Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the idol duo who are playing a concert when the Noise attack?

Answer: Zwei Wing

Zwei Wing are Tsubasa Kazanari and Kanade Amou. As well as fighting as a duo, they are also a musical duo. Hibiki Tachibana, the heroine of the series, goes to see them, and is present when the Noise attack. Tsubasa and Kanade fightback, but Kanade is forced into a difficult situation when she tries to protect Hibiki, and a stray piece of her armour gets lodged in Hibiki's body near her heart. Realising that she's in an impossible situation, Kanade sings her Swan Song; although a Swan Song is incredibly powerful, it can be fatal to Symphogear users who have trouble controlling their power, and Kanade dies as a result.
2. What is the name of Kanade's relic, which originally manifested as a spear, and which ends up in Hibiki's possession?

Answer: Gungnir

Hibiki finds out the hard way that a piece of Kanade's armour has fused with her body when she sings the musical chant she heard Kanade sing on the day of the gig, and she transforms into an armoured warrior. She tries to protect a child from the Noise, and the fragment within her body enables her to touch them without being killed. However, she has trouble using her power, as she isn't used to it, and Tsubasa has to save her. Throughout the series, the Gungnir fragment within Hibiki's body becomes more and more unstable; its behaviour can be likened to a tumour. It also can cause Hibiki to go berserk and become unable to tell friends from enemies.

If you're familiar with Norse myth, you might recall that Gungnir is the name of the god Odin's spear. Shenshou Jing, Airgetlám and Igalima are all relics which appear in the second series.
3. Which voice actress and real-life idol plays Tsubasa?

Answer: Nana Mizuki

Tsubasa has been a Symphogear user for many years, and is not at all happy about having to team up with the unexperienced Hibiki, who she sees as a poor replacement for Kanade. She fights with Ame no Habakiri, which commonly manifests as a katana, though she can use it in other ways such as summoning a giant sword to act as a barrier, or attaching blades to her motorbike. Her attacks and songs have a Japanese theme. Her uncle Genjuro (later revealed to be her half-brother) is commander of SONG, the organisation the Symphogear users work for.

Nana Mizuki's other voice roles include Hinata in 'Naruto', Rue in 'Princess Tutu' and Fate Testarossa in the 'Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha' series. She has also released several albums.
4. In the third episode, Tsubasa and Hibiki encounter Chris, an antagonist girl wearing the Nehushtan armour. However, it turns out that the armour is not Chris's real relic; her real relic is Ichaival, which manifests as ranged weapons. What theme do the names of Chris's attacks have in common?

Answer: Metal bands

Chris Yukine is half-German, half-Japanese. Her parents were killed in an explosion, and she was subsequently sold into slavery. It is implied that she was both physically and sexually abused by her captors. The UN rescued her and returned her to Japan, where Genjuro Kazanari took her in as a potential Symphogear candidate. However, she was kidnapped by the villainous Finé and forced to work for her. Her songs have a rock theme, and her attack names include Billion Maiden (after Iron Maiden), Giga Zeppelin (after Led Zeppelin) and Megadeth Quartet.

Tsubasa, Maria and Kirika are all Symphogear users who appear in the second series.
5. What phrase does Chris use to transform?

Answer: Kiliter Ichaival tron

Symphogear users transform by singing a phrase in a nonsense language that includes the name of their relic, and ends in either 'zillz' or 'tron'. 'Balwisyall nescell Gungnir tron' is Hibiki's transformation phrase, 'imyuteus Ame no Habakiri tron' is Tsubasa's, and 'croizall ronzell Gungnir zillz' is Kanade's.
6. Why does Miku get angry with Hibiki and break friends with her?

Answer: For constantly lying to her

Miku Kohinata is Hibiki's room mate and best friend, and is unaware of the fact that Hibiki is a Symphogear user, as SONG want Hibiki to keep her identity a secret. She gets increasingly fed up at Hibiki's excuses for not spending time with her, not knowing that Hibiki is usually on SONG business. Eventually, she accuses Hibiki of lying and keeping secrets, and the two have an argument. Miku goes for a walk, meets an exhausted Chris, and takes her in and looks after her. Later, Miku is in a shop when some Noise attack, and encounters Hibiki, who is being chased by another Noise. Miku warns her, using her mobile phone, that these Noise are attracted by loud noises and that Hibiki has to keep quiet. Miku apologises to Hibiki, and distracts the Noise by shouting, giving Hibiki time to transform.
7. Which member of staff at SONG is revealed to be the host for Finé?

Answer: Ryoko Sakurai

Ryoko Sakurai is the head scientist at SONG, and the creator of the Symphogear. She takes an obsessive interest in Hibiki, even creating a shrine of photos of her, after discovering that the Gungnir fragment has fused with Hibiki's body and made her a human/relic hybrid. It is later revealed that Finé erased Ryoko's original personality twelve years prior, and that most of Ryoko's behaviour is an act, though Finé's true personality - such as her inappropriately sexual behaviour towards Hibiki - sometimes pops out before the reveal. Before Finé dies, she speaks to Hibiki in Ryoko's voice.

The reveal about her being Finé was foreshadowed by her using a hexagonal barrier to protect Hibiki while transporting Durandal - a power which Finé also uses - and a close-up of blood on her laptop after the attack. She also has a similar haircut to Finé, though her hair is brown and Finé's is blonde.
8. To which Bibllical story does Finé allude when she explains why she wants to blow up the Moon?

Answer: The Tower of Babel

Finé is the reincarnation of an ancient Babylonian priestess. She claims that the Moon is a language-scrambling device put in place by G-d (to whom she refers as 'the Custodian'), and the only way to release humanity from the Curse of Babel - or Balal, as she calls it - is to destroy the Moon with Kadingir, a giant cannon.

She blames the Curse of Balal for humans fighting and killing each other, and wishes to rule the world after destroying the Moon. She has been working throughout history to destroy the Moon, and while possessing Ryoko Sakurai, she took advantage of SONG's research facilities and used governmental funding to create Kadingir, which was stored in the lift shaft at SONG's base.

She also kidnapped Chris, and punished her for her failures by restraining and electrocuting her.
9. What is the evolved version of the Symphogear which Chris, Tsubasa and Hibiki all gain near the end of the series?

Answer: X-Drive

The sonic power unleashed by Hibiki's classmates singing the school song enables her, Chris and Tsubasa to transform into a new mode called X-Drive, which is also the true form of the Symphogear armour. The armour gains additional white patches and becomes lighter in colour in Chris's case, turning from red to pink.

It gives the girls energy wings, which enable them to fly. They combine their powers to destroy the loose moon fragment and stop it falling to Earth.
10. Hibiki dies as a result of destroying the loose fragment of the Moon.

Answer: False

At the beginning of the series, Miku is shown crying over Hibiki's grave, implying that she dies at the end of the series. Hibiki is not buried in the grave, nor does the headstone have her name on it. However, when Miku encounters a group of Noise, Hibiki, Tsubasa and Chris appear and take them out, and are revealed to be alive.

It turns out that the three of them faked their deaths to avoid complications.
