Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first leg of the race sent teams to the island of Lombok in which Southeast Asian nation?

Answer: Indonesia

Flying from Melbourne to Denpasar, eleven teams ended up making their way by ferry to the island of Lombok where they searched coastal villages, handed out bowls of soup in busy marketplaces, and joined in local war festivals. Towards the end of the leg, teams ended up racing toward the nearby Gili Islands, specifically Gili Trawangan where they had to count a briefcase full of Indonesian money and check into their first Pit Stop-- also a non-elimination point.
2. In Leg 2, teams visited Khải Định Tomb in Huế, Vietnam for which of the following tasks?

Answer: Road Block

During the second leg of the race, teams flew from Indonesia to Vietnam, stopping for a quick task in front of the Saigon Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City and then traveling quite the distance to the ancient city of Huế in the central reach of the country.

The Road Block for this leg had team members race between Khải Định Tomb and Minh Mang Tomb memorizing the chronological orders of regional currency. After this, they ended up checking in at Huế Citadel and Ryot and Liberty were the first team eliminated.
3. Teams visited the Venetian in Leg 3, but they did so in what city?

Answer: Macau

The third leg of the race took teams from Vietnam to Hong Kong for a few tasks (and the race's only Fast Forward) and then onward by ferry to the city of Macau, known for its casinos and nightlife. At this casino, teams had to don formal outfits and win ten games of baccarat to advance to their next destination, the A-Ma Cultural Village for an intense Road Block revolving around the Chinese Zodiac.

This Road Block was so difficult for teams that Sam and Renae used their Express Pass to complete it and Anne-Marie and Tracy, the second team to take a penalty for it, were eliminated.
4. The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa was the site of which rarely-seen race mechanic?

Answer: Intersection

Two legs of the race-- the fourth and the fifth-- took the teams to Port Elizabeth and Cape Town, South Africa for daring and exotic challenges. In one leg, teams took a safari in the Camdeboo and Addo Elephant National Parks and bungee jumped off the edge of Bloukrans Bridge.

The first also featured a U-Turn used against Richard and Joey, eliminating them from the race. The second leg included a skydive and some off-road sand dune hijinx in the Atlantis Sand Dunes. It also featured an Intersection, allowing teams to work together to deliver goods to the Intyatyambo Orphanage.

A second Intersection appeared in Leg 8.
5. In Leg 6, teams only stopped off in The Netherlands for which of these treats?

Answer: Appelbollen

Heading out from the Pit Stop at the Rhodes Memorial in Leg 6, the remaining seven teams ended up flying quite a ways northwest to the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, but surprisingly this was only for a single task-- they had to stop at a food cart on the canals of the city and eat two appelbollen, Danish pastries made with apples, each to get a clue sending them to Prague.

They would spend two legs of the race in the Czech Republic.
6. The seventh Pit Stop of the race was the Sedlec Ossuary, a chapel adorned with skeletons in what Czech city?

Answer: Kutná Hora

In the Czech Republic, teams performed all manner of tasks in Prague and the outlying cities. Amongst these, teams stopped off at Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, the Dancing House, and St. Nicolas Church. Toward the end of Leg 7, teams drove themselves to the city of Kutná Hora for a Road Block abseiling from the ceiling of the Church of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saint John the Baptist.

After this, teams stepped on the mat in the Sedlec Ossuary to discover that they would not be taking a mandatory twenty-four hour rest period; they had to keep racing.
7. How many teams ended up visiting the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland in Leg 8?

Answer: Six

Racing immediately from the seventh leg of the race in the Czech Republic, the final six teams took a train directly to Krakow, Poland, stopping off at the Wieliczka Salt Mine for their Road Block early on in the morning. There, in the mine shafts and constructed caverns, team members had to dig through carts of dirt and rock for keys to a locked safe.

This leg of the race also saw a tough Intersection at Cape Stylchen in which four team members had to use a tandem saw to slice pieces off a giant log.
8. Which team did not make it to the clue at The Winter Palace of King Herod in Masada, Israel?

Answer: Dave and Kelly

In Leg 9 and 10, the playing field narrowed from five to four as the teams flew from Krakow, Poland to Tel Aviv, Israel, sending themselves on a series of tasks stretching into Qumran, West Bank and towards the holy city of Jerusalem. The ninth Pit Stop of the race was found in Masada amongst the ruins overlooking the Dead Sea. Dave and Kelly, however, were unable to reach the Pit Stop in time after lagging behind during a Detour in Tel Aviv.

As such, Grant had to go out onto the course to eliminate them.

The first clue of Leg 10 was also found in Masada.
9. Arriving at the Galle Fort in Sri Lanka in Leg 11, teams needed to open which of these?

Answer: A safe

Racing into Colombo, Sri Lanka and then by train to the coastal city of Galle, teams found a bit of Route Info near the lighthouse in Fort Galle. There, teams had to determine the year of Sri Lankan independence to open a chest. This would lead them to another chest requiring the year of birth of the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

After this, they needed to take a bus northwest to the town of Ambalangoda on their way back to Colombo. Ultimately Matt and Tom fell back during the Road Block (in which they had to sew a shirt) and they were the last team eliminated.
10. In the final leg of the race, teams visited Singapore. How many clues sending teams back to Australia were found on the Singapore Flyer?

Answer: Three

While there were clues on all twenty-eight capsules of the Singapore Flyer, teams arrived and had to find one of three correct clue envelopes on the ride. If they didn't, they had to take the entire twenty minute ride around the wheel before choosing again.

This clue subsequently sent the final three teams to Perth, Australia where they raced to the finish line and the $250,000 prize. Ultimately, Nathan and Tyler were the first to arrive at the finish line on Heirisson Island, winning it all.
