Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leg 9 of the race sent teams to what Canadian island to complete their tasks?

Answer: Cape Breton Island

Starting their ninth leg of the race, the remaining five teams were told to fly from Havana, Cuba in the Caribbean to the city of Sydney in Nova Scotia, four thousand kilometers away. Upon arrival, teams needed to hop into brand new Chevrolet Malibu cars and drive themselves and reach the Canadian Coast Guard College in Sydney.

There, teams hopped into boats and, using proper nautical lingo, guide their drivers to one of two locations out in the water. Once they found a marked body, one team member needed to dive into the sea and retrieve the dummy to bring it back to the shore. Once they returned the right body to an ambulance they would receive their next clue.
2. Which team completed the post office Speed Bump task in Leg 9?

Answer: Rita and Yvette

After completing their task at the Canadian Coast Guard College, Rita and Yvette located their Speed Bump marker which sent them to the Christmas Island Post Office. After delivering two bags of letters to their destination, both team members needed to properly stamp all mail within the sacks before they would be able to continue on with the race. All other teams headed to the town of Iona, meanwhile, to find their Cape Breton-inspired Detour task.
3. The 'Feel the Burn' Detour task in Leg 9 had teams complete events in which of the following?

Answer: Scottish Highland Games

Arriving in the town of Iona, teams found their Detour task at the Highland Village Museum. For this task, teams either completed 'Feel the Burn' or 'Feel the Rhythm'. In 'Feel the Burn', completed by Jillian and Emmett, Steph and Kristen, and Frankie and Amy, teams needed to complete three different events in the Scottish Highland Games beginning with a caber toss, continuing with a farmer's walk, and ending with a stone throw. In 'Feel the Rhythm', teams needed to learn the steps of a highland dance and perform it in sync with dancers onstage. Joel and Ashley and Rita and Yvette completed this one.
4. Which team neither used nor found themselves victim of the race's final Double U-Turn in Leg 9?

Answer: Frankie and Amy

Finishing the Detour task at the Scottish Highland Village, teams were told to proceed on foot to their next clue at the Double U-Turn Board nearby. When teams located the Blackhouse on the museum grounds, they would either make their choice or head back to the Detour to complete the previous task they did not attempt.

This meant that Joel and Ashley and Rita and Yvette were forced to complete the 'Feel the Burn' task since they initially took 'Feel the Rhythm'. After this, teams headed to the Fortress of Louisbourg where, putting on French military garb, they were required to push six barrels of gunpowder uphill to the battlements and fire a cannon to obtain their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Nova Scotia in Leg 9?

Answer: Rita and Yvette

At the end of Leg 9, teams were told to drive themselves to the next Pit Stop at the Louisbourg Lighthouse. Jillian and Emmett, the latter of who is from Cape Breton Island, won the leg and a trip for two to Mexico City courtesy of Hotels.com. Additionally, teams were given a challenge early in the leg to drive the least distance in the leg using the Ford Teen Driver System Driving Report. Both Jillian and Emmett and Frankie and Amy won the challenge with a total distance of 215 kilometres, so both teams won $5,000. In the end of the leg, the Speed Bump and Double U-Turn kept Rita and Yvette, already in last, in the fifth spot.

They found themselves eliminated in this leg of the race, leaving four teams.
6. Leg 10 of the race sent teams to what New Brunswick city?

Answer: Saint John

Starting the tenth leg of the race at the Merchant Mariner Monument on the Sydney Harbour Boardwalk, teams hopped on one of two buses heading to the city of Saint John, New Brunswick. Upon arrival, teams headed to the Saint John City Market to commence a task sponsored by Hotels.com. Using their Chevrolet Spark vehicles, teams needed to deliver gift baskets to five different local hotels using a Hotels.com tablet app. Once all five were dropped off their would receive their final Detour clue of the race back at the market.
7. All four remaining teams completed which of these Detour tasks in New Brunswick in Leg 10?

Answer: '1879'

Receiving their Detour task in Saint John, teams dealt with either Moosehead or molasses. In '1867', teams would have headed to the Moosehead Breweries, collected bottles from the production line, and fill enough boxes to create a pallet's worth of beer boxes. No one went with this option though.

Instead, all four teams chose '1879' in which they headed to the Crosby's Molasses factory where, using the correct ingredients and recipes, they had to create 650 grams of taffy to proper specifications.

This was the final Detour task of the race.
8. The second (and final) Face-Off of the race occurred in Leg 10. What sport did teams play for this challenge?

