Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before Minako Aino awakened as Sailor Venus, she was a crimefighting superheroine who worked with the local police force. What was her code name?

Answer: Sailor V

'Codename: Sailor V' was a prototype for 'Sailor Moon'; it had a blonde teenage heroine whose superhero outfit resembled a school uniform, had a connection to a planet, and who turned out to have been a princess in her past life before being reincarnated on Earth. Minako uses a magical pen to transform into Sailor V, and also has a magical compact which can be charged with moonlight.

She fights various enemies, often in the form of idols, from an organisation known as the Dark Agency, who turn out to be a front for the Dark Kingdom, the same baddies that she and the other Sailor Senshi would go on to fight in 'Sailor Moon'.
2. What is the name of Minako's cat-cum-sidekick?

Answer: Artemis

Artemis is a talking white cat with a crescent moon on his forehead, named after the Greek moon goddess, who gives Minako her pen and compact, and tells her she has a mission to protect the Earth. He accompanies Sailor Venus in 'Sailor Moon' and lives with the Aino family.

In the fourth arc, it is revealed that he and the other two cats have a human form; he turns into a handsome man with long white hair and gives Minako the Venus Crystal she needs to get her powers back. He is originally from the planet Mau, one of the many planets attacked by Sailor Galaxia. (Luna is Usagi Tsukino aka Sailor Moon's black cat, and Artemis' partner; they have a grey kitten called Diana in the future.)
3. Although Sailor Moon is later revealed to have been the Moon Princess the Dark Kingdom are searching for, Sailor Venus claims to be the Moon Princess when she first appears. Why is this?

Answer: She is trying to protect Sailor Moon from the Dark Kingdom.

Sailor Venus makes a dramatic entrance when she kills Zoisite with a boomerang. She claims to be the Moon Princess that Sailor Moon and the others are looking for. However, this is later revealed to be a lie when Tuxedo Mask is killed and Sailor Moon's memories of her past are triggered, and she turns into Princess Serenity, the real Moon Princess. Sailor Venus reveals her true identity and explains that she was pretending to be the Moon Princess as a decoy to protect Sailor Moon. (You'd think being called 'Sailor Moon' might be a giveaway as to who the Moon Princess is, but apparently not.)
4. True or false: Sailor Venus kills Queen Beryl in the manga.

Answer: Yes

In the past, Queen Beryl of the Dark Kingdom killed Prince Endymion (Tuxedo Mask's past self), and Princess Serenity killed herself in grief. In revenge, Sailor Venus stabbed Beryl to death with the Holy Blade. History repeats itself when Sailor Venus kills her again in the present while Beryl is attempting to strangle Sailor Moon to death with her hair. Sailor Jupiter also uses the sword to cut Sailor Moon free. 'Sailor Moon Crystal', the second anime adaptation, changed this slightly by having Sailor Moon kill Beryl instead.
5. In the second arc, the 'Black Moon' arc, the Ayakashi Sisters attempt to kidnap Chibiusa with various plans, but are foiled each time. Each of them is an evil counterpart of one of the Sailor Senshi, and Calaveras is Sailor Venus' counterpart. How did she try to capture Sailor Venus?

Answer: By summoning the spirits of the dead Ayakashi sisters to attack her

The Ayakashi sisters are Cooan, Berthier, Calaveras and Petz, and they are all named after minerals. Cooan is a fortune teller who captures Sailor Mars in a fire barrier; Berthier is a dowser who traps Sailor Mercury by making dirty water spring out of a sewer and surround her; and Petz spreads disease, creates crop circles and traps Sailor Jupiter in a wind pocket. Each time, Sailor Moon kills the Ayakashi Sister responsible, but Rubeus runs off with each Senshi; however, he is injured when he comes for Sailor Venus, and she is the only Senshi left behind. Calaveras is a medium who channels the spirits of her dead sisters through three members of the audience and orders them to attack Sailor Venus, but Sailor Moon kills her.
6. Each Sailor Senshi has a list of hobbies and interests, likes and dislikes, and so on associated with her. What is Minako's hobby?

Answer: Chasing after idols

Minako is a huge fan of idol groups, and Artemis even calls her an 'oikake' (idol chaser). In the third arc, the Infinity arc, Mimete - Sailor Venus' evil counterpart in the Witches 5 - poses as an idol and Minako attends one of her concerts disguised as a male Infinity Academy student, and while trapped in an illusion, she is invited to appear in a concert with Mimete.

In the fourth arc, she goes to a fake idol audition set up by the Dead Moon Circus, in an attempt to prove she can cope without her powers.

