Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many Road Blocks did teams find in Jasper National Park in the first leg of the race?

Answer: Two

As is typical in the first leg of the race, teams faced not one, but two Road Blocks, with each needing to be completed by a different team member. In the first, the selected team member needed to climb on the sides and monkey bars below the Jasper SkyTram, suspended midway up Whistler's Mountain, to collect their clue.

In the second, they had to rappel into a canyon, hike through a river, and search the brush with an avalanche beacon to locate their clue in a hidden cache. This being said, Kelly and Anthony didn't complete their first Road Block, instead taking a penalty, while four other racers were unable to finish the SkyTram task due to inclement weather.
2. In which Canadian city did team members rappel fifty-eight storeys for their Road Block task in Leg 2?

Answer: Calgary

Teams ended up racing on foot through Downtown Calgary in most of the first half of Leg 2, inevitably reaching a physical Road Block task involving rappelling down the side of the fifty-eight storey Calgary Tower. Once the selected team members descended the entirety of the looming structure, they would be able to receive their next clue from the tower mascot (also a tower). Antoine, Emmett, Kristen, Joel, Lowell, Frankie, Anne, Kelly, and Yvette were the participants in this frightening task.
3. In the third leg of the race, which team did not complete the duck-herding Road Block task?

Answer: Stephane and Antoine

In this Road Block task, team members needed to 'have all their ducks in a row' to ensure that they herded twenty waterfowl into their pens in Cai Be, Vietnam. While many teams had minimal issues transporting their ducks with flagged poles, Stephane seemed to work counter to the tasks's requirements, in turn assisting other teams in getting ahead of the game.

As a result, he took a four-hour penalty on the task, resulting in an elimination. The roster for this task included Stephane, Kate, Jillian, Rita, Tanya, Ashley, Steph, Julie, and Amy. Following this, teams transported two ducks to a local market.
4. Who of these was the first to complete the scooter building Road Block task in Vietnam in Leg 4?

Answer: Joel

Joel, a mechanic, was right in his wheelhouse with this hands-on task at a busy intersection in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. For this task, teams were given all the pieces required (and the Vietnamese instructions) to reconstruct a motor scooter that they would later be able to start. Kristen, Kelly, Joel, Emmett, Yvette, Frankie, Julie, and Anne ended up heading into this task, completing the repairs with minimal issue, before advancing to a feast of local delicacies.
5. In Leg 5, every single team member in the race completed a Road Block task.

Answer: True

Leg 5, taking teams to Haida Gwaii in Northern British Columbia, took teams from Skidegate to Prince Rupert, completing tasks associated with Haida culture and the logging industry. In Skidegate, team members had to learn stories behind local totem poles in a memory challenge while in Prince Rupert, the other team member had to use a dozer tugboat to move logs across a marina. Because two Road Blocks were featured, every team member, by the rules, had to complete one during the leg.
6. Which team used an Express Pass to skip the Road Block task in Hamilton in Leg 6?

Answer: Frankie and Amy

At the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario, teams were required to choose one member to hop into a de Havilland Chipmunk, ascend to two thousand feet, and take the controls to perform a 360 degree banked turn without the help of their pilot. If they could maintain the appropriate consistency throughout their difficult turn, they would be able to return to terra firma and continue the race. Frankie and Amy ended up using their Express Pass to skip this task, pushing ahead of all other teams early in the leg.
7. All six teams completed the speech memorization Road Block task in Kingston in Leg 7.

Answer: True

Despite the fact that Steph and Kristen could have had this task done from the get-go using their Express Pass, they persevered, ending the seventh leg of the race with the Express Pass in-hand. For this task, teams headed to Bellvue House in Kingston, Ontario and one member of each duo had to memorize a speech by Sir John A. MacDonald, Canada's first Prime Minister, to be able to collect their next clue. Following this, they were allowed to make their way to the next Pit Stop.
8. In the eighth leg of the race, teams completing the Road Block did so in what country?

Answer: Cuba

Teams flew to Havana in Leg 8, completing tasks in and around the Cuban capital city. Amongst these was a unique Road Block task in which one member of each team (Emmett, Steph, Rita, Joel, and Frankie) needed to get into the recycling spirit and complete a task involving mechanical ingenuity. Using old tire rubber, the selected team members needed to properly create three engine gaskets, fitting them to an engine part to demonstrate the correct construction. Following this task, teams headed to the eighth Pit Stop.
9. During the Road Block in New Brunswick in Leg 10, teams were not allowed to use which of these?

Answer: Eyes

Reaching the Scents and Sensitivity Garden of the Kingsbrae Horticultural Garden, the final four teams needed to make 'scents' of their clue by completing a task blindfolded. For the first part of the task, the selected team member needed to memorize the names, textures and scents of fifteen unique herbs and flowers.

Then, without their partner helping, they needed to investigate the same fifteen, out of order, with a gardener. Once they named off all fifteen correctly, they could continue on with the race. Joel, Steph, Jillian, and Amy completed this task; the latter two were required to complete this task since their Road Block counts were uneven going into the final leg.
10. The final leg of the race (in Montreal) featured only one Road Block task.

Answer: False

It featured two.
In the first, one team member had to use a mechanical ascender to climb their way up through the Montreal Biosphere, then pull themselves across the top and rappel down the other side. Steph, Emmett, and Joel all completed this physical task.
The other team members completed the second task at St-Viateur Bagel. There, using orders placed for them, they needed to properly organize, stack, and carry their deliveries to be made in the Mile End region. Whoever completed the first Road Block was not allowed to complete this one.
