Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gary Sacks was attacked before his father.

Answer: false

Actually, Gary was microwaving some food in the kitchen when his father was attacked. He heard the heart monitor flatline and ran in to check, finding the wheelchair overturned, but unable to find his father anywhere. As he looked for his father, he turned away from the closet and was attacked by the reptilian creature.
2. What did the medallion that Scully gave Doggett commemorate?

Answer: Apollo 11

Mulder had given Scully the medallion before and told Doggett, "It symbolizes teamwork, partnership. It means no one gets there alone. And after this past year and everything that we've been through, it just... I wouldn't be here without you."
3. What did Doggett find on the windowsill at the Sacks home?

Answer: slime

Doggett noted that there was some additional slime on the floor. Agent Harrison seemed excited because it confirmed for her the case's status as an X-File.
4. What department had Agent Harrison come from?

Answer: Accounting

She had processed Scully and Mulder's travel expenses and become obsessed with the X-Files. When Scully had to leave for maternity leave, she begged Kersh to put her on the assignment.
5. What did Mulder joke about watching a lot of?

Answer: "Oprah"

He went to pick Scully up and reminded her not to forget her pillow. It seemed like they were going to Lamaze class together, and Mulder was going to coach Scully on her breathing. When Scully asked how Mulder knew about "these things," Mulder joked, "I'm unemployed. I have a lot of time on my hands. 'Oprah'. I watch a lot of 'Oprah'."
6. What did Doggett have to remind Harrison about concerning her gun?

Answer: to take the safety off

She followed him to Stites' home and surprised him just after he'd realized the creature was in the house. He sent her out front to shoot the creature after he flushed it out of the home, but had to remind her to take the safety off her gun. Doggett couldn't have been feeling too confident with Harrison as his backup, considering she didn't seem to know what to do with her gun!
7. How did Mulder get into the FBI's autopsy lab?

Answer: snuck off of tour

Mulder came in while Scully was doing the autopsy on Arlen Sacks and urged her to leave the case in favor of her unborn child's safety. She asked how he'd even gotten into the lab and he showed her the visitor's badge and explained that he'd "wandered" off of his tour. Ultimately, to keep Scully out of the field, Mulder stepped in for her to help look for Doggett, going to the Stites estate himself.
8. Did Doggett lose his gun when he fell into the hole?

Answer: no

He managed to keep it despite the big fall and used it in his own defense, shooting at the creature when it sprayed venom in his eyes.
9. What kind of scientist did Stites tell Mulder he was?

Answer: biologist

Stites originally brought it up, trying to tell Mulder that he knew about animals and they wouldn't act the way Mulder was claiming. Mulder turned the fact around, though, and used it to accuse Stites, saying he thought "it was a man using some kind of reptile venom to blind [his victims] first." Mulder added, "You would really have to know what you were doing. You would have to be, say, a scientist."
10. Stites stepped on Doggett's head to push him back into the hole.

Answer: false

He actually stepped on Doggett's hand, smashing the fingers until Doggett had to let go and drop back into the system of underground tunnels.
11. What was Mulder eating while staking out Stites' estate?

Answer: sunflower seeds

Scully called Mulder because she'd heard Mulder had told Stites his name was Alvin Kersh, and Stites had called Skinner to complain that Kersh was harassing him and making wild accusations. When Scully asked what he was doing, he told her he was "spitting sunflower shells on Herman Stites' driveway." Hopefully this wasn't too hard for fans; Mulder's always eating sunflower seeds!
12. What did the laboratory assistant tell Scully the venom would do to a victim's skin?

Answer: harden it

The assistant told Scully that the venom would blind its victim, then excrete "protease and collagenase throughout the victim's body," which would liquefy muscle and bone "while the victim's skin is made hard and brittle, forming a sac or shell from which the reptile can drink." The assistant noted that, while there were "precedents for this sort of thing in nature," no single species was able to do everything that the venom was doing.
13. The creature and Stites were one and the same.

Answer: true

Mulder first thought that Stites had created the creature and was harboring it, but he actually was the creature! When Mulder and Stites when to the tunnels, Harrison seemed to recognize Stites immediately for what he really was.
14. Where did Mulder tell Doggett to aim when the creature was preparing to attack Mulder, and a semi-blind Doggett had the only gun?

Answer: the sound of Mulder's voice

Doggett didn't want to shoot at Mulder's voice because he feared he'd hit and kill Mulder. Mulder, always one to make bold moves backed only by faith, insisted and Doggett successfully killed the creature, which in death reverted back to looking like Stites.
15. Who ended up with the medallion?

Answer: Harrison

Mulder intended to give it back to Doggett in the hospital as a gesture of respect and camaraderie, but Doggett saw it fit to pass that same gesture along to Harrison. She seemed truly touched by the gesture, and all she could say to Scully and Mulder was, "No way.

This means, I can't tell you what this means to me." She then asked Scully and Mulder about how they escaped the alien spaceship in Antarctica, which launched a sweet argument between the two that made them seem like the old married couple we all wish they were!
