Crafts That Don't Involve Mines Quiz

It has recently come to my attention that "Minecraft" is too popular for its own good. Maybe some of you are allergic to mines; maybe you need other crafts. Here are ten other crafty games, out of fairness. Good luck!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you're looking for AIRCRAFT, you could always stop off on a Covenant planet and fly one of their Banshees in what Bungie-made Xbox game?

Answer: Halo

Banshees are some of the faster vehicles in "Halo" and, like the Ghost and the Wraith, are Covenant-made vehicles. While the Wraith can't be used in the original "Halo" game, the Banshee-- a flying craft-- and the Ghost-- a ground vehicle-- can. The Banshee has regular guns as well as, in later games, a stronger single burst shot which can be used to devastate targets with pinpoint accuracy. Human-made aircraft (other than the Pelican, used for transport purposes) do not appear in the "Halo" games until later in the series. You'll just have to make do with the Warthog.
2. What 'interactive mystery' for the PS3 utilized PAPERCRAFT and introduced players to the 'Origami Killer'?

Answer: Heavy Rain

"Heavy Rain", created by Quantic Dream was highly-praised for its story and visuals and brought a true mystery of blockbuster caliber to the medium. In the game you take on the role of several different player characters, all with ties to the infamous Origami Killer, known for drowning his victims and leaving an origami figure in their hands; said origami figure appears on several promotional pieces for the game as well as the cover in several regions. Rather than being combat-heavy, the game relied more on story-telling and quick-time events to move the story along.
3. Knowing a HANDICRAFT or two can help. In what game does the use of a Celestial Brush to draw onscreen help the main character?

Answer: Okami

"Okami", originally on the PS2 but later released for the Wii, was a Japanese-inspired game by Clover Studio placing the player into the role of Amaterasu, a Shinto Goddess in the form of a wolf. While the wolf alone could defeat enemies and accomplish tasks, much of the interaction with the environment in-game was done by drawing onscreen with a Celestial Brush, needed to draw specific formations and the like to unveil new areas, cut, swipe, draw, transform, etc.

When the Wii version was released, this element of the game took to the motion controls of the Wii Remote.

The game was critically lauded across all consoles.
4. The HOVERCRAFT is one of the three usable vehicles in what Rare-made Nintendo 64 racing title?

Answer: Diddy Kong Racing

"Diddy Kong Racing" brought Diddy Kong to Timber's Island in one of the most popular releases for the console. A fairly straightforward racing game masquerading as an adventure to stop the evil Wizpig from taking over, the game sent players through dinosaur domains, a snowy area, a beach scene, dragon-filled forests, and a space station while riding cars, planes, and hovercrafts.

The game also introduced two other video games: Banjo (of "Banjo-Kazooie" fame) and Conker (of "Conker's Bad Fur Day").

The game was remade by Rare for the Nintendo DS in 2007.
5. Captain Olimar pilots a Hocotate Freight SPACECRAFT in what 2001 Gamecube game?

Answer: Pikmin

A unique game for its time, "Pikmin" followed the crash-landing of Olimar's Hocotate Freight ship on a faraway planet known for its abundant Pikmin population. While many fearsome enemies would stand in the way, there would be the protection of red, blue, and yellow Pikmin, each with their own powers, to prevent Olimar from falling to them. On the same note, the Pikmin could be controlled to retrieve the important pieces needed for Olimar to get home.

The game was popular enough to warrant sequels and Olimar appeared in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" as a result.
6. The entirety of this "Mario" series game could've been considered STAGECRAFT as its battles were played on stages, like performances. What was the game?

Answer: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

While the previous game (for the N64) simply used the storybook angle to bring its paper-thin characters to life, "The Thousand Year Door" expanded on the platformer/RPG storytelling by setting all of its battles on a stage, imbuing characters with Star Points based on their feedback from the crowd.

In some battles, the crowd would become integral parts of the combat; one boss, notably, ate parts of the crowd. Of course, the turn-based combat system disappeared entirely from "Super Paper Mario" (Wii).
7. Which of these is not a "World of WARCRAFT" expansion?

Answer: Eye of the North

There have, of course, been numerous expansions for the MMORPG "World of Warcraft", based on Blizzard's original "Warcraft" franchise. Each expansion since the original 'vanilla' "WoW" has elaborated on the content, boosting players up in levels or stats, unlocking new or newly-redesigned zones, featuring new heroes and villains, and refreshing the game in general.

These have included "Burning Crusade" set in the Outlands, "Wrath of the Lich King" in the northern continents, "Cataclysm", "The Mists of Pandaria", and "Warlords of Draenor". "Eye of the North" was the final expansion for another MMORPG-- "Guild Wars"-- before its sequel was released.
8. Despite the ingenuity of WOODCRAFT, the Deku Shield is unable to withstand fire in what famous Nintendo 64 game?

Answer: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Deku Shield is one of the earliest items you get in "Ocarina of Time"-- you need to purchase it from the Deku Shop by searching for and saving up Rupees, otherwise you won't be granted access into the Great Deku Tree, the game's first dungeon. As you'll find out (if you face of against Fire Keese or fall into a pit of lava), the Deku Shield, despite being strong enough to fend off sword blows, can not withstand fire.

Instead, you'll need a Hylian Shield or Mirror Shield. Unfortunately, you can wield neither of them as a child.
9. Undeniably, there's a bit of WITCHCRAFT involved in what Nintendo 64 game featuring the rhyming hag Gruntilda as an antagonist?

Answer: Banjo-Kazooie

In this game from Rare originally spun off from "Diddy Kong Racing", a bear named Banjo and his Breegull sidekick, Kazooie, headed out on an adventure to save little bear sibling Tooty from Gruntilda, a witch whose lair above Spiral Mountain housed all sorts of dangers.

The puzzle-platformer ended up being a big hit for the console and spawned a couple sequels, notably "Banjo-Tooie" a few years later, before Rare was sold off to Microsoft. Gruntilda returned for "Banjo-Tooie" despite the fact that she was quite dead.

The couplets, however, did not.
10. "STARCRAFT" is, of course, set in space. Which of these is the Terran campaign of "Starcraft 2"?

Answer: Wings of Liberty

While "Starcraft 1" and "Brood War" were released in the 2000s (well...earlier on PC, as MMOs are apt to do), "Starcraft 2" was finally made available to gamers in the 2010s, splitting itself into three campaigns to be released over several years (but granting access to all three main races-- Terran, Zerg, and Protoss-- in online multiplayer battles.

The campaigns, however, were split across the early-released "Wings of Liberty" (Terran) in 2010, "Heart of the Swarm" (Zerg) in 2013, and "Legacy of the Void" (Protoss).

In all of these games, you lead an intergalactic army to victory by wiping out other players and their bases with tactical strikes.
