Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Quite notably, Alterac Mountains was once the home of Dalaran. Where can players reach Dalaran instead?

Answer: Northrend

Although Dalaran had always been blocked off to players by a large dome-like barrier, the events shortly preceding "Wrath of the Lich King" sent Dalaran skyward, leaving a large crater in its original place. Now, to reach Dalaran, players need to be in their level 60s or 70s (or higher) and they need to travel to the region of Northrend to find it. Dalaran is the main city for the expansion, and players can access it from Crystalsong Forest in the center of the continent. Players can also drop down into Dalaran Crater to look around in Alterac Mountains, but it's doubtful you'll find much of anything.
2. There are two flightpath locations in Alterac Mountains- one is neutral and one is for Alliance players.

Answer: False

The Alterac Mountains is one of two zones in the original "World of Warcraft" to contain no flightpath locations of any type- the other is Deadwind Pass. Because of this, players will need to make use of adjacent zones in order to travel in and out of Alterac. For Horde players, Tarren Mill is closest and for Alliance players, you'd need to visit Chillwind Camp. Both of these towns will give you quite easy access to Alterac's southern and northern reaches respectively, so long as you move around the mountain ranges marking the perimeter of the region.
3. Which location does not contain Syndicate members?

Answer: Gavin's Naze

While Gavin's Naze, like Sofera's Naze, is simply an outcrop of land stretching over Hillsbrad Foothills, Sofera's Naze contains Syndicate members while Gavin's Naze only contains wild animals (mostly lions). The Syndicate are a criminal group based for the most part in the Alterac Mountain region. Players can earn reputation with these people if they decide to kill members of Ravenholdt who are also in Hillsbrad Foothills. On the other hand their headquarters, Ravenholdt Manor, is in Alterac Mountains. Syndicate Sentries, Saboteurs, Assassins, and Spies can be found throughout the region in the mid-level 30s range.
4. What creatures can be found around Gallow's Corner?

Answer: Ogres

Gallow's Corner is a small area in the center of the zone in the snowy, mountainous area marking an intersection between the west-east and north-south paths through the zone. Comprised of a few ruins and a single large tower (possibly a guard tower), the area has been overrun by mountain trolls of many types, and while they only reach the mid-level 30s, they shouldn't be too difficult for players to beat (although they do pack a punch). None of the other types of creatures appear in the zone though Syndicate members and wild cats can be seen in the less snowy locales.
5. Growless Cave is home to what Yeti boss?

Answer: Frostmaw

Growless Cave, a small cavern in the snowier part of Alterac Mountains, is usually guarded by many mid-level 30 yetis who have strong attack and defense compared to other monsters. The notable thing about this location is the fact that players can fight Frostmaw, a level 37 yeti, can be summoned here if a player places a Fresh Carcass of meat on the Flame of Uzel. Only Horde players can complete the 'Frostmaw' quest, found in Thunder Bluff, in order to gain reputation or experience.
6. Narillasanz, a recurring fixture of this zone, is what colour dragon?

Answer: Red

Red Dragonflight are typically associated with Life as an attribute, and the appearance of Narillasanz in the otherwise chilly Alterac Mountains region is quite the odd one. Usually in the mid-level 40s range, this elite dragon boss is probably the most difficult creature to appear in the entire zone (normally in the level 30-40 range.

Although none of the game's quests pertain to this dragon, it is able to be defeated, though at the zone's level range, you may want to wait until your in your 50s before you attempt such a dangerous task. Narillasanz can be found almost anywhere in the greener regions of the zone.
7. What is the name of the battleground accessed from this zone?

Answer: Alterac Valley

The highest-leveled of the three original battlegrounds of Azeroth, Alterac Valley is found in the eastern end of the zone. With the Alliance siding with the Stormpike Guard and the Horde siding with the Frostwolf Clan, players can duke it out in a 40 vs. 40 player match to prevail and rise in the ranks. Players can earn reputation, complete battleground-specific quests, and earn noteworthy achievements through their actions in the instanced battleground.

The Alliance stronghold is to the north while Horde enter from the south.

As with other battlegrounds, players can use their reputation and honor points to get new items and armor.
8. What herb can only be found in Alterac Mountains?

Answer: Wintersbite

A rare herb which requires Herbalists to be at level 195 or higher, Wintersbite is only pickable in Alterac Mountains in the snowier regions (it can't be obtained in the grassy areas). As it is more difficult to find, it's only used in few Alchemy potions/elixirs, weapon enchants, and inscriptions.

While Ghost Mushrooms and Icecap are also rare to pick in their own right, they're found elsewhere in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. Fadeleaf, although it can be obtained in the foothills of the Alterac region, can also be found elsewhere in Azeroth.
9. Which zone connects to Alterac Mountains to the north?

Answer: Western Plaguelands

A higher-level zone (one of the highest in Eastern Kingdomes), Western Plaguelands (affectionately known to most as 'WPL') is a scourge-driven zone of haunted farmsteads, Scarlet forces, and evil, diseased, undead creatures. Players can head north up the road through Alterac Mountains to reach Chillwind Camp, an Alliance-centric outpost...in fact, the only outpost...in the entirety of the zone. Alterac Mountains also shares borders to Silverpine Forest to the west and The Hinterlands to the east, but the path across Alterac will only lead to WPL and Hillsbrad Foothills to the south.
10. How many instanced dungeons are found in the Alterac Mountains?

Answer: None

Although Alterac does not contain any instanced areas, many of the surrounding regions do, and at quite varied level ranges. Silverpine Forest to the east contains the low-level dungeon, Shadowfang Keep, in its southern reaches near Greymane Wall, the entrance to Gilneas. To the northwest, Tirisfal Glades contains four wings of the Scarlet Monastery, made for players between level 30 and 40. Finally, to the north, the Western Plaguelands contain the necromancy school, Scholomance, in Caer Darrow at its southern end in the center of Darrowmere Lake.

This is the highest instance in an adjacent zone for players in their level 50s.
