Slowly his eyesight would fade away before going completely blind.

Brian went to help with the building of the school much to Loren's annoyance. Brian began rubbing his head after taking off his hat. Loren dropped the eraser and asked Brian to pick it up but Brian in a panic began asking for Loren. Realizing that the boy couldn't see him or anything he picked up the boy and ran him back to town.

During the quilting circle Michaela suggested a town portrait and Mr. Watkins asked who would be in it? Olive said, "Just the leading citizens." Jake and others thought no Indians and no immigrants. But eventually the entire town: citizens, immigrants and Indians joined the portrait.

When the St. Louis stage was being diverted due to weather it was said the doctor wouldn't get to Colorado Springs in time. So Dr. Mike had no other choice but to do it herself. Colleen without hesitation said she'd get the operating room ready but Dr. Mike said, "No family." Olive took care of Colleen. So that left the Reverend, Jake and Grace assisted Michaela in a long operation.

Finally Hank admitted to the town Zach was his son. It wasn't until that night Zach gave Hank a drawing of Zach's mother causing a few tears to come out of Hank. Hank showed the drawing to Michaela and it was decided Zach would go to the art school in Denver.

Michaela, Sully, Matthew and Colleen were sleeping in Brian's clinic room following the operation. Michaela happened to stir and saw Brian's bed empty and ran after him calling out his name. She found him on the little bridge going to church. She finally caught up to him and he smiled at her, "Look Ma, schoolhouse!"
