Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Oliver Queen came back from a five year absence to Starling, his home city, with a pledge to right the wrongs of his father.

Answer: Arrow

Some of the terrors experienced by Oliver Queen and his fellow evil fighters have been Malcolm Merlyn and his Undertaking in The Glades, Slade Wilson and his reign of revenge, and the League of Assassins. First Oliver was called The Vigilante or The Hood, and after season one, he was known as The Arrow. Stephen Amell played Oliver.

His cousin Robbie Amell played Ronnie Raymond on "The Flash". Both of these are the CW Network adaptions of the characters.
2. Tormented by two demons, Miss Vanessa Ives led a tortured existence in late nineteenth century London.

Answer: Penny Dreadful

Vanessa was destined to be the mother of evil. She was pursued by both Lucifer (who was in Hell) and Dracula (who'd been banished to walk the earth). She was aided in her valiant efforts to ward off the evil by several companions. "Penny Dreadful" originally aired on Showtime, and completed the story of Vanessa in three very intense seasons. Eva Green offered us a brave and compelling performance as the doomed Vanessa. She also stars in "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children". She has a deeply seductive voice and pulls off creepy with expertise.

Timothy Dalton, Rory Kinnear, and Billie Piper also starred in "Penny Dreadful".
3. Jesse Custer came home to Anvill, Texas to fulfill the promise he'd made to his father.

Answer: Preacher

Dominic Cooper played the part of the preacher, Jesse Custer. Jesse's father had been murdered when he was young, and he promised his father he would be good. Of course, Jesse was a "bad bad man" for many years before he came home to Texas. Once there, he took over his father's dilapidated old church, and became "infected" with the essence of a mysterious entity.

It was a fairly terror filled season one between Jesse's abuse of his new powers of persuasion, and the angels who'd come to get the love child of good and evil out of Jesse's body. Season one did not end well for the fictional town of Anvill.

The series was based off of the graphic novels, though season one was entirely imagined by the creators of the show to lay out the foundation for Jesse. Dominic Cooper also played the young adult version of Tony Stark's father. Tony Stark is the real name of Ironman.
4. Barry Allen was dosed with dark matter when Dr. Wells' particle accelerator malfunctioned in Central City.

Answer: The Flash

Barry first appeared in this version of the DC TV universe on the series "Arrow". He helped the team in season two, went home to see the particle accelerator turned on, and was dosed in the ensuing malfunction blast. He'd become connected to Felicity Smoak while he was in Starling, and she kept viewers updated on Barry as he remained comatose through the rest of "Arrow" season two.

He was officially in his coma for nine months, and awoke just in time to be the main character in his own series. Barry was driven by the need to find the person who'd killed his mother over a decade earlier, and free his wrongfully incarcerated father. During the first season of the series, Barry honed his speed and evasion skills alongside a team at S.T.A.R. labs, which had housed the particle accelerator.

Some of the terrors faced on that show were Cold (played by Wentworth Miller), Eobard Thawne the Reverse Flash, and Hartley Rathaway known as the Pied Piper. Grant Gustin played Barry, and Tom Cavanagh played dual rolls of Harrison Wells and the descendant of Detective Eddie Thawne.
5. Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson opened a law firm in Hell's Kitchen, and all the while Matt lived a double life as a blind crime fighter.

Answer: Daredevil

"Daredevil" was a Netflix original series from the Marvel universe and connected directly into two other Netflix series, "Jessica Jones" and "Luke Cage". Matt had been sort of blinded when he was about eleven years old, and shortly after his father was murdered.

He told Claire he could see, but he saw "a world on fire". He was mentored by a blind man named Stick, who taught Matt how to use all of his other senses to defend himself. Matt took many beatings, as he was still just a human, and was finally forced to tell Foggy the truth.

They worked side by side with Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll, whom Matt saved early in the series. They took on a terrifying mobster type of man named Wilson Fisk in season one. Fisk was referred to on "Luke Cage" as well. Charlie Cox played Matt and Elden Henson played Foggy. Rosario Dawson played the nurse Claire on all three series mentioned here.

In was announced that Jessica, Luke, and Matt would team up again on Netflix in 2017, in a series called "The Defenders".
6. Sansa Stark was thrust into the cold cruel world of Westeros as her father, mother, and two brothers were murdered. She was also tricked into marrying a sadist named Ramsay Bolton.

Answer: Game of Thrones

Sansa's father was beheaded on the order of King Joffrey Baratheon, which led to total chaos for the Stark family. Her sister Arya ran away from King's Landing swearing revenge on a list of people she repeated every night before she slept. Sansa married Tyrion Lannister, the only Lannister whom she could trust, but he never expected anything from her.

