Joe wonders about the vacant stares on a bunch of plastic dolls, and Quagmire breaks into song and dance in the middle of the store. Peter checks out an old video of a woman voting before they leave the shop.

That night at dinner, Lois asks Meg about Saturday, but Meg claims that she's too busy hanging out at the mall. Really, she sits around and waits for teenagers to leave their food trays at tables in the food court so that she can eat the scraps. After this, Lois realizes Peter reading at the table, but it's really an erotic novel from the novelty shop. Peter finds that he doesn't understand most of the stuff involved in the book, so he sends a note to the publishers.

Peter writes the note to the publisher because he hated the novel and he reads it to the guys at the Drunken Clam. He tells them that he would have written a robot into the story, and they all think that it would be a good idea. Even Lois likes Peter's story about aliens on the planet Niptune. Lois suggests that he take the idea a step further and publish the stories, so he goes to Lois' father, Carter, and asks him for money.

Throughout the episode, Stewie pretends to be training for the Olympic games. In the beginning, he tries balancing on a beam made of books, but he falls and breaks the structure when Chris bothers him. Stewie knocks Chris out and gets the idea to set up a pole vault nearby so that he can land on Chris' stomach as a safety mat.

He says that it was a better idea than using the speech function on his Macintosh computer.

When Peter arrived at Carter's mansion, he initially asked for seven billion dollars in order to finance his stories, but Carter refused the deal immediately and offered him five bucks if he'd retrieve it from a jar filled with barbed wire and salt. Peter does this and makes Xerox copies of his stories and sells them under the Carter Pewterschmidt Publishing label. Soon, he becomes popular in Quahog and goes to book signings.

Betty White actually voiced herself in this episode. When Peter is popular in Quahog, one man accidentally crashed his car while listening to Betty White read Peter's story "The Hot Chick Who Was Italian or Some Kind of Spanish". When this is discovered, Carter is blamed since his name is on all of the works for publishing credits.

Carter gives this to his wife just before his assets are seized. When an attorney-at-law appears at Carter's door, Carter forces him to fight the Rancor before taking his money and belongings. Even his wife leaves him for Ted Turner. After this, Carter plans to kill Peter, but Lois stops him. Peter allows Carter to live with the family until he can get back onto his feet.

In order to help Carter, Peter plans to teach him how to survive as a lower-class citizen. They end up riding the bus to the theater and plan to watch "The Picnic" starring Jude Law and Renee Zellweger. Although Carter doesn't like standing in line, Peter says it'll be worth it to watch Renee Zellweger's 'scrunch face routine'.

In the film, her face looks like an anteater's, and during their picnic, she eats a bunch of ants.

Peter decides to get his 'thinking grenades' out and he thinks of a couple ideas to help Carter get rich again. The first one involves distracting Lois and stealing money from her purse, so Peter mounts onto his unicycle and distracts her while Carter steals from her. It turns out that she only has ten dollars anyways, and it goes towards the cost of the unicycle lessons.
Peter's second idea is to sell marijuana to Meg, and when she gives them money, Carter knocks her out with a lamp and takes the drugs and the money.

Since teen dramas are so popular, Peter decides to make "Quahog Creek" and earn money from it. This idea soon fails when Carter decides not to film anymore, and they decide to rob a train instead. They board the train, but due to the low demand for transportation by trains, no one's on board.

In the end, Carter's wife leaves Ted Turner and gets ten million dollars in the divorce. Carter leaves and gives none of the money to Peter. Lois says that everything is alright and that she's proud of him since she gave up ten million dollars for him ten years earlier. Peter is shocked at this, but doesn't show it.

Instead, he thinks about killing Lois and burning her body while she's talking. Meanwhile, Stewie ends up crashing into a china cabinet and a shard of glass lodges into his forehead during a floor routine.
