Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anne and Henry are back and hotter than ever in season two. Henry is still so much in love with Anne that at her insistence, he finally sends his wife Katherine away. What does Henry insist she return to him before she departs?

Answer: her jewels

Katherin doesn't return them immediately and Henry eventually has to send Charles to retrieve them from her exile at The Mores. Henry presents them to Anne on the eve of their trip to France and she is overwhelmed. He promises to have them reset for Anne as they are the official jewels of an English queen.
2. Season one ended in the demise of Cardinal Wolsey. Who does Henry chose as the Cardinal's replacement?

Answer: Thomas Cranmer

Cranmer is a young man and according to the Vatican, "a nobody". The Pope approves the appointment of Cranmer to Cardinal at Henry's request. Little does the Pope realize that Cranmer is really under the spell of Anne, Henry and their cause. He starts to actively push for the dissolution of Henry's marriage to Katherine to make way for his new bride, Anne.

Although Cardinal Cranmer doesn't necessarily agree with Henry throughout the series, as evident towards the end, he does admire Anne and is with her to hear her last confession on the eve of her execution.
3. Does Thomas More's family take the Oath?

Answer: Yes

More cannot bring himself to renounce the church and is willing to accept martyrdom. His family however does take the Oath and encourages him to do the same - they don't believe in the Oath but are willing to swear to it to preserve their lives. More doesn't disapprove of others who take the Oath out of self preservation but he will not betray his own conscience.

More is eventually imprisoned in the Tower and later tried. His biggest fear is being tortured before death and his original sentence does involve him being drawn, quartered and eventually disemboweled.

However, Henry shows mercy on his old friend and advisor and More is beheaded instead. He death is a true tragedy and even King Henry, strong in his resolve against the Catholic church, is deeply affected by More's execution.
4. Queen Anne finds herself with child many times in season two but she fears that the King's attention will fall to other women while she is in dispose. Which lady in waiting does Anne encourage to the King's bed?

Answer: Madge

Madge is a lovable but somewhat dim lady in waiting. She is giddy and simple and probably pretty inexperienced. When Anne suggests that she become Henry's lover, immediately she is unsure of what to do, but at the Queen's encouragement, she agrees. Madge and Henry go riding together one day and when they stop for lunch, Henry seduces Madge. While it certainly does not please Anne to think of her husband with another woman, at least Madge is someone Anne can easily control.

I found it funny how in season one, Anne was really the driving force behind Henry's separation from his wife, Katherine. Anne was the temptress with driving ambition and few scruples. But in season two I started to see Anne as a victim. She truly loves the King but she starts to experience the same pain and betrayal that Katherine was forced to endure in season one.
5. On her deathbed, who does Katherine think she sees?

Answer: her daughter, Mary

Katherine is so ill she starts to hallucinate. She calls out to her daughter Mary but she isn't really there. In fact, Mary hasn't seen her mother in years. Mary was a little girl when Katherine was banished from court and Henry forbid the two from writing or visiting each other.

After Katherine passes away, Anne is notified of the news and is overjoyed. But the Spanish Ambassador learns that Katherine's death may have been a result of poison. Later, Anne and her brother George speak privately and hint to the fact that they were in fact responsible for Katherine's death.
6. With the Queen pregnant again, Henry turns his attention to Lady Jane Seymour. He offers her many gifts and purses, most of which she refuses. What one gift does she accept?

Answer: locket

Similar to the locket Anne gave to Henry during their courtship, this locket is gold with a large blue stone in the center. When opened, the locket has a portrait of Henry in it. Jane cherishes this gift but foolishly wears it in front of Queen Anne, who notices it immediately. Anne rips the locket from Jane's neck and throws it to the floor. Later, Madge retrieves the discarded locket and returns it to a grateful Jane.
7. After Anne miscarries their son, Henry realizes he has been seduced by witchcraft from his wife. He tells Cromwell to start investigating alleged crimes against Anne. Who is the first to be arrested?

Answer: Mark Smeaton

Mark is Anne's favorite musician and he is often seen in Anne's quarters, either playing his violin or just amusing the Queen. We never see any inappropriate behavior but the Queen's ladies see every affectionate kiss on the cheek or flirtatious laugh as a potential indiscretion.

When Smeaton is arrested by Cromwell, he is mercilessly tortured. Originally he denies any wrongdoing but the human spirit can only take so much and soon he confesses to crimes of adultery with the Queen. Cromwell's investigation turns up all sorts of alleged inappropriate behavior, the worst being an incestuous relationship between Anne and her brother George. Eventually, several men and Anne are arrested and sent to the Tower.
8. Does Thomas Boleyn watch his son, George, die?

Answer: No

Thomas is eventually imprisoned in the Tower as well, though not accused of any salacious crime with his daughter. George is beheaded in the courtyard of the Tower and Anne watches from her own prison window. However, her cowardly and dispassionate father does not.

He can hear Anne's cries of sorrow in his cell and yet shows no sign of remorse or compassion for either of his children. Did he even realize that it was his own blind ambition that put these events into motion? Well anyway, after George's death, Charles comes into Thomas' cell and tells him that he is to be released. Thomas is so selfish that he gladly leaves the Tower and barely acknowledges his daughter Anne, who waves at him from her window.
9. Where is Anne's executioner from?

Answer: Calais

Anne requests a French executioner. Initially the executioner is late and Anne's death is postponed twice. When he finally does arrive, she meets her end with dignity and grace. Interestingly, a French execution is much different than an English one.

The English method involves the condemned to lay his head on a block of wood and is decapitated by a heavy axe. The French method allows the condemned to kneel upright and the blow comes from a long sword. Anne's final moments are touching and beautiful. Visit www.tudorhistory.com for a verbatim of her final speech. "The Tudors" series did a wonderful job of staying true to the historical events.
10. Not including the prayers Anne is saying to herself, what are her final words?

Answer: Thank you.

The axeman adjusts a wisp of her hair so that it is under her bonnet. Surprised by his touch and thoughtfulness, she thanks him and resumes her quiet prayers whispering "To Jesus Christ I commend my soul; Lord Jesus receive my soul."
