Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Beecher is sent to live in Oz after killing a little girl whilst driving under the influence of alcohol. What was the little girl's name?

Answer: Kathy Rockwell

Beecher has twice before been arrested for drunk driving when he has this accident. Refusing to enter into a plea bargain, Beecher believes he will be able to win the case and go free. The judge, however, decides to make an example of Beecher, given his background in law, and sentences him to the maximum term of 15 years.

Beecher is confronted by Mrs Rockwell in season 1, but is unable to even speak to her, due to a combination of his shame, and the fact that he is high on heroin. He later meets the Rockwells again prior to his parole hearing, where he apologises, and they tell him they are learning to live with the death of their daughter. They tell Beecher that they will not interfere with the hearing.
2. Shortly after arriving in Emerald City, Beecher is moved into Vern Schillinger's cell. Who was he sharing with prior to the move?

Answer: Simon Adebisi

Beecher is initially assigned to Adebisi's pod, and is understandably intimidated by him. Adebisi, who is considerably physically stronger than him, implies that he will rape Beecher at some point. When Beecher meets the seemingly pleasant Schillinger, he is thrilled when Schillinger suggests Beecher be moved into his cell instead. Unfortunately for Beecher, he has moved out of the frying pan and into the fire, and it's not long before Schillinger begins to rape him, as well as branding a swastika into Beecher's buttock.
3. Whilst in prison, Beecher discovers that his wife, Genevieve, has died, seemingly at her own hands. What method does she use for her "suicide"?

Answer: She locks herself in the garage with the car engine running.

Beecher is told that his wife has killed herself, and his two eldest children were the ones to find her. A few days later, he receives a letter from her, written before her death, blaming him for her desperation. Schillinger suggests that Genevieve wrote the note because someone had a gun to her head, and implies that he arranged her death. Beecher never finds out whether this is true, or if Schillinger is just trying to hurt him.
4. What does Beecher use to murder Nazi-sympathising CO, Karl Metzger?

Answer: His own hands

Beecher spends a considerable length of time in the hospital, after having both arms and legs broken by Schillinger and Chris Keller. During this time, his nails grow very long. On his return to Emerald City, he discovers that Karl Metzger, an Aryan Brotherhood member, is now running the unit, and punishing everyone who goes up against the Aryans. Beecher files his long nails into sharp points, then when he is interrogated by Metzger in a corridor, he slashes at Metzger's face and throat, causing him to bleed out.

He then clips his nails, removing any trace of the "weapons".
5. Who tells Beecher that Chris Keller ordered the kidnapping of his children?

Answer: Eli Zabitz

Knowing that Eli Zabitz had a previous conviction for kidnap, Beecher asks him to investigate and try to find information on who might have taken his children. Unbeknownst to Beecher, Schillinger has already payed Eli to give him false information. Beecher believes Eli and attacks Keller.

Later, Schillinger orders Robson to murder Eli, despite promising to protect him. At the same time, Keller decides to kill Eli himself. The three of them meet in the storeroom, and while Keller and Robson argue over who gets to do the deed, Eli is overcome with fear and has a heart attack.
6. While awaiting the day of his parole hearing, Beecher has an extended dream sequence in which he is released from Oz, and begins a relationship with his lawyer, Katherine. What are they doing in the final scene of the sequence?

Answer: Going for a picnic in a park

The dream begins with the meeting of the parole board, then features Beecher returning to Emerald City to collect his things, leaving the prison, and finally starting his new life with Katherine, by going on a picnic with her, and his daughter Holly. We do not know that this long sequence is a dream until it is over.

The following day, at the actual hearing, Beecher is denied parole, much to the shock and dismay of Katherine.
7. After years of hatred, Beecher and Schillinger finally agree to confront each other in one of Sister Peter Marie's interaction sessions. Which event during one session causes Beecher to physically attack Schillinger?

Answer: Schillinger denies ever raping Beecher.

The interaction sessions initially go well, though it is fairly obvious that Schillinger is saying only what he thinks everyone wants to hear. After Schillinger condemns homosexuality, Beecher points out his hypocrisy by talking of how Schillinger raped him and Cyrill O'Reilly, among others.

When Schillinger denies that this ever happens, Beecher snaps, knowing that the rapes were the catalyst of their violent clashes. He launches himself at Schillinger, attacking him fiercely.
8. After initially trying to protect family friend, Adam Guenzel, Beecher eventually gives Guenzel up to the Aryans, in return for what?

Answer: A job in the mail room

Adam Guenzel and his friend, Franklin Winthrop, are sent to Oz after a conviction for rape. Winthrop is sent to Unit B, where he is immediately turned into a "prag" by the Aryans. Guenzel goes to Emerald City, and bonds with Beecher, who has known the Guenzel family for years.

Schillinger offers Beecher a job in the mail room, which would mean an opportunity to deliver to protective custody, and see his lover, Chris Keller. Beecher initially refuses this, knowing what the Aryans would do to Guenzel, but later changes his mind when Guenzel attacks him after discovering Beecher has had male lovers.
9. Who murders Beecher's father?

Answer: Franklin Winthrop

Beecher's father visits the prison regularly, partly to see his son, and partly to work on Chris Keller's case. Franklin Winthrop has been abused by the Aryan Brotherhood since his arrival, and is forced to wear lipstick and pigtails every day. Knowing that any attack on Beecher will please Schillinger, Winthrop volunteers to murder his father in return for membership in the Aryan Brotherhood. Schillinger stays true to his word, and allows Winthrop to remove his makeup after the murder.
10. After finally being granted parole, Beecher ends up back in prison for committing which crime?

Answer: Transporting illegal drugs

After Beecher leaves prison, he returns to visit Keller, and tells him that he has begun a relationship with his daughter's female teacher. Keller is insanely jealous, and plans to have Beecher brought back to Oz. He tells Beecher that his ex-wife, Bonnie, has cancer, and the only drugs which can help her are illegal in the USA.

He asks Beecher to carry the drugs over the border for him. Beecher is reluctant, but Keller begs, and he eventually gives in. Keller then anonymously calls the police and tells them when and where to catch Beecher, and he is swiftly brought back to prison.
