Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dendar the Night Serpent

Answer: Forgotten Realms

'Forgotten Realms' is part of the role-playing game 'Dungeons and Dragons', available on various platforms. Dendar is a female serpent, who has been collecting the nightmares of men since the beginning of time and can release them back into the world to cause distress. She is also known as Nidhogg, originally the serpent from Norse myth, who also wants to destroy the world of men.
2. Bowser

Answer: Super Mario

Bowser is one of the best known characters from video games, being one of the enemies in Nintendo's 'Super Mario' games. Bowser resembles a turtle, armed with spikes on his shell and fire breathing. His first appearance came in 1985, in 'Super Mario Bros.', with his aim being to kidnap the princess of the game.
3. Tortimer

Answer: Animal Crossing

Another Nintendo game, this time featuring a tortoise named Tortimer, who is rather more benign than most of the creatures in this quiz. 'Animal Crossing' allows players to move into a town and take part in the day to day activities. Tortimer is the elderly mayor of the town, who walks with the aid of a stick (cane).

In later games, he is depicted as having retired to live on Tortimer Island.
4. Noodle

Answer: Snake Pass

'Snake Pass' was released in the early part of 2017 for various platforms, including Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Noodle is the hero of the game, and is a brightly coloured snake based on the venomous coral snake. Noodle appears friendly, though, and players have to manoeuvre him around the game to collect various items.

He, and players, can call upon the assistance of Doodle, his blue hummingbird friend.
5. King K. Rool

Answer: Donkey Kong

The leader of the Kremlings, King K. Rool is a crocodile and the main enemy of Donkey Kong. Created by Nintendo, his first appearance was in 1994, in 'Donkey Kong Country' and King K. Rool has appeared in many other games in the Kong series.
6. Espio

Answer: Sonic the Hedgehog

Espio is a purple chameleon, who is a detective with the Chaotix Detective Agency, along with Vector, who would also have fitted in this quiz, being a crocodile, and Charmy Bee, who is, as you might have guessed, a bee. The 'Sonic the Hedgehog' franchise dates from 1991 and was originally created for the Sega Genesis console.
7. Coily

Answer: Q*bert

Q*bert was developed as an arcade game, first appearing in 1982. Q*bert himself is a rather strange looking orange creature, with a nose that looks like a sawn off hosepipe. Coily is one of the creatures that impeded Q*bert's progress through the game. Coily begins as an egg before hatching into a purple coloured snake, with tight coils (hence the name), which chases after Q*bert.
8. Bentley

Answer: Sly Cooper

The first 'Sly Cooper' game came out in 2002 on the PlayStation consoles. Sly Cooper is a raccoon, with Bentley being depicted as the computer expert of Sly's gang. Bentley himself is a turtle, who needs to wear glasses due to his poor sight and has been in a wheelchair since being injured in the second game of the series.

His skills mean that he has been able to adapt the wheelchair with gadgets, making him more mobile than when he was able to walk.
9. Histup

Answer: Banjo-Kazooie

'Banjo-Kazooie' dates from 1998 and made its first appearance on the Nintendo 64. Banjo the bear and Kazooie the bird meet a snake charmer named Rubee during their quest. Giving Rubee an offering, or five, means he will charm Histup out of the basket allowing him to reach items located too high for the duo to get any other way. Histup is depicted as a green snake, so is possibly a cobra.
10. Charmander

Answer: Pokémon

Even the non video games players among us will probably have come across the Pokémon franchise created by Nintendo. Charmander is a lizard, with a tail which has to be kept burning to keep the character alive. The name is a combination of 'salamander' and 'char', meaning slightly burned. Charmander is a basic Pokémon, who can evolve into other characters as players progress through the games.