When she trusted the foul whore monger Little Finger, he tricked her into a marriage with Ramsay Bolton. Ramsay was a depraved sadist who raped Sansa and threatened her life. Since the end of the first season, Sansa has known one terror after another, and virtually had no peace of mind. But, she did get the opportunity to pay Ramsay back for his torture in a scene most satisfying for audiences. Sophie Turner played Sansa.

She also played Jean Grey in "X-Men: Apocalypse".
7. First she loved Stefan. Then she loved Damon. And, then Elena Gilbert was unintentionally changed from a human into something else.

Answer: The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev played several characters on the show, but she started with Elena. Elena was an orphaned teenage girl when the series debuted. She fell in love with handsome vampire Stefan Salvatore, while his brother Damon lusted her from a distance. They faced many terrors before Elena died with vampire blood in her system.

Some of those terrors were Damon himself, Stefan being a "ripper", Klaus Mikaelson (the Original hybrid), the Travelers, and the Gemini coven. Nina also played Katherine Pierce, and Amara (the originator of her doppelganger line). Elena and her friend Bonnie were sadly linked by a spell that forced Elena to "die" so Bonnie could live. Elena could awaken once more after Bonnie had lived out her human life.
8. It did not take Scott McCall long to become an Alpha in Beacon Hills. A constant grip of evil had him fighting alongside Stiles, Lydia, Allison, and the sheriff.

Answer: Teen Wolf

Young, clumsy, and afflicted with asthma, Scott did not initially appear to have leadership skills. But, after being turned into a wolf by Peter Hale, he quickly grew into his role as an evil fighter. His best friend Stiles (whose first name was not revealed during the show's first five seasons) remained a human for the most part (see Void Stiles), and helped Scott stay focused.

Their pals (and sometime love interests) were Lydia and Allison, both evil fighters in their own right, and help beat back the growing darkness.

As with a series like "The Walking Dead", "Teen Wolf" increased the pressure and consequences of its characters with more and more being lost in the war. Kanimas, the Alpha Pack, the Dread Doctors, the Beast, and Peter Hale himself all served up great challenges for the teens to overcome. Tyler Posey played Scott and Dylan O'Brien played Stiles.
9. Nick Clark, a drug addict, and his family witnessed the beginning of Robert Kirkman's 2010 zombie apocalypse in Los Angeles before hitching a yacht ride to Mexico.

Answer: Fear the Walking Dead

After five seasons of "The Walking Dead", audiences were transported back to 2010, when it all began. On the first series, fans did not get to see exactly how it all started, as that series jumped about a month into the apocalypse when Rick Grimes awoke from a coma. On "FTWD", Nick was the first witness in our zombie universe to the "infected", as their walkers were called.

He awoke after a drug sleep to find his friend Gloria munching on a person in their drug den hideaway. He ran fast and into oncoming traffic. That led to us getting a look into how the infection took over. Robert Kirkman, who created the graphic novels and original show, co-created this unique perspective with Dave Erickson. Nick and his family faced the terror of a degrading society as they tried to survive. Frank Dillane played Nick.

The name of the yacht they traveled in during season two was Abigail.
10. Olivia Moore- cute, sweet, smart, and engaged to Major Lilywhite awoke inside a body bag with a hunger for brains which led to some "psychic" inclinations and very white hair.

Answer: iZombie

Poor Liv Moore had her entire future mapped out. She was on her way to becoming a full fledged doctor when she was scratched at a party by zombie Blaine DeBeers. The virus being contagious, but not necessarily deadly, had her forced to change her entire life. She broke off her marriage plans with Major, became a morgue attendant, and buddied up with her co-worker Ravi. If she ingested the brains of dead people (as opposed to murdering people for her food) she could stay mostly herself. The side affect was that she would then acquire their memories and personalities, and could help Detective Clive Babineaux solve crimes. For the first two seasons he thought she was just psychic, which also explained her personality switches. The show is based on the Vertigo characters owned by DC Comics.

Former "One Tree Hill" star Robert Buckley played Major, Malcolm Goodwin played Clive, Rahul Kohli played Ravi, and David Anders played Blaine. Rose McIver is from New Zealand.
11. Another creation of Robert Kirkman, Kyle Barnes had the ability to exorcise "demons" from people who were being used as hosts. He'd done it for his own mother and his wife.

