Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What physical characteristic did Mr. Potocki display?

Answer: He was obese

Mr. Potocki was a very large man, particularly in comparison to all the beggars he was brushing away in the Indian airport. As Scully later theorized, a big man would make for better "accommodation."
2. What did Mr. Potocki tell the beggar to buy when he gave him some change?

Answer: WD-40

The man had been following Mr. Potocki on his squeaky wheeled platform and Mr. Potocki stopped to hand him some change, callously telling him to oil up his transportation. When Mr. Potocki was in the restroom and heard that familiar squeak again, he got really annoyed, but before he could fully unleash on the beggar, he got pulled out under the stall door and overtaken.
3. What did the bellboy at the hotel mention wondering about plane rides from India?

Answer: if they served Indian food

He was trying to make conversation to stall so that Mr. Potocki might find his manners and tip him, but eventually gave up when he was getting no response and left the room. Once alone, Mr. Potocki sat down on the bed and started oozing blood!
4. What evidence did Doggett show Scully at the hotel room that the cops had apparently missed their first time around?

Answer: child's print

There was a small bloody handprint on the bed sheets. Doggett seemed to dread the idea that a child could have been sent into the room to kill Mr. Potocki, but Scully reassured him that a child had not done this work.
5. What euphemistic term for "janitor" did Mrs. Holt use when describing Mr. Burrard's new position?

Answer: maintenance engineer

She told him that his job was vital for the school's function; that he was "playing an important part in these kids' lives." Burrard, who was actually the legless beggar, never spoke, but was willing to take the job because it allowed him to get close to the kids whose families upon which he was looking to exact his revenge.
6. According to Scully's evidence, where had Mr. Potocki died?

Answer: Bombay

During her autopsy, Scully ran a decay analysis which gave her a range on time of death. The range was "24 to 36 hours," which Scully confirmed would have meant that he had died "before he left Bombay." Doggett cynically pointed out, "No. It would mean that a dead man boarded a plane in India, changed planes in Paris, hailed a cab at Dulles, and then checked into a downtown hotel and tipped the bellman.

In my experience, dead men don't tip, Agent Scully." Scully simply again urged Doggett to "keep an open mind."
7. What did Trevor, the bully, try to steal from Quinton?

Answer: scooter

Just as the boys were about to start fighting over the scooter, Quinton's father stepped in and stopped them, telling Trevor to find someone his own age to pick on. The legless beggar, looking like Burrard, watched Quinton drive off with his father.
8. What was Quinton's father doing when he was attacked?

Answer: watching television

Quinton had awoken and seen the beggar in his bedroom. Understandably, he called for his father, but when he got to the room there was no one there. His father closed and locked the window, then went back downstairs. When Quinton heard his father scream, he ran downstairs to him but was too late. His father's eyes had already filled with blood and he was quite dead.
9. How had the legless beggar gotten into Quinton's house?

Answer: bedroom window

When the agents arrived on the scene, Doggett found palm prints on the sill outside the locked window, revealing how the perpetrator had gotten access to the house. When Quinton's father had shut the window, he'd actually locked the beggar inside the house with them!
10. Where did the legless beggar "disappear" after crawling out of Quinton's father's belly?

Answer: supply closet

Scully had made a single incision to open up the man's stomach, which was very strangely distended, and the belly started moving. As Scully watched, a tiny hand reached up out of the hole. In her surprise, Scully had knocked over the autopsy table where she had laid her gun, so she had to go scrambling to find it.

By the time she had recovered the weapon, the belly was open but empty. She followed the trail of blood smeared on the floor to a supply closet, but saw nothing inside. The beggar, sitting on the floor of the closet, was making himself invisible.
11. Where did Chuck Burks tell Doggett he worked?

Answer: Advanced Digital Imaging Lab

Scully had called Burks, one of Mulder's favorite consultants, to get some insight on the case. Burks had a lot to say about Siddhi mystics, but when Doggett found out that his official field of study had nothing to do with anthropology or related fields, he sarcastically dismissed Burks' contributions.
12. Where did Trevor's mother die?

Answer: swimming pool

She went outside to find Trevor and saw him lying motionless at the bottom of the pool. Naturally, she jumped in to help him, but when she turned him around, she was confronted by the beggar. When Trevor returned home, it was to find Scully and Doggett investigating his mother's death.
13. What did Burks use to reveal the powers of the beggar and Mr. Burrard's absence in the interrogation room?

Answer: video camera

Burks set up the video camera in the hall and pointed it at the chair where Mr. Burrard was sitting. In the camera, there was only an empty chair, though. Doggett finally (if hesitantly) accepted that reality was being manipulated and Burrard wasn't really who (or what) he appeared to be.
14. Who did the beggar appear as to Scully in the school?

Answer: Trevor

Quinton and Trevor, having found common ground in seeing the beggar in his true form, organized to lure him into the janitor's closet at the school and drop a chemical on him to burn him. Unfortunately, things didn't quite go as planned and Quinton found himself in a classroom facing the beggar alone.

When Scully and Mrs. Holt burst into the room, they found Quinton facing Trevor, and Quinton hysterically pointing the finger at Trevor, crying, "It's him! It's the little man!"
15. Who shot the beggar?

Answer: Scully

Though she saw Trevor, Scully shot him because Quinton told her it was the beggar. She was clearly disturbed, though, and later told Doggett, "I shot a young boy." Even when he told her she hadn't, Scully wasn't comforted: "But it's what I saw. With my eyes, anyway. Do you know what it's like not to be able to trust your own eyes?" When Doggett asked why she'd shot under those circumstances, Scully thought and replied through the onset of tears, "Because it's what the boy saw. And in an instant I realized that it's what Mulder would have seen or understood. Because that's just how he came at things; without judgment and without prejudice and with an open mind that I am just not capable of." Disturbingly, Scully's shot didn't seem to kill the man, as he was back in the Indian airport two weeks later begging for change from American businessmen!
