Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In an epic dungeon, it is highly recommended that you come with a well balanced party. The game itself typically recommends (and enforces, if you use the public server) three DPS (Damage Per Second; specializes in dealing as much damage as possible and as quickly) characters, one tank, and one cleric loadout. Having said that, you will want to acquaint yourself to the game's classes, and which ones fall under which category. Which of the following is NOT something you would want if you were searching for a DPS class?

Answer: Guardian Fighter

Great Weapon Fighters are often thought of as the best DPS based class in the game. This is because they are bulkier than Hunter Rangers and hit harder than Scourge Warlocks and other DPS based builds. Although Hunter Rangers definitely pair better with tanks, such as Guardian Fighters or Oathbound Paladins, Great Weapon Fighters typically outperform Hunter Rangers in most other areas due to their more self efficate nature. Guardian Fighter is ultimately the odd one out here, as they are by far the worst class in the game for DPS based strategies. Thankfully, they more than make up for it by easily being the better of the two options between themselves and Oathbound Paladins for tanks. Guardian Fighters are much, much bulkier and have a much better set of tools in their Powers than Paladins do that are conducive to their job. Guardian Fighters typically struggle greatly when playing solo because, while they are near impossible for most of the game's foes to kill, they themselves have a difficult time actually killing things. Hunter Rangers are a solid choice for a DPS loadout.

While they are typically quite frail and cannot take too many hits, they dish out plenty of damage themselves. Since Hunter Rangers keep their opponents at long distance with whatever bow they have at their disposal, they make for better partners to Guardian Fighters than Great Weapon Fighters do. This is because, when paired with Great Weapon Fighters, there is more pressure and less of a margin of error for Guardian Fighters to ensure that their threat level is as high as possible, thus ensuring the area's enemies are focused on them. With Great Weapon Fighters needing to fight up close, it is very easy for a Guardian Fighter to lose track of a pack of enemies and have a few slip through the cracks, targeting the Great Weapon Fighters instead. Since Hunter Rangers will typically stand behind Guardian Fighters and provide their damage that way, this factor is not in play, relieving Guardian Fighters significantly and allowing them to do their jobs much, much easier.
2. One of the most well paying epic dungeons in the game, what does ETOS stand for?

Answer: Epic Temple Of Spiders

The Epic Temple Of Spiders is arguably the most profitable epic dungeon to run. Unlike most other epics, the mini bosses in ETOS provide the party each with Seals upon defeating them. The dungeon itself is also bigger and longer than most other epics in the game (with the exceptions being Malabog's Castle and Tomb of the Nine Gods) meaning that there are naturally more opportunities to find rare goods off of a dead enemy.
3. The Elemental Evil campaign is the longest non-daily campaign in the game. It is truly a doozy: four cults, spread out between four different areas in Drowned Shore, Reclamation Rock, Fiery Pit and Spinward Rise, demand your attention. Which of the following is a name of one of the Elemental Cults?

Answer: Cult of the Howling Hatred

The Cult of the Howling Hatred, the final of the four cults, is found at Spinward Rise. The Cult of the Eternal Flame spearheads the attack on the Fiery Pit. Reclamation Rock, meanwhile, is being assaulted by the Cult of the Black Earth. Finally, the first of the four maps, Drowned Shore, is inhabited by the Cult of the Crushing Wave. Each of the four Cults will, upon defeating them, grant the player a boon, useful for development of their character and for boosting the character's item level.
4. How many times per day may a player pray to their deity of choice and receive a reward?

Answer: Six

The rewards granted to the player differ depending on how many times they've prayed. Depending on the prayer, the player will receive some assortment of experience points, an Invocation Blessing, Rough Astral Diamonds, and/or an Ardent Coin, Celestial Coin, Celestial Bag of Refining, and Copper.

The time a player must wait to make their next prayer increases accordingly with how many prayers they've gone through, with the final prayer forcing players to then wait until 6 AM the next day to restart the cycle.
5. What types of Heroic Encounters will allow the player to complete daily quests in areas such as Icewind Dale and Dread Ring?

Answer: Demonic

Demonic Heroic Encounters are, thankfully, fairly straightforward. The two most popular ones are Demonic Slaughter and Demonic Closure. The former is self explanatory; you show up and begin killing every Demon in sight until time runs out(signaling a failure on your end to kill enough demons in the time allotted) or you've killed all the Demons.

In Demonic Closure, it works quite similarly, only this time you are trying to protect a Harper Wizard from the Demons, as she attempts to place a Harper Seal on a Demonic Portal.

