Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was convicted in 1997 for possession of marijuana. Despite this being a fairly minor crime in comparison to some of my fellow inmates, it was my third conviction, so I was given life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, under the Three Strikes law. Who am I?

Answer: Scott Ross

Scott Ross is a biker, and also integrates well with the members of the Aryan Brotherhood, due to his longstanding friendship with Vern Schillinger. He also knows correctional officer Dianne Whittlesey, as her ex-husband rode in the same biker gang as Scott.

After convincing Dianne to smuggle contraband cigarettes into the prison, Scott becomes threatening when she wants to stop the agreement. During the riot, Dianne takes the opportunity to shoot Scott, in the head, heart, and groin. Due to Scott's unpleasant nature, the warden is not particularly willing to dig too deeply into the circumstances surrounding his death.
2. I was committed to a mental institute for ten years after killing my family. I was released, seemingly a reformed man. I then committed the same crime again, killing my remaining family. Who am I?

Answer: Mark Miles

There is a suggestion that Mark is a bigamist, as he kills his wife and children, then does the same thing after his release from the institution. After killing his wife and children the second time, Mark is sentenced to death. A racist man, Mark spends much of his time on death row arguing with his black neighbour, Moses Deyell. Moses eventually tires of the constant abuse, and manages to break through the dividing wall between the cells, and murder Mark.
3. I am a member of the Yorube people, and when a child in my community became ill, I tried my best to save him using our traditional medicines and rituals. When the American paramedics arrived, I refused to let them in. When the child died, I was given a 20 year sentence for criminally negligent homicide. Who am I?

Kipekemie helps Adebisi to get in touch with his African roots, acting like a father figure to him, and becomng the only person Adebisi is seen to show affection for. Kipekemie is stabbed by Kenny Wangler, at the order of Antonio Nappa, and he dies in Adebisi's arms.
4. I was convicted in 1996 after leaving my newborn baby in a dumpster. Initially sentenced to twelve years, I was later sent to death row after an arrest for conspiracy to commit murder. Who am I?

Answer: Timmy Kirk

Timmy is a background character for the first three series, becoming more central to the storyline in Season 4. He is a Catholic, and an altar boy for Father Mukada, until he converts to Protestantism under the influence of Reverend Cloutier. This causes a rift between Mukada and Cloutier. When Timmy is ostracised by the Reverend Cloutier as punishment for his violence towards prisoners who do not share his faith, he has the Reverend bricked up inside a wall, and left to die. He also arranges for Father Mukada's church to be burned down, with some priests still inside.

Whilst on death row, Timmy appears to believe that he has been possessed by Satan, though this may be an act. He also falsely accuses Father Mukada of sexually assaulting him. He is murdered by fellow death row inmate, Jaz Hoyt, who electrocutes Timmy with a lamp during a photoshoot.
5. Whilst out jogging, I witnessed a man attempting to rape a woman in a nearby park. I rushed to her aid, and beat her attacker almost to death, resulting in my conviction for aggravated assault. Who am I?

Hamid Khan is a devout Muslim, and initially a follower of Karim Said, though he later challenges a number of Karim's decisions. He briefly takes over leadership of the Muslims during Karim's ostracism after his relationship with Tricia Ross.

Hamid is a large, strong man, and the natural choice to represent the Muslims during the prison's boxing tournament. He makes his way to the final match, where he has to fight Cyril O'Reilly. A blow to the head leaves Hamid brain-damaged and on life support. His wife successfully sues the prison to obtain the rights to turn the machine off, allowing Hamid to die.

Hamid Khan is played by Ernie Hudson Jr, the real-life son of Ernie Hudson, who plays prison head, Warden Leo Glynn.
6. I disguised myself as a reporter and entered the prison under the pretense of interviewing Karim Said. As Karim reached out to shake my hand, I pulled out a gun and shot him twice in the chest. I later killed another inmate in an attempt to be sent to death row. Who am I?

Answer: Lemuel Idzik

Many years earlier, Lemuel had met Karim Said in a cafe, and the two had chatted. Karim had spoken about the inevitability of the universe coming to an end. For Karim, it was a passing conversation, but Lemuel was haunted by this prospect, and the idea that nothing had any meaning. After being convicted, Lemuel is offered the protection of the Aryan Brotherhood, until they discover that he is Jewish. He asks to be sent to Emerald City in the hopes that someone will murder him.