Answer: Golf

Following the Detour, teams were told to drive themselves to the Algonquin Resort Golf Club in Saint Andrews where they would need to line up for the final Face-Off of the race. In this head-to-head battle, the teams needed to tee off as pairs on the 12th hole and take turns sinking their shots. Whichever team got the lowest score on the hole would b able to continue on the race while the last team (once again, Frankie and Amy) had to wait out the sand of an hourglass.
9. In the Road Block in New Brunswick in Leg 10, team members needed to memorize the scents and names of fifteen plants in what language?

Answer: English

After the Face-Off, teams found a Road Block clue waiting at the Scents and Sensitivity Garden of the Kingsbrae Horticultural Garden. There, teams found a particularly difficult Road Block, during which the chosen team member (Joel, Steph, Jillian, and Amy) were required to wear a blindfold and, with their partners, memorize the scents and names of fifteen different herbs and plants.

Then, they needed to name the plants by memory as they were led around a different set; they would not know their result (a simple yes or no) until the end.

Some teams, misreading their clues, learned the Latin names of the plants instead of the required English names.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 10?

Answer: Frankie and Amy

After completing the Road Block, teams were told to use their vehicles' OnStar feature to call Jon Montgomery and find the final Pit Stop of the race, Indian Point on the shores of Passamaquoddy Bay. After a nerve-wracking Road Block task, Steph and Kristen won this penultimate leg, taking with them a trip for two to Sydney, Australia courtesy of Hotels.com.

They were followed soon after by Joel and Ashley and Jillian and Emmett, rounding out the final three. In the end, Frankie and Amy, held back by a misread clue at the Road Block, were the final team to be eliminated from the race.
11. The final leg of the race sent teams to what city, home to the Finish Line?

Answer: Montreal

Beginning the final leg of the race, the final three teams were told to fly from Saint John to Montreal, their final destination for this fourth "Amazing Race Canada". Upon landing in this city, teams needed to take cabs to the Cirque du Soleil World Headquarters and, dressing as performers, take turns completing acrobatic challenges including the bungee trapeze, a balance ball, and scaling a Chinese pole. Once the teams could power through these, they could receive their next clue.
12. In the final leg of the race, teams needed to crack a code in the headquarters for which Canadian bank, allowing them to access a bank vault containing their next clue?

Answer: Bank of Montreal

Heading back into Montreal, teams needed to find the headquarters for the Bank of Montreal and, in the lobby, begin a puzzle. Using a codebook, both team members needed to work together to decipher an encoded message about the Bank of Montreal and its history. If the entire message was recited correctly to their bank teller they would be able to head into the bank's vaults and open the safety deposit box containing their next clue.

After this, teams reached the Montreal Biosphere where the first Road Block of the leg (involving mechanical ascension and rappelling) was completed by Joel, Steph, and Emmett.
13. In the final Road Block of the race, team members were required to deliver which of the following through city streets?

Answer: Bagels

After their first Road Block task, teams were directed into the streets of Montreal to find the famous St-Viateur Bagel. Here, the second Road Block of the leg was found, and for this one Kristen, Jillian, and Ashley had to make deliveries through the French city streets of Mile End. Using orders given to them, they needed to collect the correct assortment of bagels, stack them on delivery rods in the proper order, and carry them to three different locations to get their next clue. Jillian, Kristen, and Ashley did this final Road Block task.
14. In the memory task at the end of Leg 11, teams needed to recall which of the following from the eleven legs of the race?

Answer: Quotes or keywords/phrases

After the final Road Block, teams headed to the Moment Factory where they found their final task of the race-- the typical memory challenge. For this, teams were given a series of keywords and phrases, all relating to their experiences on the race and including Detour names, tasks, locations, or phrases told to them. Once they placed the eleven correct panels onto their multimedia boards, they would be given their next clue sending them to the Finish Line.
15. Which team won "The Amazing Race Canada 4"?

Answer: Steph and Kristen

After the memory task, teams received their final clue of the race, sending them by taxi to the Finish Line. In the end, the final three teams needed to make their way to Kondiaronk Belvedere atop Mont Royal where they would be met by Jon Montgomery and the previously-eliminated seven teams.

In the end, it was Steph and Kristen, winners of four previous legs, who crossed the finish line in first place and became the first all-female team to win "The Amazing Race Canada" (breaking the streak of all-male teams winning the first three seasons).

They won the $250,000 (CAD) prize, a Chevrolet vehicle of their choice (each), and a trip for two around the world courtesy of Hotels.com. They were followed by Jillian and Emmett in second and Joel and Ashley in third.
