Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mekanos can be found in which of these locations?

Answer: On an island

Mekanos, the fourth stage of the game, is found on an island north of the starting bay, just offshore from Cotton-Top Cove. This area, a factory-laden locale in the middle of the forest, contains some of the first unnatural environments experienced by Kiddy and Dixie in the game.

Despite this, however, there are a few spots in Mekanos which are in natural locations (ie. the woods), but even these seem to have some sort of invasive element.
2. In Fire-Ball Frenzy, what types of animals shoot the Kongs with fireballs?

Answer: Owls

These owls, known as Karbines, hold devices that shoot large fireballs toward the screen, blocking Kongs with timed launches, causing them to bounce on the main platform. In all occasions, the Kongs can gather a pattern and avoid the shots entirely (while dodging their way over pits of lava).

This level is the first of many in the area to take place in a factory, a first for the the Kongs since the very first of the "Donkey Kong Country" games.
3. What is the name of the bear who resides in the barracks in Mekanos?

Answer: Bazooka

Bazooka's Barracks is accessible immediately after completing Fire-Ball Frenzy, and this particular bear likes his firepower. Really, Bazooka only becomes of use after you've beaten Mekanos fully. You need to get a present from Blizzard up at K3, give that to Blue in Cotton-Top Cove, and then have said item, a Bowling Ball, regifted to you to give to Bazooka. Once this is done, it will be used to load 'Big Bessie' and shoot the Kongs up to a hidden cavern known as Sky-High Secret where they can get a Banana Bird.
4. In Demolition Drainpipe, the Kongs' toboggan can jump onto enemies of all sorts.

Answer: True

Demolition Drainpipe takes the Kongs underground, into the drainpipes of Mekanos where dangers typically wouldn't be a hassle (considering the straight-forward tunnel system built beneath). Then again, this stage is completed entirely on a toboggan, forcing the Kongs ahead as though they were in a mine cart level from the games of yesteryear. Luckily, the Kongs can hang onto rails above the track and drop down onto enemies, spiky or not, provided they don't simply run into them.
5. In Ripsaw Rage, the ripsaw itself is found at which part of the stage?

Answer: The bottom

Ripsaw Rage, the third level of Mekanos, takes place in trees much like the ones found in Kremwood Forest, the second stage of the game. In this level, the aim is to reach the finishing point at the top of the trees. Doing so, however, will require some careful maneuvering through the trunks and branches while avoiding getting sliced up by a gigantic saw cutting along the bottom of the screen.

The saw will constantly rise, forcing the Kongs upward. This is the only stage with this painful gimmick.
6. Which Kong appears along the trail in Mekanos first: Wrinkly or Swanky?

Answer: Swanky

Once again, both Swanky and Wrinkly appear in the stage; Swanky provides entertainment in the form of his typical sideshow games (found directly after the Demolition Drainpipe level) while Wrinkly houses her Save Cave (and any Banana Birds) up in the top right corner of the stage map, right after Ripsaw Rage.

After these two side-locations, the rest of the stage is a straight path to the boss battle...through another couple of platforming levels.
7. Blazing Bazukas is the first level to use the S Barrel. What does the S stand for?

Answer: Switch

The S Barrel appears twice in Blazing Bazukas, the fourth level of the Mekanos stage. In this level, Kremlings with large, barrel-shooting cannons (bazukas) fire in a straight line towards the Kongs, sometimes creating hazards and sometimes creating crossable paths when necessary.

Some later Kremlings will fire TNT barrels, and using one of the S-Barrel switches allows Dixie and Kiddy to transform TNT barrels to regular ones from afar, creating less-hazardous conditions.
8. The environment found in the Low-G Labyrinth level allows the Kongs to do which of these?

Answer: Jump higher

The second of two tunnel stages found in Mekanos, the Low-G Labyrinth is much more complex than the earlier Demolition Drainpipe. In this level, the Kongs move much slower than normal, but jump much higher than usual, climbing through tunnels normally considered impossible.

The tunnels are filled with spiky enemies, and jumping over them is key; the last half of the level is actually completed with Quawks the Parrot, and while flying is much tougher, his ability to hover around makes the process a bit easier if you're dextrous enough.
9. KAOS, the final boss of Mekanos, needs to be hit on which body part to be defeated?

Answer: Head

KAOS Karnage is the last spot to visit in Mekanos, and unlike the previous three bosses of the game, KAOS is a robot and not an animal (or a barrel). For this battle, the Kongs need to hit KAOS' head, but he's actually too big to jump onto without help. Luckily, if Dixie and Kiddy can dodge his fire attacks he'll stop in the center of the arena and create platforms to give a boost.

After six hits to KAOS' head, he'll depart from the location, vowing revenge.
10. If you complete Mekanos fourth, you'll end up being able to use which of Funky's unique vehicles for the first time after its completion?

Answer: Turbo Skis

The Turbo Skis can only be used when Dixie and Kiddy retrieve the two separate skis from the boss battles at the end of Cotton-Top Cove and Mekanos, otherwise they'll be completely unable to climb past the waterfalls leading to the next destinations (K3 and Razor Ridge). Squirt, the cliff-slug, needs to be defeated to get one of the skis while KAOS will hand over the second upon his defeat.

This is the strongest watercraft in the game, but not the last vehicle whatsoever.