Unable to commit suicide, Lemuel murders fellow inmate, Omar White, hoping that he will receive the death penalty. He does get his wish, but the sentence is overturned, and commuted to life imprisonment. Lemuel is one of the prisoners seen on the evacuation bus at the end of the final episode.
7. I was initially hired as a correctional officer in the prison, wanting to follow in my late father's footsteps, but I found it difficult to get respect from the prisoners. After being fired, I gave a gun to one of the inmates. Later, I made a failed assassination attempt on Governor Devlin. During my incarceration, I murdered another inmate, and former police officer, leading to my relocation to solitary confinement. Who am I?

Answer: Clayton Hughes

Clayton's father, Samuel, began working as a CO at the same time as Leo Glynn. Samuel was killed during an altercation in the cafeteria, and died in Leo's arms - an event Leo never forgave himself for. When Clayton applies to work in Oz, Leo agrees if only to keep an eye on him. Clayton soon proves himself to be incompetant in his job, and is eventually fired by Leo. Before leaving, Clayton is manipulated by Simon Adebisi into thinking that the two of them share a bond. He convinces Clayton that white men are responsible for the great losses in both their lives, and that African Americans should band together over their common adversities. This leads to Clayton leaving a gun in Adebisi's cell as he leaves the prison.

After being fired, Clayton becomes obsessed with Governor James Devlin, who he sees as a scapegoat for all white officials. After a failed assassination attempt, Clayton is convicted and sent to Unit J, the unit reserved for former police officers. Joining him in Unit J is Johnny Basil, a former officer working undercover in the prison, who ended up killing another inmate. Clayton sees Johnny, a fellow African American, as a traitor - he sides in an argument with a white inmate. Clayton murders Johnny, and is sent to solitary confinement.

Whilst in solitary, Clayton manages to incapacitate a CO, and gain control of the unit. He is extremely delusional by this point, and believes himself to be the head of an African state. After Leo tries to diffuse the situation, Clayton tries to kill him too, but is attacked and mortally wounded by another inmate. He dies in Leo's arms, just as his father had done.

He knew Augustus Hill years previously, and gave the police Augustus' details in return for leniency on another arrest. This information leads to the the incident where Augustus kills a police officer and gets paralysed, so he is understandably furious at Supreme.

Supreme is framed by Chris Keller and Ryan O'Reilly for the deaths of Mondo Browne and Nate Shemin, and is sent to solitary confinement. He is later released back to Emerald City due to a lack of evidence. He is eventually murdered by Augustus Hill, who sneaks eggs into Supreme's food, knowing he is allergic. He dies in the cafeteria, due to anaphylaxis.

Jefferson is the leader of the Homeboys in Emerald City, and is known for being cold and calculating. His brother Billie is also an inmate, but Jefferson is ashamed of Billie's open homosexuality. After Billie is beaten by Dino Ortolani, a war begins between the Homeboys and the Italians. As this escalates, Jefferson realises that more and more people are dying on both sides, and he doesn't want to be a part of it any more.

With Karim Said's help, Jefferson turns his life around and converts to Islam, taking on the name Tizi Ozuo. In an attempt to get in the Italians' good books, Ryan O'Reilly arranges for two Latino inmates to be left alone with Jefferson and kill him, but the plan backfires when Jefferson fights back and kills one of the Latinos. He is sentenced to death - the first inmate to be killed since Governor Devlin reinstated the death penalty. Whilst on death row, Jefferson donates a kidney to his sister, Grace.

Jefferson returns posthumously to narrate an episode in Season six.
10. I was a contractor on the outside. I built an apartment complex that collapsed and killed some people, but it wasn't my fault. Who am I?

Answer: Ralph Galino

Ralph is brought to Oz at the same time as Guillaume Tarrant. He tells everyone who will listen that he was a contractor, and that the building collapse wasn't his fault. He is approached by Chucky Pancamo shortly after his arrival, but manages to insult him by criticising the mafia. Chucky makes it clear to the other inmates that there will be no repercussions from the Italians if Ralph were to die.

Ralph's most notable contribution was bringing in the cellphone which sparks the war between Ryan O'Reilly and Nikolai Stanislofsky. He inadvertently brings the phone into prison, and allows Nikolai to "hand it in to the authorities" so that he won't get in trouble. After Ralph discovers that he has been manipulated, he demands the phone back. Nikolai responds by paying Jaz Hoyt to kill Ralph, which he does by injecting heroin into Ralph's tongue. Ralph's death goes on record as an accidental overdose.
11. I took a gun into my school. Whilst showing it to my friend, I accidentally shot it through the ceiling, killing a female student as she walked to class on the floor above. Whilst in prison, I stabbed a biker in the neck. Who am I?

