Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Al Swearengen. Calamity Jane. Cy Tolliver.

Answer: Deadwood

"Deadwood" brought to life many of the actual people of that post-Civil War South Dakota town. Al Swearengen, aptly surnamed for his foul if florid speech, was an actual bar owner. While the other bar owner, Cy Tolliver, was not an actual person, Calamity Jane was. A hit with audiences and critics alike, "Deadwood" was mysteriously cancelled after only three seasons.
2. Very early educational show. Walter Cronkite hosted. History reenactments.

Answer: You Are There

"You Are There" used actual news reporters to describe true historical events as though they were happening in front of you. With Walter Cronkite at the helm and actors like James Dean (in a Jesse James segment) and Paul Newman as Brutus in a Julius Caesar assignation show, this brilliant show introduced more than one 1950s child and parents to history in an engaging way.
3. Diana Prince. Bracelets that deflect bullets. Stars and stripes costume.

Answer: Wonder Woman

Diana Prince is Wonder Woman in this 1975 - 1979 tale of an Amazon super woman
She rescued a man in the Bermuda Triangle, accompanying him back to the USA. She then created a Captain America-like costume that included bracelets that could protect her from the baddies' bullets.
4. Hawkeye. Hot Lips. Henry Blake.

Answer: M*A*S*H

"M*A*S*H" ran from 1972 to 1983 and garnered an astonishing 100 Emmy awards. It was derived from the recent movie of the same name. Benjamin"Hawkeye" Pierce was the main source of commentary on the hospital, patients and the Korean war. One Margaret "Hot Lips" Hoolihan was an army brat turned head nurse in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital.

She was both an object of lust and a respected colleague for the roguish surgeons. Henry Blake, the show's first commander died on his way home to the sorrow of his crew and audiences both.
5. First Bob Saget. Then Tom Bergeron. Dogs, cats, kids, pratfalls.

Answer: America's Funniest Home Videos

"America's Funniest Home Videos" or "AFHV" is still going after 25 years! Starting in 1990, with Bob Saget hosting, "AFHV" depends on people sending in the most embarrassing moments of their family members, including kids, adults, teens and the ubiquitous animals.

It has spun-off many shows but none so far have the longevity of the original. Tom Bergeron took over in 2001 and hosted for 14 years.
6. Matricide minded kid. Talking dog. Politically incorrect.

Answer: Family Guy

Starting in 1999, we've been variously entertained and appalled by "Family Guy" and the Griffin family. Stewie, the baby who longs to kill his mother and rule the world and his closest family member Brian the talking dog manage to get into one odd incident after another, usually with much singing and dancing.

They and Peter, Meg, Chris and Lois voice things a lot of people think but never say. There is no PC element on "Family Guy" according to creator and voice actor Seth McFarlane.
7. English King. Six wives. Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Answer: The Tudors

"The Tudors" really only chronicles Henry the Eighth's reign in 16th century England. It most often rests on Henry's quest for a legitimate male heir. Henry is played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. In the early portion of this Showtime production, Rhys Meyers does a credible job of portraying a man remembered as "the most beautiful Prince in Christendom." But by the end, his physical appearance doesn't match the bloated, sickened tyrant of history.

His six wives are played to perfection by various fine actresses. Especially memorable is Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn.

Her craftiness and tragic ending were spot on. The script didn't adhere religiously to history but it was close.
8. Norwegian raiders. Bjorn IronSides. Paid off by the French.

Answer: Vikings

"Vikings" brings us Ragnar Lothbrok in all his clever, handsome, Northman glory. His son, Bjorn Ironside, looks to be a chip off the old block, though maybe a bit steadier if less imaginative. Ragnar and his associates accepted Danegeld from Charles the Bald in 845 A.D. to go away.

The Danegeld was paid for 13 years. "Vikings" made it seem as though Ragnar was actually defeated at the gates of Paris by his own brother, Rollo. There was no Rollo and no defeat in reality.
9. Early childrens' show. Toothy dragon and clown. Moralistic teacher.

Answer: Kukla, Fran and Ollie

From 1947 till the advent of the "Howdy Doody" show, "Kukla, Fran and Ollie" ruled the kiddies' airwaves. Kukla the clown, Ollie the waggle-toothed dragon and Fran Allison, the kindly but straight-as-an-arrow sole human employed humor, role playing and fun to convey lessons about behaving well to American kids.
10. Forensic anthropology. Temperance Brennen. Hodgins the entomologist.

Answer: Bones

"Bones" is a crime solving series based on forensic science, primarily anthropology, and is set in Washington D.C. and first aired in 1995 in the USA. Dr. Temperance Brennan is the focus of the show and she works with FBI agent Seeley Booth. Jack Hodgins is the entomologist on "Bones".