The third and fairly oddball out is Demonic Escape. While it is by no means flawed mechanically, and is arguably no harder than the aforementioned two, it does not attract the popularity that the other two do. Here, there is a portal in the middle of eight other bigger portals. Demons will emerge out of the portal, but instead of coming right after you, anyone in your party, or your companion, they will attempt to reach the middle portal. Your goal, for five minutes, is to prevent too many Demons from reaching this portal. Accomplishing any of these encounters with nine or more adventurers will trigger a second Demonic Heroic Encounter, which will entail a Nalfeshnee spawning and attacking the party.
6. Upon returning Bruenor Battlehammer to the throne in the Underdark campaign, he will reward you with an artifact by the name of "Bruenor's Helm." When used, this artifact will spawn a small area for thirty seconds where everything inside of it gets afflicted by a power that is exclusive to itself only. What is this power called?

Answer: Throne of the Dwarven Gods

The effect inside the moderately sized area grants everything standing inside it "Throne of the Dwarven Gods." Depending on who, or what, is in the circle, this effects has differing impact. Allies will receive a 50% buff to their Movement in addition to a minor buff to their Life Steal and Defense. Enemies will be docked 25% of their Movement while inside the circle, and if the enemies are Demons, that number gets kicked up to 50%.

This is sneakily useful for the Demonic Heroic Encounter of Demonic Closure: you can slow down Demons attempting to attack the Harper Wizard, and you can potentially kill or distract them before they reach her a bit easier.

This operates under a similar aspect in Demonic Escape, as slowing down the Demons attempting to reach the middle portal makes keeping them from reaching it easier.
7. In the Cloak Tower dungeon, what do Vansi Bloodscar (boss) and Throg the Ravenous (mini boss) have in common that Makred the Foul (mini boss) does not have?

Answer: An attack with significant knockback

Both Vansi and Throg can cause significant knockback if their Flurry of Blows attack strikes you in full. This can be avoided if you are a Guardian Fighter, as simply putting up your shield against this attack blocks the knockback completely. Makred can boast that he has an attack that flat out knocks you prone, but Vansi's Flurry of Blows also knocks you prone in addition to the knockback, so this is not really an advantage.
8. If you want to ever complete the Underdark campaign and receive your boons, you will need to process a certain component that will allow you to work towards these boons. What is this element?

Answer: Faezress

Demonic Ichor is really the only odd one out here, as the other three options are campaign currencies that you need to complete various campaigns for boons. Faezress is the Underdark currency. It takes twenty hours to process, and each time you successfully do so, you rise your completion of the campaign up by a notch. You need 200 Faezress in order to begin processing it.

This can be obtained through fighting the Demogorgon, completing the Prophecy of Madness or Throne of the Dwarven Gods skirmishes, or completing Demonic Heroic Encounters. Tales of Adventure is a reasonable guess to this question's answer, as it is obtained through missions received within the Underdark, but it is the campaign currency for the Maze Engine campaign, not the Underdark one. Thayan Relics are for the Dread Ring campaign.
9. Scenario: You are a Hunter Ranger, and your party is running through Valindra's Tower. Upon reaching Valindra, the party's Guardian Fighter all of a sudden, at the speed of light, shoots up towards Valindra and begins attacking her. Shortly before doing this, Valindra's body was marked with a big red X. What did the Guardian Fighter do here?

Answer: Marked Valindra and then proceeded to use Lunging Strike

If you got this question wrong, then let this be a warning to you: ALWAYS let the tank of the party do this upon reaching the final boss in an epic dungeon before proceeding to attack the boss. In this scenario, by Marking Valindra, the Guardian Fighter has slightly lowered Valindra's Damage Resistance and has also slightly lowered her overall Damage output. By using Lunging Strike, the Guardian Fighter has not only taken the lead, but he/she has now struck Valindra, of whom he/she just Marked, which allows them to generate Threat quickly.

This ensures Valindra's attention stays on the Guardian Fighter and not the party's DPS units or cleric. It's not uncommon for a Guardian Fighter to cast Into the Fray before using Lunging Strike, so don't be confused if the Guardian Fighter does this before using Lunging Strike.
10. Another scenario: your party is back is Valindra's Tower. You just passed through the first Magical gate. The scene in front of you consists of a pack of Imps, two Conjuring Red Wizards, six Servitors, and four Infernal Portals. Which of this group is the most important unit to eliminate first?