Answer: Pablo Rosa

Pablo is probably one of the youngest inmates in the prison, along with Kenny Wangler. He comes to the attention of librarian Stella Coffo, after he uses a book as a weapon. She helps him to read and enjoy books in order to keep him out of trouble, and help make the time pass.

When Bob Rebadow is rude to Stella, Pablo jumps to her defence. Though he seems to be making progress, he attacks a biker who calls him a fag, ending with him being sent to the Hole. Though he is not allowed a book inside the Hole, Stella sits outside and reads aloud to him.
12. A racist to the core, I was convicted for murdering a black man by dragging him behind my pickup truck. Who am I?

Answer: Andrew Schillinger

Andrew is the son of Aryan Brotherhood leader, Vern Schillinger. Like his brother Hank, Andrew is a heroin addict, a fact which angers drug-hating Vern. Tobias Beecher and Chris Keller exact revenge on Vern for his past actions by befriending Andrew and helping him beat his addiction - the one thing Vern couldn't do. Fearing that Andrew is going to be made into a 'prag' by Beecher and Keller, Vern starts a fight with Andrew, resulting in Andrew being taken to the Hole. Realising that Andrew is lost to him forever, Vern pays a guard to leave a large quantity of heroin with Andrew, and he dies of an overdose.

Andrew and his brother Hank later posthumously narrate an episode in Season 6.
13. I was incarcerated for armed robbery, but I committed a far more heinous crime. I murdered an entire family in their beds, including an elderly grandmother and a young child. I would have gotten away with it if I hadn't been bragging about it. Who am I?

Answer: Malcolm Coyle

Malcolm Coyle is brought to Oz for armed robbery, and is assigned to work in the barber shop. While shaving Augustus Hill, he brags about how he and a friend raped and murdered their way through an entire family. He claims that there is even a videotape documenting his claims. He states that he committed the crime just for fun. Augustus is horrified by this, and unable to live with himself, he tells the Warden what he has discovered, and Malcolm is moved to death row.

Malcolm's friends, Kenny Wangler and Junior Pierce, vow to get revenge on Augustus, but he is protected by the Muslims, the Latinos, the Italians, and even the Aryans, all of whom are disgusted by Malcolm's crime. Antonio Nappa, leader of the Italian inmates, also arranges for Malcolm to be murdered in his cell.
14. I was protesting against the death penalty, when I became involved in an altercation. I ended up being convicted for assaulting a police officer. Who am I?

Answer: Daniel Meehan

Father Daniel Meehan is a Catholic priest who joins in the protests outside the prison. Sister Peter Marie is involved in the first protest, and she also becomes involved in a fight, though not with a police officer. Father Meehan is assigned to be Ryan O'Reilly's cellmate. Father Meehan is a soft-spoken, gentle man, who tries his best to help Ryan, and convince him to pray with him. Ryan rejects his offer of friendship, though he does seem to be at ease around him.

Father Meehan dies of an aneurysm during the night, and is found by Ryan. After his death, Ryan realises how much Father Meehan tried to help him, and he asks for permission to wash the body, as a sign of respect and affection. Father Meehan is one of the only good, kind people in the prison, so his death is especially sad.
15. I killed both my parents with a hammer. I ate my mother, and saved my father's body to eat later. Whilst in prison, I killed a guard during my attempt on the Warden's life. Who am I?

Answer: Donald Groves

Donald Groves is a softly-spoken psychopath, and despite his horrific crimes, he seems fairly calm and friendly. He is caught sneaking into the morgue on more than one occasion, due to his fascination with death, and he converts to Catholicism because he enjoys the idea of eating and drinking the flesh and blood of Christ.

Seemingly on a whim, Donald decides that he has to kill Warden Leo Glynn. A guard, Lawrence Smith, protects Leo, and ends up being killed himself. Donald is sentenced to death row, and is beaten badly by the guards. He is visited on death row by Lawrence's mother, who forgives him. He asks to be killed by firing squad, and asks Father Mukada to record his last words and pass them to Mrs Smith. Father Mukada tries to do this, but there is an issue with the speaker on the outside of the execution chamber, and Donald's last words are lost forever.
