Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where are we if we're competing in a timed race?

Answer: Kremwood Forest

The only timed race of the game is the aptly-named Riverside Race found midway through Kremwood Forest. This level, found in the first riverside environment of the game, takes us on an approximately one and a half minute course over and under a forest river in an attempt to evade a swarm of angry bees.

The level also ties into the local Brother Bear who, if we beat his personal best, will accidentally open up a route to the hidden Banana Bird cavern hiding in Kremwood.
2. Where are we if we're battling against Barbos?

Answer: Razor Ridge

Barbos is the final boss of the Razor Ridge stage, the sixth visited over the course of the game. The only underwater boss in any of the three SNES "Donkey Kong Country" games, Barbos forces us to transform into Enguarde the Swordfish to do battle. The fight takes place in three phases, all of which involve hitting Barbos, a large sea urchin, in his fleshy, central part when it's exposed.

When the battle ends, we'll be able to access one of the latest stages of the game-- KAOS Kore.
3. In which stage of the game are we if we're swimming alongside a Nibbla?

Answer: Cotton-Top Cove

Normally, Nibblas are fierce fish enemies which will not hesitate to take a bite out of us if we get too close. In the Fish Food Frenzy level of Cotton-Top Cove we're actually partnered up with a hungry fish who, if not fed the proper diet, will end up biting us instead.

The basic gist: if the Nibbla starts to look sick, we need to feed it something that's not spiky to sate its hunger. Although a lot of this stage seems to have significant water sections, only two of the levels are set underwater-- Fish Food Frenzy and Bazza's Blockade.
4. Where in the game are we if we're dodging lightning bolts?

Answer: KAOS Kore

The Lightning Lookout level of the game, the only one in which we need to dodge the natural dangers of the game instead of just enemies, is one of the latest in the game, being found near the end of the KAOS Kore region in the northern reach of the game.

In this level, we need to cross a stage plagued by timed lightning shots which will bolt straight down at us. Fortunately, these can be blocked if we stand under enemies or barriers. On the same note, this is also the only riverside level of the game played at night.
5. In which region of the game are we if we're giving someone a seashell?

Answer: Lake Orangatanga

The seashell is likely the earliest instance in the game where we can trade with the Brothers Bear. By purchasing the seashell from Bazaar the Bear in his trading post (for five Bear Coins) and bringing it to Barnacle Bear's house in the middle of Lake Orangatanga we can receive a Banana Bird for our efforts. Every region of the game contains at least one bear to visit, and many of them will ask for something (or, rather, ask that we don't do something in some cases).
6. Where in the game are we if we're stopping in at the Glacial Grotto?

Answer: K3

The Glacial Grotto is one of the many hidden Banana Bird caverns found throughout the game, and because of its location in one of the later stages of "Donkey Kong Country 3", it's one of the more difficult ones to get through. In Banana Bird Caves, the goal is for us to hit the buttons on the controller to correspond with the crystals in the cave. Doing so releases the trapped Banana Bird. To get to this cave, we need to get to Blizzard's Base Camp and head westward into the snowdrifts beyond.
7. In which region of the game are we if we're racing through a low-gravity storm drain?

Answer: Mekanos

The level we must be in now should be the Low-G Labyrinth, the final level of Mekanos before going face to face with the area's boss-- KAOS. In this level, we travel through a storm drain (a setting later encountered in the KAOS Kore region) devoid of normal gravity, so all jumps are actually more dangerous as we soar upwards at an alarming rate (and drop slowly). Mekanos, a very mechanical-centric island, is filled with factory-themed levels.
8. If we're using Parry the Parallel Bird, then we can't possibly be in which of these areas?

Answer: Lake Orangatanga

Parry the Parallel Bird can only be found in a small fraction of the forty levels of the game, once in Kremwood Forest, once in Cotton-Top Cove, once in K3, and once in Razor Ridge. As such, we can't make use of Parry in the game's first stage, Lake Orangatanga, though a wide array of other animal buddies can be found in that stage. Parry is the only animal buddy that we can't ride; he actually flies overhead (at the same distance no matter what), and he can be used to get items we can't normally reach.
9. Where in the game are we if we're boarding the Knautilus?

Answer: Krematoa

The Knautilus is the final stand of the game where we'll go head-to-head against K. Rool for a second time and bring him to his just end (the first time is at the end of KAOS Kore). To reach Krematoa in the first place, we need to bring the volcano area up from the depths of the water. To get to the Nautilus, we actually need to obtain all of the Bonus Coins in the game by finding and completing all of the Bonus Barrels. Working in conjunction with Boomer, the last Bear Brother, we can make a path and claim the gears needed to make the Knautilus rise from the crater in the center of Krematoa.
10. If we're playing "Donkey Kong Country 3" (SNES), which level could we be in?

Answer: Fish Food Frenzy

Fish Food Frenzy is found in the Cotton-Top Cove stage of the game and, thus, if we're playing the SNES version of the game, we'd have to choose that selection, made notable by the Nibbla following the Kongs through the level, simply looking for a snack. All three of the other selections are levels found in the GBA exclusive area known as Pacifica.

This stage was only created for the handheld version of the game and would not make sense for answer selections in this case; we'd need to be in a different place altogether.

This insists that the GBA version of the game contains nine stages instead of the SNES version's eight.
