Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How old is Katherine Howard when we see her in episode 1, after she and Henry are married?

Answer: 17

We find out her age when Henry is talking with the French ambassador. Looks like someone is having a midlife crisis!
2. Who says this? "All those things belong to the king."

Answer: Richard Rich

He says this to Thomas Culpepper after Thomas Culpepper challenges the other grooms to imagine Katherine Howard naked and lists her physical attributes.

Thomas Culpepper is quite a cad as he then goes and rapes the wife of a park keeper, kills her husband and starts an affair with Lady Rochford.
3. How does Katherine Howard get back at Lady Mary for her attitude towards her?

Answer: She sends away two of Mary's ladies in waiting.

Mary is upset by this and plans to leave court and return to one of her manors. Chapuys, the Imperial Ambassador, comforts her.
4. Which man from Katherine Howard's past comes to court looking for a position?

Answer: Francis Dereham

What an idiotic move on his part. He would have been better off staying far far away from Katherine.

William Compton was a friend of Henry's. He dies in season 1 from the sweating sickness.

Edward Stafford was the Duke of Buckingham. He is executed in season 1.

Henry Howard is a relative of Katherine's who returns to England this season.
5. What is the last thing Katherine Howard says before laying her head on the executioner's block?

Answer: "Life is very beautiful"

She did say the line about wanting to die Culpepper's wife BEFORE she knelt on the scaffold. The crowd was quite shocked by her words. She looked up at the sky and said "Life is very beautiful" right before laying her head on the block, which was still dripping with Lady Rochford's blood.

Poor girl, she really had no idea what she got herself into!
6. Does Henry take a mistress after Katherine is found guilty and condemned for adultery?

Answer: No

However, he does throw a lavish banquet attended only by numerous young and pretty women.
7. Who watches the burning of Anne Askew?

Answer: Countess of Hertford (Edward Seymour's wife)

Anne Askew was burned at the stake for her Protestant beliefs and preaching. The countess paid the executioner to put a sack of gunpowder around Anne Askew's neck. She shared Anne's beliefs so this was an act of sympathy and mercy. It would let Anne die more quickly rather than burning alive in agony.

Sir Richard Rich was present when Anne was being tortured on the rack and even turns it himself when the person in charge refuses to continue. What a snake! In season 3, he was originally allies with Cromwell and SUPPORTED Protestant reforms.

Bishop Gardiner questioned Anne, but did not watch her execution.
8. Is Katherine Parr arrested in the final episode?

Answer: No

She narrowly escapes arrest. One of her faithful servants gets her hands on the arrest warrant and shows it to Katherine. She is able to speak with the king and cleverly wins him over by saying that she is only a woman and debated with him so she could learn from his wisdom and distract him from the discomfort in his leg.

He doesn't reverse the arrest warrant however. When the Chancellor arrives with guards to arrest her, Henry flips out and sends him away. Katherine seems really unsettled, but relieved to escape with her life and the King's favor. I personally wondered if he did this all for show, never really intending to punish Katherine.
9. Which of Henry's wives appear to him in the final episode?

Answer: Katherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour

His first three wives appear to him and really let him have it! As he feels his end coming closer he has flashbacks of his life, including his wives.
10. Henry dies in his bed in the final episode.

Answer: False

We do not actually see his death on screen. The final scene shows him looking at the portrait Hans Holbein painted of him. This is the famous portrait that many of us have probably seen in history books. Henry is satisfied with the portrait and walks away. We then see an epilogue explaining what happened after Henry VIII's death.
