Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Dance Dance Revolution" is one of those games that really doesn't need violence to play, and it's great for burning off those extra calories as well. What is the name of the UK version of this game?

Answer: Dancing Stage

"Dance Dance Revolution" has to be one of my favourite video games because it's seemingly-never-ending and fun. In each game, you can work your way up through Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, and beyond as you play tons of neat songs and interesting games. Along with the difficulty ratings, songs are rated by footprints as well.

Many home games contain mission modes and quest modes to add something extra to the game. These can often add unlockable songs or avatars to your library. If you can't pick up a home version, there's likely to be an arcade version in a nearby arcade.

These often feature extensive lists of songs which sample from nearly every game. There are different versions in Japan, North America, and Europe.
2. The "Carmen Sandiego" series is more educational than violent. In fact, it's another one of those games that bars extreme violence completely. Which of these choices is not an edition of a "Carmen Sandiego" game?

Answer: Where in New York is Carmen Sandiego?

The "Carmen Sandiego" series was more concerned with teaching geography, history, sciences, math, and English to players than to have anything to do with violence. In most of the games, you need to travel from place to place (usually around the world or through time) in order to find clues that will lead you to the criminal you're hunting for. If you have all of your eye-witness reports straight and you're close to the criminal, you can put them behind bars.

The game progressively gets harder as you move along.

The original game in the series, "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" was so popular in the 90s that it spawned board games, puzzles, and a popular TV game show.
3. If you're looking for a great non-violent, yet old arcade game, you should be playing "Tetris". It's definitely less violent than eating helpless ghosts in "Pac-Man", and it's much safer than crossing a busy street in "Frogger". How many different tetrads can fall down your screen in "Tetris"?

Answer: Seven

"Tetris" was created in Russia in the mid-eighties and has grown to be known as one of the most basic-seeming games in the video game world. Of course, it's not really basic at all. Each tetrad consists of four blocks, and there are seven different four-blocked shapes that each will fall in.

When you fill a whole line in your playing area, it will eliminate itself and you'll gain points. As you go through the game, the blocks will fall faster and faster. Once you've mastered that, there are many different versions of the game including "Tetrisphere" for the N64.

In this game, you have to move pieces of tetrads around a sphere in order to reach the center of the structure.
4. Although they can pass away, "The Sims" usually live life without a lot of violence. What name were Sims given in the sixth-generation console game subtitled "Sims in the City"?

Answer: The Urbz

In "The Urbz", players needed to make themselves popular in the boroughs of Sim City. Throughout the game, 'The Urbz' need to earn reputation in order to move into large apartments, and be able to access the different neighbourhoods around town. By buying cool clothing and items, your Sim can become the most popular person in the city. Along with generic tasks like 'live in your house' and 'buy furniture', your Sim can also experience new jobs and spray graffiti all over the city. Along with the sixth-generation consoles, this game is also playable on the Game Boy Advance and the Nintendo DS.
5. Before "The Sims" was even released, this game was the best-selling PC game of all time. What game is this?

Answer: Myst

Although all of these don't really use violence, "Myst" is the only one to sell more than six million units in the nineties. The game begins the best-selling "Myst" series which also includes "Riven", "Exile", and "Uru". The story has also led to a series of books, and the game has been re-released featuring new ages and features.

The games sequels, have ranged from new single-player games to MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games). "Myst: Uru" is quite different from the other games because it lets you have an avatar to play as. None of these games really contain violence.
6. "Harvest Moon" has always been a great series of games, and there's no possible way that you'll ever see blood in it. Which system was the original "Harvest Moon" released on?

Answer: SNES

"Harvest Moon" is a great farming simulator and all-around fun game that one can get addicted to. Although one may think that the game is simply based around droning every-day farm tasks, there is much more than that. You can care for animals, work on the farm, build a better house, and do fun stuff all over town.

In the later "Harvest Moon" games, players could venture around the surrounding area whether it be up mountains, through caves, or to a beach. In the games, players could also care for many animals including cats, dogs, horses, sheep, chickens, and cows.
7. In "Rollercoaster Tycoon", players can intentionally drown guests or crash coasters, but this can't be done in "SimTheme Park"! Which of these games was made after "SimTheme Park" was released?

Answer: SimCoaster

Although "SimCoaster" is the correct game, "SimPark" is also a "Sim"-themed game created by the same company. Although "SimCoaster" is more recent, there are a few disadvantages to it. First, there's fewer parks, and guests tend to stay closer to attractions at the front of your park. Also, while "SimTheme Park" was for both the PC and Playstation, "SimCoaster" was only for the PC. "SimTheme Park" was also released with a 'Gold Edition' disk which featured more rides and features.
8. "Tamagotchi" was a virtual pet craze that swept the planet in the late nineties. Which of these is not an activity you could do with your "Tamagotchi"?

Answer: Read it a story

"Tamagotchis" were released for the first time in the nineties and became an instant fad. Soon, other companies began to copy Bandai's idea with other virtual pets. Even Nintendo created the 'Pokémon Pikachu'. Over the years, "Tamagotchi" has spawned many sequels and has been released on many systems such as the Game Boy and the Nintendo DS.

In many of these, your "Tamagotchis" can evolve and play different games. The name of the game is derived from the Japanese word 'Tamago', which means egg, and 'Chi', which means love.
9. "Animal Crossing" is a popular Gamecube game that has become popular because it's played in real-time. What was the name of its first sequel, released on the Nintendo DS?

Answer: Animal Crossing: Wild World

In the "Animal Crossing" games, players move to a quaint town filled with animals just going through daily activities such as running a shop, fishing, or performing a service for the residents of the town. You can build your house and get a job as well as fill your house with plenty of goodies.

In Japan, the game is known as "Animal Forest", and the "Wild World" sequel is playable on the DS. Using the DS' wi-fi capabilities, you can go further than you have before in an "Animal Crossing" game.
10. Which game allows players to use bongo drums to play music and mini-games?

Answer: Donkey Konga

The "Donkey Konga" series for the Gamecube contains three games with different songlists. These games also have different songlists throughout the world. The European (PAL) version has some different songs from the North American version. Although these three games use the bongos, there is only one other game that will use them. "Donkey Kong Jungle Beat" allows players to use the bongos to compete in battles and have fun in a great platformer game.
