Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What war had Ray Pearce fought in?

Answer: Gulf War

Nora was upset about Ray's sudden death and blamed it on Gulf War Syndrome because he'd been fine when he went over to fight. Curtis Delario tried to keep Nora from placing blame, but she wouldn't hear it.
2. Did Curtis Delario intentionally hit Ray with his car?

Answer: no

Curtis had been lighting a cigarette so didn't see Ray step into the street. When he looked up and saw his old friend, he slammed on the brakes but it was too late. The car hit Ray, and the hood split and crumpled up around him. Curtis spit some blood and looked up, only to see Ray, seemingly unharmed, staring back at him through the windshield. Before Curtis could react, Ray thrust his arm through the windshield and grabbed for Curtis.

When the agents later found Curtis' body in a dumpster, they deduced that Ray had stuck his fingers into Curtis' skull as with a bowling ball and dragged him from the car before killing him.
3. What did Scully and Doggett find under Curtis' car?

Answer: shoe imprints

Scully noted that they looked like men's shoes, but Doggett pointed out that "if a man were here he'd be splattered from here to tomorrow and there's just no evidence of that." Scully concurred, but reminded him that Curtis' "car definitely hit something and the only evidence that we have are these two prints."
4. What did Ray use to trim his metallic beard?

Answer: nail clippers

Ray was slowly being taken over by metal, and some of his facial hair was among the first things to change. He clipped the stubble one piece at a time and dropped the tiny shards into the sink with metallic clinks.
5. What did Larina point out Ray was accidentally eating at the halfway house?

Answer: tin foil

He was eating a sandwich as she tried to welcome him to the house's community, and she seemed only a bit put off when he took a big bite and started chewing on some of the tin wrapper for the sandwich. When Ray told her to leave him alone, Larina finally gave up and left the table.
6. How did Harry Odell, the salvage yard manager, try to kill Ray?

Answer: shotgun

He pulled the rifle out of his desk drawer and shot Ray, saying, "This time, you stay dead." The impact knocked Ray out the window, and when Harry went to check, he found Ray's dismembered hand and forearm lying on the ground, twitching. Then Ray walked up and grabbed Harry's head with his remaining hand.
7. What was Chamber Technologies researching?

Answer: Smart Metals

Doggett had found a partially-shredded invoice from Chamber Technologies in Harry's office and followed that lead to talk to Dr. Pugovel. He told Doggett that they were working on "smart metals. The idea is to one day build things that are indestructible. Cars, equipment built of alloys with molecular memory. If damaged, they'd rebuild into their original forms." He assured Doggett that they worked only in the theoretical, though.
8. Who did the agents use as bait when trying to capture Ray?

Answer: Dr. Pugovel

Knowing Ray would come to kill Dr. Pugovel, the agents conspired with him to lure Ray into a metal chamber where they could trap Ray. They successfully trapped him, but then Ray started to beat through the four inch thick door. When Ray stopped pounding, Doggett ordered the door open, but they found Ray had busted through the far side of the chamber and escaped through the second story wall.
9. Whose body did Doggett find in one of the Chamber Technologies barrels at the salvage yard?

Answer: Dr. Clifton

Pugovel explained that Clifton had been working on the research project when "he got sick. He was... he was working with an alloy with a genetic algorithm built into it. It converted electrical energy into mechanical. Gave it memory." Pugovel assured the agents, "We immediately shut down the project.

But it was too late. He didn't have any family. His work was his life. He wanted to leave us to continue working on the science." When Doggett pointed out that the barrel had been shipped to the salvage yard only to infect someone else, Pugovel protested that he didn't know how that had happened.
10. Did Ray kill Owen Harris?

Answer: no

Nora had gotten Owen's name off the invoice and gave it to Ray. Ray found Owen and dragged him from his car, preparing to kill him in front of his family. Owen pleaded with him, assuring Ray that he was "just an accountant." When Owen's son called for him from the car, it seemed to get through to Ray and he left the man alive. Scully later suggested that "what drove Ray to kill is also what saved those people: some flicker of humanity."