Answer: Outcast

Great darkness surrounded Kyle's world in the first season of the Cinemax series "Outcast". Kyle, known to these entities as the Outcast, did not even realize exactly what his power was. He'd suffered greatly as a child at the hands of his inhabited mother, whom he eventually freed from her possession (though she was left in a vegetative state). He was not even sure how it had happened until he was an adult. His wife had fallen victim to being taken, and once inside, these demon like spirits were initially very scared and disorientated. This would lead to bouts of extreme violence. If Kyle could get to a person in time, he could get the incorporeal being out of the host, but a darkness still remained inside. He worked with the local preacher in season one, who believed it was a Biblical type of demon possession. Which, it turned out, it was not.

Patrick Fugit played Kyle, the feared Outcast.
12. Kara Danvers (nee Zor-El) arrived to Earth late for her very important date. She'd been sent from Krypton to help guide her cousin Kal-El, but he'd already grown up.

Answer: Supergirl

"Supergirl" premiered initially on CBS for its first season. Melissa Benoist played Kara, an employee of Cat Grant, who'd missed her planned arrival on Earth because her pod had been knocked off of its trajectory. Superman, aka Clark Kent, had already grown to adulthood and was the defender of Metropolis. Kara was forced to reveal herself as Supergirl when her sister's plane began to crash just outside of National City.

In the second season, the show was moved to the CW Network, also owned by CBS, and filming began in a more affordable Canadian location. By 2016, the CW was becoming known for its comic book heroes with shows like "Arrow", "The Flash", "Supergirl", and "Legends of Tomorrow". Former "Teen Wolf" star Tyler Hoechlin began his portrayal of Superman in this show's second season.
13. Sam, Dean, John, and Mary Winchester made up the fundamentals of this show's premise of demons hunters. The brothers, Sam and Dean, traveled America in an old Impala they referred to as Baby.

Answer: Supernatural

John Winchester (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan) married into the life of a hunter when he wed Mary Campbell. The pair did not hunt, but instead started a family. When Dean was four and Sam six months old, Mary was killed by a yellow-eyed demon in Sam's nursery. This led John down a path that changed the boys forever. Eventually Sam went to college, and was on his way to law school, when John went missing and Dean asked for his brother's help to find him. In 2016, the series began its twelfth season, and was still a huge success for the CW Network. Former "Gilmore Girls" star Jared Padalecki played Sam, and Jensen Ackles played Dean. Jeffrey Dean Morgan's John didn't make it to season three, but the actor has gone on to play many memorable characters.

Fun Fact- Jensen Ackles married former "One Tree Hill" actress Danneel Harris in 2010, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan married former "One Tree Hill" star Hilarie Burton in 2009.
14. Being the heart of the Scooby Gang in Sunnydale, Xander Harris saw seven seasons of increasing darkness. He eventually lost an eye at the hands of the "evil preacher" Caleb in season seven.

Answer: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Though he achieved a natural increase in confidence as he got older, Xander basically remained himself throughout the show's seven seasons. He was attracted to strong women, some even being demons at one point, and used humor to level tense situations. After the show ended, but was then started again in comic book format, Xander and Dawn became romantically involved, which was vaguely hinted at during the show. Actor Nicholas Brendon is an identical twin, and his brother appeared in a few scenes with him in season five. Brendon has also bravely faced a very public battle with depression, helping many fans know that they are not alone. Actor Jared Padalecki has also done so.

That evil preacher was played by former "Firefly" star Nathan Fillion, who went on to star as Rick Castle on the series "Castle".
15. So, I've saved my saddest for last. Pizza boy turned zombie apocalypse warrior Glenn Rhee was snuffed out by Negan in the season seven premier of this AMC hit series.

Answer: The Walking Dead

In perhaps a dark show's darkest hour, our favorite group of apocalypse survivors faced an enemy that outsmarted them. While they'd lost many people on their journey, they'd also defeated whatever tried to take them as a group. This over confidence led to a tragic confrontation with a charismatic sociopath who called himself Negan (actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Rick had believed taking out Negan's people would benefit the many decent people living in Virginia, which was both very Governor-like and Gareth-like of him. And, like what Rick had done to Terminus Gareth, Negan returned in kind.

They were led to the exact spot Negan wanted them all in the season six finale, and he toyed with them before he decided which of them would die for their sins.

He picked Abraham Ford first, who had a last comical snippet before he died. Then, he killed fan favorite Glenn, who'd saved Rick's life in the series' first two episodes. Glenn also had one last thing he was able to say before his death, "Maggie, I will find you".

Afterward, a defiant Rick was left with one last lesson to learn about Negan's world...