Answer: Infernal Portals

The Servitors are of barely any significance; they do not possess any particular attribute or skill worthy of your immediate attention. The Imps fall under a similar line of thinking, although they could potentially become problematic, given that they are fast and can gain Combat Advantage fairly easily. Conjuring Red Wizards are important, because they can summon Mirror Images and Legion Devils to join the fight.

However, Infernal Portals are significantly more threatening than all of these units combined.

The reason is simple; if left to their own devices, these Portals would endlessly summon Imps, Conjuring Red Wizards and Legion Devils until the end of time. They summon more in bulk and they do so faster than Conjuring Red Wizards. Make sure you have a plan to remove them from play quickly upon initiating conflict, or your party will be very easily overwhelmed.
11. If the game asks you to kill a certain number of Demons, and you slay a Legion Devil summoned by a Red Wizard, will this kill contribute towards the number of Demons you need to kill?

Answer: No

A common misconception is that the very terms "Devil" and "Demon" are synonymous. In actuality, this couldn't be further from the truth. Think of it like comparing the difference between dogs and amphibians. Devils are a very specific species, and as such, they may have variations in their appearance, but they will always hold the same core characteristics and structure as one another. On the other hand, there more types of Demons in the world of mythology than there are states in all of North and South America put together, and a lot of them have entirely differing characteristics and structure from one another.

In "Neverwinter", plenty of people will struggle with missions that pertain to killing Demons, because they will think things such as Legion Devils fall under that category.
12. If I was in the Seven Suns Market at Protector's Enclave, and I wanted to visit the Seals Vendor to buy some Azure Enchantments, what currency should I be prepared to pay with in order to purchase these?

Answer: Seals of the Adventurer

Seals of the Adventurer are, thankfully, fairly easy to obtain. A quick ten minute run through the Cloak Tower dungeon can potentially yield as many as 400 Seals of the Adventurer, which would allow you to then buy four Enchantments of your choice from this Vendor.
13. In the Sea of Moving Ice, there is an ancient myth that suggests that doing something while in conflict will summon the Great Walrus, who will promptly kill you. What would invoke this Walrus' wrath?

Answer: Fleeing from combat

If you are in the midst of combat and attempt to flee, doing so would entail you leaving the iceberg you are on and entering the water. While normally you don't need to manually use your boat, since it is automatically spawned upon you entering the water, if you try this while in the middle of combat, the boat doesn't spawn. You subsequently sink in the freezing cold water, drowning to your doom.
14. If you were attempting to complete the epic dungeons of Malabog's Castle or Valindra's Tower by yourself, what would be the most important item to take with you to improve your chances of successfully completing them?

Answer: Mass Scroll of Life

The one key element of both of these boss fights stems from within Valindra herself. In Malabog's Castle, at any given point, Valindra will select a player at random, lift them into the air, and begin to drain them of their health. Unfortunately for the player, there is no defense against this, whether you would want to prepare for the blow or escape it, this is ultimately impossible to do. Because of how abruptly Valindra can kill you, it only stands to reason that you would want a way of returning to the fight, ideally without restarting the entire conflict again.

This is where the Mass Scroll of Life comes in; it grants you a get out of jail free card, as a means of defending against Valindra shutting your attack down. This operates under the same effect on Valindra's Tower, as Valindra can do largely the same thing to you here.
15. The antagonist of the game and the very ire of a large majority of the player community, what is Valindra's last name?

Answer: Shadowmantle

Valindra Shadowmantle is the nastiest, most oppressive, and most sadistic character in the game, despite not being the entire game's final boss. Valindra has some of the most wicked and ghastly ways she can kill you: she can drain the life out of you without any warning on Malabog's Castle, she can squeeze the life out of you with a gigantic hand on Valindra's Tower, and in both maps, she can blow up portions of the battlefield at a time, with the blasts instantly killing anyone who gets caught in them. Valindra's soul is just as ugly as her body is, as her face is horribly deformed, with her being undead and all. Valindra teases the player and informs them of their eternal enslavement should they fall to her in Valindra's Tower, and the prelude of this dungeon has Valindra ordering her guards to bring your skulls to her tower. Truly, Valindra is the game's epitomization of evil. For Guardian Fighters, it is considered to be the most difficult accomplishment in the entire game to single handedly bring Valindra down, as the number of ways she has of bypassing your amazing bulk with instant-killing maneuvers render your added defenses near useless, and really force your passivity to stick out like a sore thumb.
