Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Enterprise arrives at a planet named Sarpeidon to save the inhabitants from an impending supernova. With ship sensors indicating no life signs on the planet, three crew members beam down to investigate. They meet a 'librarian' named Atoz (A to Z) who activates a time portal that allows people to visit any point in Sarpeidon's history. The three crew members get trapped within the device, but manage to escape shortly before the planet's destruction. What episode (and series) is this from?

Answer: "All Our Yesterdays" ("TOS")

"All Our Yesterdays" was the penultimate episode of "Star Trek", first broadcast on March 14th, 1969. The three crew members described above were Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Captain Kirk jumped into the portal when he heard a woman screaming, and ended up in a Victorian-type era. Bones and Spock tried to follow, but found themselves in a prehistoric ice age.

2. What 'A' refers to the characters Data and Lore from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and Andrea, Ruk, Alice and Norman from "Star Trek"?

Answer: Androids

Both Data and Lore were each androids with a positronic brain created by Dr. Noonien Soong. Data appeared as a regular character in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" whilst Lore appeared in several episodes starting with "Datalore". Both characters were played by Brent Spiner.

Andrea and Ruk appeared in the original "Star Trek" in the episode "What are little girls made of?". Both were destroyed but not before Captain Kirk could share a passionate embrace with Andrea.

Alice and Norman appeared in the original "Star Trek" episode "I, Mudd". They were under the control of the rogue Harry Mudd. Kirk and Spock managed to defeat Norman and the other androids using insane logic.

3. Who was the 'she-devil' of Ventax II?

Answer: Ardra ("TNG")

Ardra was a mythic figure on Ventax II who promised peace and prosperity for a thousand years. At the end of that time she would reappear and enslave the population. In the "TNG" episode "Devil's Due", a woman appeared claiming to be Ardra, demanding that the Ventaxians "give the devil her due." Thanks to the crew of the Enterprise she was found to be a con artist.

4. Who is the captain of the Krenim time ship featured in the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Year of Hell"?

Answer: Annorax

Annorax built the time ship as a weapon, which he used to remove the Zahl from history. By doing so, however, the Zahl did not exist to prevent a plague from spreading through the Krenim race which killed Annorax's wife. Annorax had therefore spent over 200 years trying to bring her back to life.

Annorax was played by Kurtwood Smith, who also played the role of the Federation President in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country".

Answer: "Anslem"

8. What "Star Trek" species first appeared in the original series episode "Journey to Babel", has blue skin, white hair, and a pair of antennae on their heads?

Answer: Andorians

Andorians have also made appearances in "Star Trek: The Animated Series", "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "Star Trek: Enterprise", as well as three of the motion pictures (I, IV, and V).

The Akaali are a pre-industrial species encountered in "Star Trek: Enterprise", the Angosians are a species met in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" who petitioned for Federation membership, but are denied, while the Arcturians are Federation members who prefer cloning as asexual reproduction, rather than doing it the old fashioned way (also met in "TNG").

Question by reedy
9. Nurse Ogawa worked alongside Dr Crusher in "Star Trek: The Next Generation". What was her first name?

Answer: Alyssa

Vice Admiral Necheyev had the first name Alynna. Amelia Earhart was one of "The 37s" in "Star Trek: Voyager" and Amanda was the name of Spock's mother.

The "TNG" episode "Lower Decks" is not shown from the viewpoint of the senior staff. Consequently, the viewer does not have the full picture as to what is happening on the bridge - just like some of the crew. In this episode Alyssa Ogawa is one of four crew members who are up for a promotion and achieves the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.
