Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did the transit cop describe the suspect on the platform?

Answer: "White male, shaved head, 20s."

The undercover transit cop radioed in the description of the "fare-jumper" and waited for the train on the platform. When the train came, he sat down and didn't see the suspect board, so called in an "all clear." When the suspect stepped through the door from another car, though, the cop reached for his gun.

Unfortunately, the train screeched to a sudden stop, throwing the cop from his seat and unarming him. When the cop was found, his face was eaten away by what seemed to be acid.
2. How much time did Deputy Chief Karras give Scully and Doggett to solve the crime before he reopened the subway line?

Answer: 5 hours

According to his little diatribe, he was being hounded by both the press and the mayor because the line had already been closed for over 11 hours. He gave the agents only five hours to look into the crime before he reopened the line at 4 pm for the afternoon rush.
3. What did Doggett give as his reason for being included in the assessment team?

Answer: "I'm just a good shot."

The rest of the team was Hellura Lyle, the CDC representative; Steven Melnick, a structural engineer who oversaw construction of he tunnel; and Lieutenant Bianco, who was being sent as a representative of the transit police.
4. Where did Melnick first get burned by the substance?

Answer: neck

As they were walking through the tunnels, some of the substance fell on the back of his neck, burning him. Eventually, his conditioned worsened until it appeared as though the skin on his arms were being burned by electricity from the inside out.
5. What were the bodies Doggett found in the decommissioned part of the tunnel wrapped in?

Answer: plastic

There were three bodies wrapped in plastic and left in the unused tunnel. Scully suspected that Deputy Chief Karras knew about the bodies and stashed them in the tunnel to prevent the truth from coming out.
6. What was the organic creature living in the water primarily composed of?

Answer: calcium

Dr. Bowe, a marine biologist from Boston University, explained to Scully that the seawater she'd sent in for analysis contained medusas, miniscule creatures that are made up primarily of calcium. Bowe explained that calcium was "what powers its movement and gives it bioluminescence."
7. Did Doggett leave Lt. Bianco to be found by the hazmat team when he came across him in the tunnel?

Answer: no

Despite Scully telling him to leave Bianco for the hazmat team, Doggett caved to Bianco's pleas and supported him so they could continue down the tunnel together.
8. What did Scully theorize was triggering the reaction from the organism?

Answer: sweat

When Doggett found the boy who was completely unaffected, Scully realized that sweat was probably causing the reaction because "perspiration is a conductor for calcium ions promoting a chemical-electrical reaction." She noted that, because the boy's sweat glands were underdeveloped, he wasn't conducting the reaction as much as the grown men were.
9. What did Scully tell Doggett had cleaned the organism off his body?

Answer: alcohol bath

She came to his hospital room after talking to the nurse and told him the good news. Wanting to leave the hospital, Doggett started back toward the dressing area before remembering that he was wearing one of these awful backless paper dresses. Not wanting to show Scully his bum, he hilariously backed his way to the dressing area while Scully averted her eyes.
10. Did the organism survive?

Answer: no

When Doggett dropped the wet gun on the train track just before the train came, it caused an electrical reaction that effectively wiped out the entire organism, leaving no proof of what Scully and Doggett had found.
