Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 1 of the race, teams completed their first Road Block task in Indonesia.

Answer: False

The Road Block in Leg 1 was actually the very first clue of the race, obtained from clue boxes inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Here, one member of each team needed to brave some intense heights by climbing to the top of the 75m lighting towers surrounding the stadium and abseiling down to the bottom. Team members to complete this very first task included Mos, Ryot, Richard, Mel, Tyler, Dave, Tracy, Renae, Jeff, Matt, and Chris.

When they had reached the bottom, team members could open the clue directing them to the airport and their first destination: Denpasar, Indonesia.
2. In the Road Block in Leg 2 in Vietnam, team members needed to place which of these objects in a proper order?

Answer: Coins

In Leg 2, teams completed a Road Block towards the end of the leg at Khai Dinh Tomb in Hue, Vietnam. Here, one member of each team needed to travel to Minh Mang Tomb to retrieve seven large coins, each one representing the seven emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty. Ehen they returned they would be told to place them in the order of their reigns in Vietnam.

This information was listed alongside the coins at the other tomb. Many team members needed to make a second trip back to gather more info. Nathan, Tom, Anastasia, Sam, Joey, Kelly, Mo, Luke, Ryot, Mel, and Anne-Marie finished this before heading to the Pit Stop at the Citadel in Hue's Imperial Fortress.
3. In Leg 3 (in Hong Kong and Macau), teams completed a Road Block themed around which of these?

Answer: The Chinese Zodiac

Because Richard and Joey claimed the only Fast Forward of the race during their visit to Hong Kong, China (in which they shaved their heads) they got to skip all of the tasks of Leg 3 and proceed directly to the third Pit Stop at the A Ma Cultural Village. Everyone else, meanwhile, completed the Road Block at the same site as the Pit Stop. For this task they needed to use hints enclosed in their clues to correctly order the twelve symbols of Chinese Zodiac. Mel, Tyler, Sam, Tom, Kelly, Luke, Chris, Anne-Marie, and Mos attacked this one though Sam and Renae utilized the Express Pass. Mos and Anne-Marie also opted to take a four hour penalty for not finishing the task; the latter participant was eliminated (along with Tracy).
4. In Legs 4 and 5, team members completed Road Blocks in which country?

Answer: South Africa

In Leg 4, teams flew to South Africa and completed the Road Block at Kragga Kamma Game Park near Port Elizabeth. Here, Nathan, Chris, Tom, Jeff, Dave, Sam, Richard, Mel, and Mos all took a bungee jump down the side of the Bloukrans Bridge, 216 meters down.
In Leg 5, teams remained in South Africa, but transitioned to the city of Cape Town where one member of each team performed a skydiving Road Block task. In this one, Matt, Tyler, Anastasia, Jeff, Alana, Dave, Renae, and Mo took the plunge.
5. In Leg 6 in the Czech Republic, team members completed a Road Block involving archery. What did they win if they hit the bullseye?

Answer: $50

For the Road Block in Leg 6, teams headed to a medieval fair in Prague where one member of each needed to use a bow and arrow to hit a target (twice) with no more than forty arrows. If they hit the bullseye, they would receive $50 for use during the race. If they ran out of arrows, another team member would need to give theirs to them or they would need to take a four hour penalty.

While Nathan, Chris, Dave, Matt, Luke, Alana, and Renae ended up stepping up to complete this one, only three of them won the $50 prize: Chris, Dave, and Luke.
6. In the first half of Leg 7, team members completed a Road Block in which they had to do which of these things in a church?

Answer: Abseil

At the end of Leg 7, teams proceeded to the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist in the Czech town of Kutna Hora. Here, one member of each team needed to head inside and head upstairs, above the vaulted ceilings. Once they harnessed themselves up, they needed to abseil from a hole in the roof to the bottom of the church (to the sound of a heralding choir).

At the bottom, they received a clue sending them to the nearby Bone Church, the half-way point of this double-length leg.
7. In the second half of Leg 7, teams completed a Road Block in which of these locations in Poland?

Answer: A salt mine

In the second half of Leg 7, teams took a train to the city of Krakow, Poland where they needed to descend into the Wieliczka Salt Mine for a Road Block task. In this one, the participating team members needed to push a mine cart down an extensive mine tunnel to a sealed, stone container containing their next clue. Searching through their mine cart, they had to find the correctly-shaped crystal key to open the container and obtain their next Detour. Luke, Nathan, Renae, Chris, Dave, and Matt finished up with this one.
8. In Leg 9, team members needed to decipher a Hebrew scroll in Israel for their Road Block. Which team member completed this task?

Answer: Sam

For this Road Block task, teams visited the site where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in Qumran. Here, one member of each time needed to use a letter key to read a Hebrew message. Part of the key to this task involved knowing that Hebrew is read from right to left. Once teams properly deciphered the message they could head onward to the main post office in the city of Jerusalem. Tom, Nathan, Jeff, and Sam all completed this task.
9. Heading to Sri Lanka in Leg 10, how many individual racers completed the shirt-sewing Road Block task?

Answer: Four

In this penultimate leg of the race, only four teams remained. Renae, Tyler, Matt, and Jeff all completed this task at the Trendy Connection Clothing Factory outside Colombo, Sri Lanka in which they were required to use provided fabric to sew together a shirt using sewing machines. Failure to properly sew the shirt would result in their restarting the task with a new bundle of cut fabric.

After they presented their shirt and got it approved, they could continue to the Pit Stop at Independence Square in Colombo.
10. In the final leg of the race, teams completed the last Road Block outside of Australia.

Answer: False

At Cape Peron outside of Perth, Australia, teams completed the final Road Block task recommending someone "who won't flag under pressure". Nathan, Sam, and Luke all stepped up to complete a task testing their memory of flags seen on the race. Once they placed all of the country flags in order chronologically (Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Africa, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Israel, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Australia) they would be able to go to the Finish Line at Heirisson Island in Perth.
