laws of her husband's people, ownership rights of the son could be taken and given to another man should that new man marry her with earnest and without objection. So towards the end of the episode, Odo and Lwaxana make the marriage official with the station's security chief confessing his true love for his Betazoid mate. Of course, it would all be for show, and the wedded couple would come to realize shortly afterwards that they could never truly be in love with each other, despite caring for one another deeply.
5. Garak is confronted by two Klingon women inside his tailor shop, the same two Klingon women that a Bajoran man secretly meets with in order to obtain a dangerous chemical substance.

Answer: Past Prologue

Lursa and B'Etor, my beloved notorious Duras sisters first seen on "The Next Generation", come to the station to negotiate a trade with the Bajoran terrorist plotting to destroy one end of the wormhole. Before making the exchange--a highly explosive substance for latinum--they meet with Garak a couple of times inside his shop on the Promenade, telling the friendly tailor that they would hand over the Bajoran terrorist to the Cardassians, whom the terrorist had stolen from prior to his arrival on the station.
6. Kira is shot and stunned by a phaser while on the bridge of a Federation vessel; shortly afterwards, two Bajorans beam aboard, and the man shooting Kira assumes temporary command as the vessel enters Cardassian space.

Answer: Defiant

Towards the beginning of the episode, the renegade Thomas Riker convinces an unsuspecting Kira to give him a guided tour of Deep Space 9's newest battleship. After Kira releases the security lockout to enable Riker to have access to the Defiant's computers, Riker suddenly and without warning blasts Kira with a phaser shot. With the docking clamps having already been released by the senior staff at Ops, Riker is able to maneuver the Defiant away from the station, going to warp before a transporter lock can be established on him. Shortly afterwards, two Bajorans beam aboard and assume their stations on the Defiant's bridge with Riker himself taking command, determined to complete his mission, even if it means the possible risk of war with the Cardassians.
7. A Klingon captain has a single Cardassian bound and held captive by a chain collar around the neck while onboard a ship, but by the end of the episode, the Cardassian prisoner agrees to assist the Klingon in conquering a select group of mutual enemies.

Answer: Shattered Mirror

This fourth-season adventure back into the Parallel Universe features Worf as the captain of a Klingon ship and Garak as his prisoner. The Cardassian is bound by a chain collar (which Worf yanks on periodically to induce further torture) as punishment for his cowardice and betrayal in the fight against the Rebels who now occupy Terok Nor.

But towards the end of the episode, Garak pleas with his Klingon 'master' to be released from captivity in exchange for helping him defeat both the Intendant and the Rebels.
8. Jake is walking alone through a corridor in the habitat ring when he encounters someone in a Starfleet uniform, who is also walking alone but holding a phaser; instead of giving in to the person's persuasion of leaving the station together, Jake alerts station security to the person's current whereabouts before escaping from the person's view.

Answer: Whispers

Near the end of the episode, the Chief O'Brien impostor is en route to the docking ring in order to take a runabout, equipped with a phaser. In one of the corridors along the way, he encounters Jake, the only person onboard the station whom, at that point, he feels he can trust completely, as the senior staff and everyone else had been acting so mysterious and secretive around him. Turns out the impostor couldn't trust Jake either; when the impostor tries to talk Jake into leaving the station with him, Jake calls station security on a wall computer panel, alerting everyone to the impostor's location and telling the impostor that everything's going to be okay before disappearing down another corridor.

The impostor then goes on without Jake, ultimately taking a runabout and ending up beaming down to the planet where the real Miles O'Brien is found behind closed doors.
9. Chief O'Brien angrily grabs Quark by the ear during a dinner party inside crew quarters, shortly after Quark forces a massage of one of his earlobes upon one of the party's attendees.

Answer: Fascination

One of my favorite episodes from the show's third season depicts a dinner party inside Commander Sisko's quarters commemorating the Bajoran holiday. Nearly everyone in attendance has love and lust on their minds, as they have all been unknowingly affected by Lwaxana Troi's mind-altering condition (which reminded me of something straight out of "The Naked Now" from the first season of "The Next Generation").

When it's Quark's turn to get infected, he walks right over to Keiko, who had been tending to a dazed Vedek Bareil, who had just been beaten up and knocked onto the floor by a jealous Dax, who had been making sexy, seductive moves on Commander Sisko. Quark begins rubbing his earlobe against Keiko's face without her consent, prompting an angry Chief O'Brien to grab the Ferengi bartender by the ear and lift him up off the floor away from his wife.
10. Kai Winn is having a disagreement with one of the senior officers onboard the station in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Favor The Bold

In fact, none of the episodes during the six-episode arc that premiered the sixth season, which saw Captain Sisko and his comrades eventually retake occupation of Deep Space 9, featured the meddling Eminence Of Bajor. In "Life Support", Kai Winn was one of the passengers rescued from the plasma leak onboard the Bajoran ship; she, Dr. Bashir and Kira all had a difference of opinion as to how to go about treating the dying Vedek Bareil.

In "Strange Bedfellows", Kai Winn protests to Kira's suggestion of stepping down as Kai and giving up her ambition to be a person of power; Kira believes it has corrupted the Kai and lead her on the path to darkness.

Then in "The Reckoning", Captain Sisko and the Bajoran Kai are at odds regarding the ancient artifact discovered on Bajor, which ultimately becomes the source of the supernatural battle of good versus evil between the prophet and the Pah-wraith that temporarily take possession of the bodies of Kira and Jake, respectively.
