Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The starting line of the race was on Frame Lake, often frozen in what territorial capital city?

Answer: Yellowknife

Teams didn't spend too much time in the Canadian territories during this race, but they did begin their lengthy adventure on the frozen waters of Frame Lake outside Yellowknife, the capital of the northwest Territories. The extent of their stay also involved a task which forced them to learn a phrase in one of the territory's eleven official languages, Weledeh.

After this, they ended up heading straight to the airport, not returning to the north of Canada for the remained of the season.
2. Teams visited Pyramid Lake and canoed down the Athabasca River in which of these Canadian National Parks?

Answer: Jasper

The remainder of Leg 1 sent teams into Alberta's Rocky Mountain parks where they needed to complete two different tasks in Jasper National Park. The first was a vertigo-inducing Road Block where one member of each team needed to climb on and around the Jasper SkyTram to get their clue while the second involved rappelling and using an avalanche beacon to locate a hidden cache.

The Pit Stop for the race's ten teams was on Pyramid Lake in the shadow of the mountains.
3. In Leg 2, team members descended down the outside of the tallest tower of the depicted skyline. Which building is it?

Answer: Calgary Tower

Racing into Calgary, Alberta in the second leg of the race, teams ended up completing all sorts of tasks from high-adrenaline rappelling down the side of Calgary Tower to a race for Express Passes at Canada Boy Vinyl and a search for an ever-moving mobile record store making stops throughout the city.

The race also visited Calgary in its first season, albeit for much fewer tasks. In the end, no teams were eliminated in Calgary in Leg 2; nine carried on into the first international leg.
4. Both Legs 3 and 4 were raced through what Southeast Asian nation?

Answer: Vietnam

In Legs 3 and 4, teams raced through different ecosystems in Vietnam beginning in Leg 3 with the Mekong Delta in Cai Be and proceeding in Leg 4 to the bustling, urban environment of Ho Chi Minh City. The third leg saw teams taking boats through the village markets of Cai Be, herding ducks in the local fields, and learning traditional dances.

The fourth leg took teams to repair shops, restaurants, and karaoke bars on their way to the Pit Stop. Stephane and Antoine and Anne and Tanya were eliminated in these two legs of the race.
5. On Haida Gwaii, teams completed a Road Block involving which of these in Leg 5?

Answer: Totem poles

Leg 5 brought teams to British Columbia, sending them on a trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands, known for its native culture. A Road Block task taught team members about totem poles and an art challenge in the old forests separated the strong and weak teams early on. Following this, teams completed the remainder of their fifth leg in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, completing a second Road Block involving the logging industry.
6. In Leg 6, teams flew to what Ontario 'steel town' for their tasks?

Answer: Hamilton

Hamilton, Ontario marked the first half of a double-length Ontario leg as the final six teams battled it out to forge ahead and stay in the race. Tasks in Hamilton didn't involve the steel industry for which Hamilton is famous (at least not entirely), but instead teams were asked to fly planes, complete adventurous sports sponsored by Mountain Equipment Co-op, and delve into the local art scene. One side of the Detour involved steel; teams were asked to weld on a dry dock. Following this, teams headed to Kingston, on the other side of Toronto along Lake Ontario.
7. In Leg 8, teams completed a Detour task involving what beverage, well-known in the city visited (and depicted)?

Answer: Rum

Visiting the Havana Club Rum Museum in Havana, Cuba in Leg 8, teams had a Detour option in which they were able to get their hands dirty crushing sugar cane, making extracts needed to create delicious tropical beverages. Only Jillian and Emmett and Steph and Kristen went with this option (with the latter team getting injured in doing so) while the other teams learned how to dance the casino salsa.

Other interesting spots in Havana in this leg included El Morro and the Hotel Ambos Mundos, the former home of Ernest Hemingway.
8. The French fortress of Louisbourg was a landmark visited by teams in the ninth leg of the race. What province was visited?

Answer: Nova Scotia

The Fortress of Louisbourg featured an active Route Info task in which teams needed to dress as French soldiers from centuries ago and deliver six heavy barrels uphill to a cannon. At the end of the task they would be able to fire a cannon and head to the Pit Stop at the Louisbourg Lighthouse.

This leg of the race was the last one to feature a Double U-Turn and was one of the rare instances in any race not to feature a Road Block task. Teams also visited the city of Sydney and the town of Iona for a series of tasks involving the island's Scottish background.
9. In Saint-Andrews-By-the-Sea, teams played which of these sports at this location in Leg 10?

Answer: Golf

Teams headed to the Algonquin Resort Golf Club in Leg 10, completing tasks in and around Saint John and Saint Andrew, New Brunswick. Here, teams found a Face-Off task, during which teams went head-to-head in a hole of golf, aiming for the lowest score before heading onward to the next Road Block task. Also during this leg, the final four teams encountered their final Detour task. Frankie and Amy were the last team eliminated here at Passamaquoddy Bay, leaving only three other teams.
10. It's the final leg of the race and the final three teams head to Montreal. What task is completed at the location shown?

Answer: Road Block

The Montreal Biosphere was the location of one of two Road Block tasks in Montreal during the final leg of the race, the second being St-Viateur Bagel. Teams were also told to visit Montreal mainstays including Cirque du Soleil and the Bank of Montreal.

It was in Montreal atop Mont Royal proper that Steph and Kristen crossed the finish line in first place, winning the $250,000 grand prize and becoming the first all-female team to win "The Amazing Race Canada".
