Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the Klingon who was the sister of Duras and B'Etor?

Answer: Lursa

Duras was vying with Gowron to be leader of the Klingon High Council, however he was killed by Worf after murdering K'Eyhlr.

In the "TNG" double episode "Redemption" we met Lursa and B'Etor. They tried to overthrow Gowron and install his illegitimate son, Toral, in his place. In order to do so, however, they needed Romulan assistance and support for them fell away once this was exposed.

Question by Daddy19
2. Who was Data's "brother", also played by Brent Spiner?

Answer: Lore

Lore's public story was that Data was created first and that Dr. Soong perfected his design in Lore. Afterwards he "confided" to Data that it was the other way around, and that Lore had been deactivated because the colonists had envied his perfection.

Question by reedy
3. The Cardassian rank of Legate is higher the rank of Gul.

Answer: True

During the runs of "TNG" and "DS9", we have been told about three ranks in the Cardassian Union. The lowest being Glinn and the highest being Legate.

Damar held all three of these ranks during the run of "DS9".

Question by Daddy19
4. What derogatory term was used by Ferengi to refer to one who is a coward or who has no profit?

Answer: Lobeless

Ferengi, of course, have very large earlobes, and they play a part both in their parlance, and in their sexuality (lobe-rubbing is very sensual for a Ferengi).

5. Based on Starfleet uniforms seen from "TNG" onwards (excluding the former Maquis on "Voyager"), if you had two solid pips on your collar and one black pip, what rank would you hold?

Answer: Lieutenant Commander

Lieutenants Junior Grade would have one solid pip and one black pip. Full Lieutenants would have two solid pips. Lieutenant Colonel was not a Starfleet rank, however it did exist in the Bajoran Militia.

Data and Troi were Lieutenants Commander for the majority of the "TNG" run as were Worf and Jadzia Dax in "DS9".

Question by Daddy19
6. What small, defenseless creature, believed to be extinct, was found among Kivas Fajo's collection in the "TNG" episode "The Most Toys"?

Answer: Lapling

The Lapling had large, blue compound eyes, brown skin, and a large mouth. A lifesize model of a Lapling was also seen in another "TNG" episode when a presentation on endangered and extinct species was given to the children on the ship.

7. What was the name of the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode in which we follow the day to day events of four junior officers as the senior staff deal with a situation on the Cardassian border?

Answer: Lower Decks

In "Lower Decks", we met four Ensigns who were up for promotion. Sito Jaxa and Sam Lavelle would both be in line for the Ops duty station on the bridge if succesful. Taurik was an engineer and Nurse Ogawa worked in sickbay with Dr Crusher.

As events on the border developed, they each found out a small piece of the story, however due to the nature of the mission, they were unable to tell each other about what they knew.

8. While Starfleet personnel may not have used currency as we know it, a certain type of non-replicatable money was often referred to on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." What was it?

Answer: Latinum

Latinum was a rare silver liquid, often suspended within gold for ease of transaction (gold-pressed latinum). It was used extensively by Ferengi and the races that the Ferengi dealt with.

9. In the "TNG" episode "The Offspring", what was the name of Data's daughter?

Answer: Lal

Data was trying to experience parenthood as well as continuing the work of his creator, Dr Noonian Soong.

Somehow, Lal was able to surpass Data's programming and began to experience emotion. Starfleet decided that she should be separated from Data and studied at the Daystrom Institute. Unfortunately, her neural net failed and she died, however Data reintegrated her memories into his own brain so her experiences were not entirely lost.

Question by Daddy19
10. What was the name of the planet in the "Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Strange New World" that had a pollen in the air that caused hallucinations?

Answer: Loracus Prime

The hallucinogenic compound that caused the problems was called tropolisine. Dr. Phlox was able to synthesize an antidote and treat the affected crewmembers before too much damage could be done.