She is also a keen gamer and volleyball player. As for the other answers, Michiru Kaioh (Sailor Neptune) is the violinist, Hotaru Tomoe (Sailor Saturn) collects lights and Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury) is the reader. (In the live action version of 'Sailor Moon', 'Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon', Minako was an actual idol rather than a wannabe one.)
7. What is the name of Sailor Venus' new attack in the third manga arc?

Answer: Venus Wink Chain Sword

Sailor Venus first uses this attack against a daimon attacking a child, where she creates a sword with the chain she wears round her waist. The links of the chain are shaped like hearts. It is one of the only attacks which only appears in the manga and not the original anime, along with Venus Rolling Heart Vibration, her first attack (the anime substituted Crescent Beam, which was actually an attack from 'Codename: Sailor V'). Venus Love Me Chain is her first attack with the chain, and it is upgraded into the Love Whip in the final arc for Venus Love and Beauty Shock.

When Sailor Venus is resurrected as one of Sailor Galaxia's brainwashed minions, the attack is called Venus Love and Galaxia Shock, and the chain links are shaped like tiny galaxies instead of roses.

The chain is a reference to the element of metal, one of the five traditional Chinese elements; Sailor Mercury represents water, Sailor Mars fire, and Sailor Jupiter wood.
8. Which best describes Minako's family situation?

Answer: She lives with her mum and dad.

Minako and Usagi are the only Sailor Senshi with 'normal' home situations. Both of them live with their parents, although unlike Usagi, Minako is an only child. She lists her mother as one of her dislikes. Rei Hino (Sailor Mars) lives with her grandfather, as her mother is dead and she is estranged from her politician father. Ami's parents are divorced and she lives with her mum, while Makoto Kino (Sailor Jupiter) is an orphan, her parents having died in a plane crash. Hotaru lives with her father, the mad Professor Tomoe, and is adopted by the Outer Senshi after her father dies and she turns into a baby.

The family circumstances of Haruka Tenoh (Sailor Uranus), Michiru Kaioh and Setsuna Meioh (Sailor Pluto) are unknown.
9. Which Dead Moon Circus member(s) does Minako encounter in the fourth manga arc, in the chapter 'Venus Dream'?

Answer: Xenotime and Zeolite

Like many other bad guys throughout the manga, the Amazon Trio and fellow performers Xenotime and Zeolite are evil counterparts of the Sailor Senshi. Each of them encounters a Sailor Senshi and tries to trap her in an illusion, only for her to get her power back and defeat him. Hawk's Eye, Tiger's Eye and Fisheye - the evil counterparts of Sailors Jupiter, Mars and Mercury respectively - are a hawk, a tiger and a fish who have been turned into humans. Minako is the last to get her powers back and is feeling rather sore about it as the leader of the Inner Senshi, and decides to enter the Dead Moon Circus' idol audition, knowing full well it's a trap. Xenotime and Zeolite are humanoid knife throwers in the circus and try to brainwash Minako into stealing the Silver Crystal, but Artemis snaps her out of it by scratching her face.

He nearly gets crushed by a rock, but turns into his human form and gives Minako the Venus Crystal, enabling her to turn into Super Sailor Venus, and she kills Xenotime and Zeolite.
10. How does Sailor Venus die in the final arc?

Answer: Sailor Galaxia steals her Star Seed.

In the anime, Sailor Venus lasts until near the end of the arc when she and the other Inner Senshi die protecting Sailor Moon from Sailor Galaxia. However, Naoko Takeuchi did not pull any punches in the Stars arc. Mamoru is killed in the first chapter, Sailors Mercury and Sailors Jupiter in the second, and Sailors Mars and Venus in the third.

They both encounter Sailor Lead Crow, an evil Sailor Senshi who killed the guardian of her home planet, Coronis, which is also the home of Phobos and Deimos, Rei's crows. Though Sailor Moon kills Sailor Lead Crow before she can harm Sailor Venus or Sailor Mars, her victory is shortlived when Sailor Galaxia shows up, steals the two Senshi's Star Seeds and vaporises them.

The Outer Senshi are killed off one by one by Sailor Galaxia soon after. Sailor Venus, along with the other dead Sailor Senshi, are resurrected as brainwashed slaves wearing Sailor Galaxia's bracelets, and take it in turns to attack Sailor Moon and her allies. Sailor Venus is the last to attack her and makes fun of her, saying her attack feels like a gentle breeze. Sailor Moon is forced to kill all the brainwashed Senshi, though they are all resurrected at the end of the manga.
