Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 10, teams made their way to Colombo, the capital city of what Asian country?

Answer: Sri Lanka

Departing from a Pit Stop overlooking the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, Israel in the dead of night, teams were told to head to the airport in order to hitch a ride to the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka across the Indian Ocean. While some teams took a dodgy connection through Rome, others took a lengthier connection through Amman, Jordan. Upon their arrival, teams needed to go to the Gangaramaya Temple in the city to receive a blessing from local religious men and to receive their next clue.
2. During the Detour task in Leg 10 (in Colombo) all four teams completed the same option: 'Carry'.

Answer: True

After receiving their blessings, teams needed to travel to St. John's Fish Market in the city of Colombo where they would participate in a fishy detour task. In 'Count', teams needed to go to a fish counting port of the market and count out the amount of fish in a single crate to receive their next clue. None of the teams did this.

Instead, teams completed 'Carry' in which they needed to transport fifteen large blocks of ice through the market to a specific stall using a small trolley. All four remaining teams did this task for their next clue.
3. In Leg 10, teams completed a task on the edge of the Indian Ocean involving locked chests. What were the combinations to open them?

Answer: Specific years

After the Detour, teams headed to the Fort Railway station to catch a train to Galle, Sri Lanka at southern tip of the island. Teams required third-class tickets to travel with and because Jeff and Luke took second-class tickets they were penalized ten minutes at the train station upon arriving in Galle. Teams then headed to Gold Fort where they needed to unlock two chests; the first required the year of sri Lanka's independence (1948) while the second required the birth year of D. S. Senanayake (1884). After this, teams took a bus to the town of Ambalangoda, thirty miles away, to locate a mask store.

Here, they needed to match an intricately-designed mask to a festival-goer to obtain their next clue.
4. For the Road Block in Leg 10, teams headed to a factory to make which of these?

Answer: A shirt

After the mask festival challenge, teams needed to take a taxi to Trendy Connection Clothing for a Road Block task asking the participating member "who can reap what they sew". Here, Renae, Tyler, Matt, and Jeff each needed to head inside to a sewing machine and properly sew a complete shirt together using the patterned garment pieces provided to them. If they screwed up, they could choose to use the same pieces or wipe their slate clean to start anew with new pieces.

When they had created a full shirt to the approval of the head seamstress they would receive their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 10?

Answer: Matt and Tom

After the Road Block, teams headed to the final Pit Stop at Independence Square in Colombo. Here, Sam and Renae and Tyler and Nathan were both required to take a twenty minute penalty for taking a private vehicle to a task, but this did not affect their placing. Sam and Renae placed first and their 'Marked for Elimination' statues became null and void. For their win, they received a $5,000 home entertainment unit from Bing Lee.

In the end it was Matt and Tom, who stumbled during a frustrating Road Block, who ended up placing last.

They became the final team eliminated from the race.
6. Before returning to Australia in the final leg of the race, teams were told to fly to which country in Asia?

Answer: Singapore

In Leg 11, the final leg of the race, teams headed out from Independence Square, their final Pit Stop in the morning to discover that they would be flying to the city of Singapore on the island of the same name. Once they touched down they would need to visit Goh Chor Tua Pek Kong Chinese Temple where an opera performance would be in progress.

In front of the stage they would need to choose a table and a pile of durians, then break them open to find one containing red innards. This could be traded for their Detour clue.
7. Which team is the odd one out in terms of the Detour choices made in Leg 11?

Answer: Jeff and Luke

The Detour choices in Leg 11 were 'Dare' and 'Stair'. For both, teams needed to go to Arena Bay Sands. For 'Dare', teams needed to ascend to the fifty-sixth floor of the hotel and cross a high-wire 200m above the ground. Both members needed to go from tower 1 to tower 2 and back before receiving their clue. Both Tyler and Nathan and Sam and Renae did this one.

In 'Stair', Jeff and Luke climbed the 56 floors worth of stairs in tower 1, descended them with a souvenir, then ascended tower 2 to get their clue. After the detour, teams needed to receive a five minute palm reading from a fortune teller at Hong San See Taoist Temple, then locate the Jurong Chinese Gardens for an additional clue box.
8. What was the final destination city of "The Amazing Race: Australia 1"?

Answer: Perth

For their final task in Singapore, teams headed to the Singapore Flyer to search the twenty-eight cabins of the ferris wheel, each containing a clue inside, for one of only three sending them back to Australia. Once they chose a cabin they would need to take the twenty minute ride back to the bottom to choose a new one.
When they found the right clue, teams raced back to Perth, Australia, the final destination city of this race, and they drove themselves to King's Park.
Their next major task in Australia took them to Fremantle Prison where they were handed a set of twelve keys and were told to open the cell doors of one particular wing (locking them on the way out) until they found one containing a clue.
9. The final Road Block of the race in Australia involved which of the following?

Answer: Flags of countries from the race

After finding a clue at Fremantle Prison, teams needed to drive to Cape Peron in Rockingham for a clue box containing the Road Block. For this final task, one member of each team needed to properly order the flags of the countries encountered on the race beginning and ending with Australia. Nathan, Sam, and Luke all completed this task ordering them chronologically (Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Africa, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Israel, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Australia).

After this task, the final clue was handed out.
10. Which team won "The Amazing Race: Australia" (season 1)?

Answer: Tyler and Nathan

After the Road block task, teams were told to drive to Finish Line on Heirisson Island in Perth, Western Australia. Here it was Tyler and Nathan who emerged victorious, landing on the finishing platform in first place and going home $250,000 richer. They also won the most legs in the race (with four including the final leg).

They were followed soon after by Sam and Renae in second place and Jeff in Luke in third. And so ends the first-ever "Amazing Race: Australia"!
