Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Final Fantasy X
Answer: Dream Zanarkand
First a little backdrop story. Dream Zanarkand was created as a fantasy town when the war between the original city Zanarkand and the neighbouring city Bevelle threatened to wipe out the entire town of Zanarkand. The inhabitants of the original Zanarkand dreamt up a mythical town in the midst of the ocean Spyra, so isolated that it was safe from enemies - or at least the inhabitants of Dream Zanarkand thought so.
The game starts when a tidal wave brings the Sinspawn - several unlikely creatures, the offspring of the evil being named Sin.
Your task is to assume the character of Tidus, a Dream Zanarkandian, and to defeat the Sinspawn.
2. Far Cry 4
Answer: Kyrat
Kyrat was a monarchy somewhere in the Himalayas, probably near the Indian - Nepali border. The story in "Far Cry 4" sketches how Pagan Min usurped the Kyrati throne and installed an absolute monarchy, as a cover for Pagan's black market operations and drug smuggling.
A the start of the game, Ajay Ghale (a feared rebel) returns to Kyrat. Your mission is to assume the character of Ajay Ghale, find a way into Kyrat and battle the Royal Army up till Pagan Min himself.
3. World of Warcraft
Answer: Azeroth
"World of Warcraft", among insiders abbreviated to "WoW", allows you to participate in the events on the fictive planet Azeroth. This planet consists of four continents, nicely shattered over the planet: the Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdar (in the west), Northrend (of course situated in the North) and Pandaria (south).
There are two factions: the Horde (including trolls, ogres and orcs) and the Alliance (humans and a number of other races, among whom dwarves and night elves are the most important).
Your mission is to take command of one of several human characters and to defeat the Horde ("WoW" and "WoW 2") or to combine the Horde and the Alliance in their joint struggle against a third party named the Burning Legion (including demons, imps and satyrs).
4. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Answer: Overworld
Most games in the "Legend of Zelda" series feature the Overworld, a general name for the ground level of the Kingdom of Hyrule. This Kingdom was created out of chaos by the Three Golden Goddesses, who instilled the kingdom with force, wisdom and courage - the elements of the Triforce artefact which the Hylians (including Link and Princess Zelda) have to use against various enemies such as Ganondorf.
Apart from the Overworld, there is also the Underworld: various caves, dungeons and other subterranean locations. Exploring this Underworld is not without risk, but may get you some special implements that are not available to one who only remains in the Overworld.
Your mission is to take control of the character Link, to find and assemble the pieces of the shattered Triforce, to rescue Princess Zelda from the evil wizard Ganondorf and of course to utterly defeat Ganondorf.
5. Guild Wars 2
Answer: Ashford Plains
Both "Guild Wars: The Prophecies" and "Guild Wars 2" start in Ashford Plains, a zone in the region Ascalon riddled with ruins. In this environment players are set relatively easy tasks (for instance herd cattle to the pen) and are unlikely to be confronted with enemies - as the zone is rather friendly, and intended as a tutorial.
Your mission is to choose a profession (for instance warrior or monk), to explore the surroundings, to acquire (magic) skills and weapons, and to fulfil various tasks. In combat (if needed), you can use your skills and/or your weapons.
6. Candy Crush Saga
Answer: Lemonade Lake
"Candy Crush Saga" is a puzzle game in which one has to match at least three candies of the same colour by swapping items around. The game is divided into more than 300 episodes, each containing several levels. The third episode (level 21 to 35) is called Lemonade Lake.
Your mission is different in each level. Sometimes you only have to collect enough points, sometimes you have to remove special obstacles such as chocolate or jelly. Most of the levels offer only a limited number of moves in which you have to reach the target, but there used to be also some timed levels in which you have to reach a certain score within a limited time.
7. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Answer: Nirn
Nirn is a fictive world on which all the games from "Elder Scrolls" until "Elder Scrolls VI" take place. The most important continent on Nirn is Tamriel, divided into regions such as the snowy Skyrim or the warmer Black Marsh.
Your mission is to explore the setting and use magic skills and/or weapons to defeat any enemies you encounter. Alternatively you can also interact peacefully with non-player characters. In "Elder Scrolls V", you start in Skyrim - as indicated by the subtitle to this instalment of the game series.
8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Answer: 12 Grimmauld Place
In the game "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" created by Electronic Arts in 2007, based upon the book and movie of the same name, the young wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger can explore places outside of Hogwarts, although the main story devolves at Hogwarts.
12 Grimmauld Place is the address of Sirius Black's parental home, hidden by some spell for muggles (non-magical people).
Here the protagonists can meet and plan various quests. The main story of the game closely follows the storyline of the book and movie, with an impressive final at the Ministry of Magic.
9. Super Mario 64
Answer: Mushroom Kingdom
The Mushroom Kingdom ruled by Princess Peach appeared at first in "Super Mario 64", but has since been a recurring location in the Mario Bros. franchise. Princess Peach is a peaceful ruler and has a humanoid appearance, but her subjects are the Toads that resemble a white champignon.
Other creatures in this medieval kingdom are the purple dinosaur Yoshi, a turtle-like race called Koopa and the unkind race called the Goomba - resembling a brown champignon. So the whites are friendly and the brown unfriendly - it seems like discrimination by Kaukasians.
Your mission is to help Princess Peach by solving puzzles, obtaining various objects and defeating the unfriendly creatures.
10. Star Wars (1991)
Answer: Tatooine
"Star Wars" (1991) is a video game based upon the first movie in the eponymous series: "A New Hope". It starts on the planet Tatooine and ends at the Death Star.
Tatooine is a hot sandy planet, but there are some mountain ranges and caves as well.
Your job is to control the character Luke Skywalker. Luke has to find his allies R2-D2, C-3PO, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Han Solo, whilst fighting off various enemies such as Banthas and Storm Troopers. After completing the search for the party of five, Luke will have to navigate the Millennium Falcon through an asteroid storm, rescue Princess Leia from the Death Star, and lead a group of rebel fighters to destroy the Death Star.
