The Cat's Meow Trivia Quiz

"Meow." said the cat, pawing at the controller on the sofa. "Yes," I said. "I'm playing a game with a cat in it. Do you want to see some other games with cats in them?" I got a waft of tuna breath in reply.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Okay, how about this one? It's about a cat with a device that can control time. Let me just dust off the old Xbox. See, it's fun." "Meow." Which Xbox game from 2002 features a cat with a sort of time machine-cum-vacuum cleaner?

Answer: Blinx: The Time Sweeper

This platforming game from Artoon features the titular Blinx, a Time Sweeper Agent of the Time Factory. He sets out to rescue a damsel in distress from a volatile dimension, which is in danger of being shut down by the Time Factory to preserve the safety of the rest of the universe.

The Time Sweeper device which Blinx wields has the power to control some aspects of time, such as slowing it down, speeding it up and rewinding to undo actions.
2. "Look, Skitty and Delcatty. They're Pokemon that look like cats. See? This one looks a bit like you. I think I'll rename it in your honour." "Meow." In which 'Pokemon' games did Skitty and Delcatty first appear?

Answer: Ruby / Sapphire

Both Skitty and Delcatty made their debut appearance in the 'Pokemon' world in Generation III on the GameBoy Advance. Skitty are found up and down Route 116 in the Hoenn region between Rustboro City and Verdanturf Town, but its evolved form, Delcatty, cannot be captured in the wild.

The only way to obtain a Delcatty in 'Pokemon Ruby' and 'Pokemon Sapphire' is to use a Moon Stone on a Skitty. When encountering a Skitty in the wild, it will almost always be a female. Males are less common, outnumbered by their female counterparts by three to one.
3. "Look! Here are some cats, in this game. Mind you, there are some dogs in it too. I doubt you'd like that, eh?" "Meow." 'Nintendogs + Cats' was released in 2011 for which Nintendo system?

Answer: 3DS

Like the 'Nintendogs' series that came before as launch titles for the Nintendo DS, 'Nintendogs + Cats' was a launch title for the Nintendo 3DS. Utilising the 3DS's camera and microphone, players can interact with their virtual pets, teach them tricks, and even have them participate in competitions.
4. "Look! A big cat! He's got quite an obvious name. Big the Cat. I know! Odd, isn't it?" "Meow." In which video game series would you find Big the Cat?

Answer: Sonic

Big the Cat joined the 'Sonic' universe in 'Sonic Adventures' for the Dreamcast and later GameCube and PC. Despite his size, Big is a friendly character who is frequently seen with Froggy, his best friend. Big the Cat has made many appearances through the series, including the subsequent 'Sonic Adventure' games and cameo appearances in others.
5. "Ooh, a robotic cat. How cool! That's definitely up your street. You'll like this one." "Meow." Tango, the robotic cat, features in which series of video games?

Answer: Mega Man

Tango is Mega Man's pet cat and first appeared in 'Mega Man V'. As a creation of Dr. Light, Tango will attack enemies when used. Tango isn't Mega Man's only pet - Dr. Light also created Rush, a robotic dog, though the pets tend not to get on with each other, mimicking real life interactions between cats and dogs.
6. "Oh look! More cat Pokemon! Come on, you must like these ones. There's three! All in the same evolution chain! Don't just meow at me again." "Meow." Shinx, Luxio and Luxray joined the 'Pokemon' universe in which games?

Answer: Diamond / Pearl

While Skitty and Delcatty from Generation III 'Pokemon' games had the appearance of domestic cats, this set of three Electric-type Pokemon from Generation IV resemble lions at various stages of their life. Shinx, a cute lion cub, is the first of the evolution chain, and evolves into Luxio at level 15. Resembling what can only be described as a 'teenage' lion, Luxio becomes Luxray at level 30. Both Shinx and Luxio can be found in the wild, with the latter being considerably less common than the former. Luxray, however, can only be obtained in 'Diamond', 'Pearl', 'Platinum', 'HeartGold' and 'SoulSilver' by evolving Luxio.
7. "Okay, so you want to play as a cat? And wield all manner of weapons? And use magic? Well, lookie here. You can do all three as a Khajiit! Aren't they awesome?" "Meow." The Khajiit are a race of cat-like creatures from which epic series of role-playing games, set across the land of Tamriel?

Answer: The Elder Scrolls

These anthropomorphic cat-like creatures hail from Elsweyr, a province of Tamriel located south of Cyrodiil (where the events of 'The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion' take place). Khajiit have an inherent aptitude for stealth and subterfuge, and are as agile as any feline.

The Khajiit appeared in the very first game, 'The Elder Scrolls: Arena', as did their home province, and are one of the more popular races to play as and encounter.
8. "Na-na na-na na-na na... what? Oh, right. It's a woman in a cat suit. Meow indeed. Move away from the screen, I can't see the game. Oi, down in front!" "Meow." Did Catwoman appear in the 2011 game 'Batman: Arkham City'?

Answer: Yes

Catwoman (real name Selina Kyle) appears very early in the game, as she infiltrates the infamous Arkham City Prison to steal a memory card from the villainous Harvey Dent, AKA Two-Face. Despite her attempts to fend off Two-Face's henchmen, she is captured and faces death. Fortunately, Bruce Wayne, or rather Batman, comes to her rescue in the nick of time. From then on, Catwoman appears several more times throughout the game, often as a playable character, as she continues to hunt for Two-Face. Though she didn't make a physical appearance in 'Batman: Arkham Asylum', her trademark mask and gloves can be seen in a display case in Arkham Mansion.
9. "That's not a cat, although he does look like one. He's got the tail and the ears and the cute, little nose. He's an alien cat. A Lombax." "Meow." Which intergalactic Lombax from the planet Veldin was once a mechanic, before befriending a small robot called Clank, becoming a master of weird and wonderful weapons and saving the universe from all manner of threats?

Answer: Ratchet

Once a humble mechanic, Ratchet became an intergalactic hero thanks to a small robot which crash landed near his home and the events that followed. After vanquishing Chairman Drek, exposing Captain Qwark, quelling the Protopet threat, and thwarting Doctor Nefarious' efforts to take over the universe in the original PlayStation 2 trilogy, Ratchet, and indeed his best friend Clank, set the precedent for all intergalactic heroes to come. Though he once believed that he was the last of the Lombaxes, Ratchet met up with Angela Cross in 'Ratchet and Clank 2' and Alister Azimuth in 'Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time', the latter being a close friend of Ratchet's father, Kaden.
10. "Right, this time I've got you. It's the most famous cat Pokemon. Surely you must have something else for me apart from a meow. Please?" "Meow." "That's it. I'm going to bed." Meowth first appeared in 'Pokemon Gold' and 'Pokemon Silver'.

Answer: False

Undoubtedly one of the most recognisable cat Pokemon in the series (thanks to its memorable portrayal in the television anime), Meowth made its first appearance in the original line-up of 151 Pokemon in Generation I. While Meowth appears to be a playful, inquisitive kitten, its evolution at level 28, Persian, adopts a more lithe, feline air.

It's no wonder therefore that Persian is described in the Pokedex as a 'Classy Cat Pokemon' while Meowth is a 'Scratch Cat Pokemon'.
