Answer: Assault with a deadly weapon

Miguel and his girlfriend severely beat an elderly man after he accidentally scratches Miguel's car. He is also charged with criminal mischief in the second degree. Although he is given a 15 year sentence, he will be up for parole in just two years.

Answer: Receiving and discharge

Miguel is stabbed before he can even be taken to his cell. We see much of the first episode through the eyes of Tobias Beecher and this attack is the first of many terrifying events in the prison. Miguel ends up spending his first few weeks in the hospital wing before finally making it to Emerald City.

Answer: Maritza

Maritza is given the same sentence as Miguel and is sent to Parker Women's prison nearby. She is pregnant at the time of their crime and trial. Miguel jokes that it was romantic for them to get arrested together.

Answer: Liver

Miguel is allowed to be taken to the hospital for the birth of his baby. He had previously been unwilling to take an interest in the baby but, thanks to the encouragement of Father Mukada, he changes his attitude. Miguel is a very proud father but is devastated to learn shortly afterwards that their baby is dying from liver damage.

The baby does eventually die, triggering a kind of breakdown for Miguel. Convinced that his pride had somehow caused God to punish him by taking away his baby, Miguel cuts his own face, leaving a huge scar.

Answer: Minding the hostages

Miguel, as leader of the Latino inmates in Emerald City, is given a main responsibility during the riot and asks to be allowed to be in charge of the hostages. There is an implication that he does this in part to protect Father Mukada. He is not unkind to the hostages, with the exception of Joseph Mineo who is rude to him.

He tries to get medical help for the injured hostages, but his request is refused by the other leaders of the riot.

Answer: That he is too white

Hernandez is a legendary gang leader known as El Cid, so Miguel is happy to hand leadership over to him, hoping to become his lieutenant, but Hernandez has no interest in working with Miguel. He questions whether Miguel is actually Latino and tells him that he is too white.

When Miguel points out that he can't do anything to change that, Hernandez tells him that it's not just about skin colour, it's about "cojones".

Answer: Blinds him

Hernandez tells Miguel that he wants the eyes of Eugene Rivera. Miguel feels trapped - if he attacks a CO, he will be tortured by the other COs for the rest of his incarceration, but if he refuses he will have to face the wrath of El Norte. Eventually, in a state of desperation, Miguel steals a scalpel from his job as a hospital orderly and uses it to cut Rivera's eyes, in a particularly gory scene! Rivera is permanently blinded as a result.

Answer: Jason Cramer

Miguel's water bottle is spiked by Ryan O'Reilly in a plot to fix the outcome of the tournament to favour his brother, Cyril. The drugged Miguel cannot beat Jason Cramer and ends up losing the battle. This leads to him losing even more credibility, as he is beaten by an openly gay man, and the Latinos are not happy at this dent to their reputation.

Answer: The Mexican border

Busmalis is caught fairly soon after his escape but Miguel manages to keep his head down for quite some time. This escape was written into the story because the actor playing Miguel, Kirk Acevedo, had a commitment to another television programme. Miguel is eventually caught trying to cross over into Mexico. On his return to Oz, he tells Warden Glynn that he was going to travel through South America to a place nicknamed "The End of the Earth".

He asks if Glynn would have been willing to follow him that far and Glynn admits that he probably wouldn't.

Answer: Jorge Vasquez

Jorge Vasquez is the Latino inmate in Emerald city with the distinct long, frizzy hair. With Morales now leading the Latinos following Hernandez's death, Miguel is no longer a target for the Latino inmates but Carmen Guerra still harbours a grudge against him. Vasquez, a friend of Guerra, attacks Miguel, who retaliates by cutting Vasquez's throat. Miguel is sent back to solitary for the remainder of season 4.

Answer: In his shoulder

Miguel recognises that Guerra wants to hurt him, so he decides to let Guerra stab him in the shoulder. This would allow Guerra to do what he wants to do and would also help cement Miguel's reputation as a tough inmate. Guerra goes against their agreement though, and stabs Miguel in the chest, narrowly missing his heart. Miguel's actions impress young Latino inmate Jaime Velez, who asks to be Miguel's lieutenant. Miguel orders Velez to kill Guerra but the attempt backfires and Velez ends up dead, a fact which weighs heavily on Miguel's conscience.

Answer: Obey commands in Spanish

Miguel signs up for the guide dog program in an attempt to make up for blinding Eugene Rivera. He manages to get the program leader, Alicia Hinden, to agree to give his dog to Rivera by way of an apology. Despite being specifically told not to teach the dogs anything additional, Miguel taught his dog to obey all the commands in Spanish as well as English, based on the assumption that the Rivera family spoke Spanish at home.

Although he went against the strict rules, Alicia was very impressed with this initiative.

Answer: A parole board member

Miguel is up for parole and during his review he is provoked by one particular parole board member, Luis Ruiz. Ruiz is later made the head of the parole board and he admits to Miguel that he deliberately provoked him. Ruiz explains that he is sick of people like Miguel giving Latinos a bad name, so claims he will force Miguel to come to parole reviews every year but will never grant his parole.

Answer: Wolfgang Cutler

Wolfgang Cutler is a member of the Aryan Brotherhood and is a violent sexual predator. Wolfgang is killed by James Robeson after Robeson has endured his sexual abuse for some time. Miguel is later informed that all of Wolfgang's belongings have been left to him with no explanation. Miguel meets with Wolfgang's widow, Cathy Jo, who also has no idea why Wolfgang has left everything to Miguel. Miguel and Cathy Jo form a friendship and it is implied that they may have a romantic interest in each other, which makes the remaining members of the Aryan Brotherhood very angry.

Answer: Alonzo Torquemada

Torquemada is a gay nightclub owner who brings a new type of drug, D-tabs, into Emerald city. He is a powerful man who develops an obsession with Miguel. He makes a number of propositions to Miguel, both sexual propositions and business offers, but Miguel repeatedly refuses both.

After learning from Ruiz that he will never make parole, Miguel becomes completely depressed and hopeless and it is implied that he gives into Torquemada's advances.
