1. In this 1993 first person shooter game, players fight as a space marine against invading hordes from Hell. What game is this?

Answer: Doom

"Doom" was originally released in 1993. Players control a space marine who was nameless but came to be known as 'Doomguy' against demon hordes and the undead. Players must navigate through a series of levels that take place on bases on Mars and in Hell.

As players navigate the levels, they have to keep track of health, ammunition and armour while fighting against a number of enemies that include the undead.
2. This popular first person shooter game featuring the character Gordon Freeman was Valve's debut game. What is it?

Answer: Half-Life

This multi-award winning game is hailed by some as the best video game ever played. Players play as a character named Gordon Freeman who is a scientist trying to escape a research facility. While trying to escape, Freeman fights both aliens and humans using a variety of weapons and by solving puzzles. Alien enemies include headcrabs, bullsquids and headcrab zombies.

A science fiction author was hired to help develop the storyline.
3. This 1996 game from a popular franchise was the first within that franchise to include 3D play. Bowser can tell you, what game is this?

Answer: Super Mario 64

In this game, players control Mario as he makes his way through a number of different worlds in order to defeat an enemy named Bowser and make his way to Princess Peach. In this game, Mario has a lot of abilities that he didn't have in previous games.

He can crawl, crouch, climb, punch and swim. At the beginning of the game, Mario is invited to the castle of Princess Peach because she has baked him a cake. He discovers that Bowser has taken over the castle and hidden a number of Power Stars which Mario needs to find in order to gain access to various rooms throughout the castle and eventually fight Bowser in a final battle.

Answer: Grim Fandango

In this game, players control a character named Manuel "Manny" Calavera who is following Mercedes "Meche" Colomar. The game takes place in the Underworld as Manny, who is a travel agent for the deceased, tries to help Meche get the best and quickest journey to the afterlife.

It is created in a style similar to film noir and includes Spanish and English dialogue. Although this game was selected for a number of awards, it did not do well commercially.
5. In this 1997 game, players try to rid the Kingdom of Khanduras of the Lord of Terror. Which game is this?

Answer: Diablo

In this game, players assume the role of a lone hero who is trying to rid the world of Diablo, otherwise known as the Lord of Terror. The action takes place underneath the town of Tristam, in a series of underground dungeons. As players move through the game, they can learn spells and acquire items that will help them such as bows.

They also fight various enemies such as the undead and demons. "Diablo" won Game of the Year awards from "Computer Gaming World" and "Computer Game Entertainment".
6. This racing game that includes a course named Dinosaur Canyon was released by Sega in 1994. What is it?

Answer: Daytona USA

In this game, players drive a stock car named the Hornet on one of three courses. They are called Three Seven Speedway (a beginner course), Dinosaur Canyon (an advanced course), and Seaside Street Galaxy (an expert course). Players begin their course in last place and race against a number of computer controlled cars around the course.

The object is to beat the other cars and complete the course before time runs out. As a player gains more expertise, they must avoid obstacles on the track as well.
7. This 1991 platform video game was the first in the franchise featuring the fast blue fellow. What is it?

Answer: Sonic the Hedgehog

In this game the evil Dr. Robotnik has taken the animals of South Island and hidden them inside aggressive robots. It is up to Sonic the Hedgehog to free his animal friends. A player has three lives at the beginning of this game and moves through a series of levels. Players control Sonic as he runs at high speed, destroying robots and avoiding deadly obstacles such as pits, spikes and moving walls.
8. This 1998 platform video game features a young purple fellow and his friend Sparx as they try to defeat Gnasty Gnorc. What game is this?

Answer: Spyro the Dragon

In this game the terrible Gnasty Gnorc (a part gnome, part orc character) has encased every dragon in Dragon World in a crystal shell. The only dragon who isn't caught in the attack is a young dragon named Spyro. Spyro and his friend Sparx must find and defeat Gnasty Gnorc. Spryo makes his way through five worlds within the Dragon Kingdom, freeing dragons as he goes.

When dragons are freed, they give him advice that will help him on his quest.

Answer: Crash Bandicoot

In this game, the evil Doctor Cortex has turned wildlife into a bunch of soldiers to help Cortex take over the world. The title character Crash is to be the leader of this army of soldiers however he is rejected from that post, to be replaced by a female named Tawna. Crash tries to rescue Tawna and defeat the evil doctor. Players control Crash as he moves through a series of levels, avoiding obstacles and defeating enemies.
10. This violent game was initially released in 1997. Players choose criminal characters as the action takes place in three cities. What game is this?

Answer: Grand Theft Auto

In this game, players choose a character and must attain a certain number of points (a monetary value). To do that, they can do pretty much whatever they want in the game which includes stealing cars and causing death and destruction. They can also complete jobs for the local crime boss in order to gain points.

The game is made up of six levels that are split between three cities. They are Liberty City (based on New York City), San Andreas (based on San Francisco), and Vice City (based on Miami).

The game caused quite a bit of controversy before it was even released due to its violent content and the manufacturer used that to their advantage when marketing the game. Free publicity!
