People and Places of "Once Upon A Time" Quiz

In the fall of 2011, television was introduced to a drama of fantasy and reality. In an intriguing and convoluting style, fantasy is the characters' "real world" and all of their "reality" is fantasy. That show is "Once Upon A Time".

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the televised first episode (or, pilot) of "Once Upon a Time" a Bostonian, bail bondsman, Emma, is convinced by young run-away named Henry to take him back home to Maine. What is the name of Henry's home town?

Answer: Storybrooke

Emma is skeptical when Henry mentions "Storybrooke". Emma notices Henry is carrying a large book that he explains to be a book of very unique fairy tails. Emma just assumes that Henry has concocted the town's name from his imagination merged with his book.

A great part of this drama is UNANSWERED questions. We viewers are left with as many, or more, questions as to just how Emma fits into the lives and situations of the residents of this small New England town.
2. Very quickly, we the viewers learned the characters of "Once Upon a Time" are interacting in two different worlds. Before they were cursed and banished from their land, they lived in a land where there were "happy endings". What is this place called?

Answer: Fairy Tale Land

Although, many people, places and situations are left unidentified for us the TV viewers, the fairy tale characters clearly live in Fairy Tale Land. And, many of their "back stories" are delightfully explained to us. With the interaction and intertwining of the characters, we wonder was this the original intent of fairy tale authors or is this amazing creative writing on the part of the staff of "Once Upon a Time".
3. Emma realizes "things" are just not what they should be in the small town featured in "Once Upon a Time" but she is just not sure why. By what moniker does Henry (and, eventually others) begin to refer to Emma?

Answer: The One Who Can Save Us

It would prove to be a very tough challenge convincing Emma that she was the one who could ultimately change the lives of every one around her. Henry, though, is completely confident in her from the very beginning. They had just met and she was driving Henry back to Maine, when Emma said "Kid, you've got problems." But Henry confidently replied, "Yup. And you're gonna fix them."
4. As a way of testing some of the other people from "Once Upon a Time", Emma has occasionally explained that she has a secret weapon - a superpower, if you will. What is it?

Answer: She can tell if someone is lying

Emma realized she possessed this unique ability even before Henry came into her life. The ability to read tell if someone is lying had served her well in her work as a bail bondsman. She really had NO idea how valuable the gift would be until she confronted even more formidable foes and situations.
5. In "Once Upon a Time", Henry may be young but he is perceptive. He has noticed one of the town's landmarks that should "move" remains frozen. What is it?

Answer: Hands on the clock tower do not move

As long as Henry can remember the hands on the town's clock tower have remained in the same place. That is what every one else remembers as well. He considers it a definite sign that change is on its way when the very moment that he has convinced Emma to stay in town he looks at the clock - the minute hand clicks forward, Henry smiles broadly with a definite wishful look.
6. Some characters on "Once Upon a Time" are clearly someone else in another world. Some we are left wondering "Who?" The town psychiatrist, Archie, has a last name that would give us a clue to his "other identity" even if Henry had not said it. What is Archie's last name?

Answer: Hopper

Yes, Dr. Archie Hopper is also Jiminy Cricket. He is the favorite "conscience" and voice of reason for the town's residents. Exercising quite a bit of poetic liberty, Dr. Hopper shares his home with a gorgeous Dalmatian named Pongo. Until "Once Upon a Time", we did not expect the characters from the film "Pinocchio" (1940) to interact with the characters from the film "101 Dalmatians" (1961).
7. Mr. Gold is a captivating character on the television show "Once Upon a Time" - a classic example of some one we love to hate. Who is Mr. Gold's other identity or persona?

Answer: Rumpelstiltskin

Mr. Gold is (apparently) named to reflect on his life of spinning gold as Rumpelstiltskin. The creators/writers have taken many "poetic liberties" with the show, this character is among those. Mr. Gold not only doubles as Rumpelstiltskin but Rumpelstiltskin doubles as The Beast (we the viewing audience would suppose from the story of "Beauty and the Beast").

It does make for very interesting story lines when Rumpelstiltskin falls in love with Belle - in both worlds, though.
8. "Once Upon a Time" has given one of its most unique spins on our fairy tales with their "back story" of "Little Red Riding Hood". According to the show her legacy does not have her as just an innocent young girl. Into what monster does she morph?

Answer: A werewolf

To learn that Red Riding Hood is the Big Bad Wolf is an awaking aspect of the well read children's story. A unique spin, indeed. It is explained as an inherited trait. Tough legacy. Oh, Granny is there to protect her, though. Granny got the red cloak Red wears from a wizard.

It is supposed to deter her when she is liable to "turn" or become a wolf/werewolf and thus protect the other people around her.
9. One of the most intriguing characters to come into "Once Upon a Time" rode into town during its first season of broadcast on a motorcycle. He brought with him a mysterious wooden box. What is his name?

Answer: August

August Booth was very slow to reveal anything about himself to anyone in Maine. But it was evident he was a man on a mission. Henry befriended August from the beginning. Whether Henry's interest in the "stranger in town" was genuinely compassionate or completely curiosity would play a big part in the interaction among the other townspeople - especially Emma.
10. Even the title of the fairy tale book that Henry holds so dear has an auspicious trait to its title. When the book's cover is shown to reveal the title, "Once Upon a Time" what subliminal dilemma is shown?

Answer: Raised letters spell O-U-T

Is this a subliminal suggestion to play on the word "out" or merely a co-incidence?
