Although Worf's parents came aboard in the fourth season episode "Family", we didn't see Nikolai until season 7. He was working on Boraal II when the planets atmosphere was dying and despite orders from Captain Picard to keep the Prime Directive, he covertly arranged to beam some of the inhabitants aboard the Enterprise-D.

Gene Roddenberry chose the name Sulu when he saw the Sulu Sea on a map. He wanted a name that was not specific to any particular Asian nationality, and the Sulu Sea touched on many different Asian nations.

Oddly enough, Sulu's first name was never mentioned during the series, and originally appeared in the 1981 "Star Trek" novel "The Entropy Effect". Until the name was used onscreen in "Star Trek VI" it had not become part of official "Star Trek" canon.

The Hirogen appeared in nine episodes over the last four years of the series. Eventually they came to a truce with the "Voyager" crew when they were convinced that they could use holographic technology as a substitute to hunting real prey.
