Vanilla WoW Locations Trivia Questions

1. Morgan's Vigil is centric to which faction?

From Quiz
"World of Warcraft" - Burning Steppes

Answer: Alliance

Hiding in the southeast cliffs of Burning Steppes, this town is populated by no more than five NPCs and contains a flightpath, hearthstone location, and traders. While otherwise run-down, the town is one of the closest outposts for Alliance players to the nearby instance hub. The only other Alliance town close-by would be Thorium Point, a neutral outpost for both Alliance and Horde players to the far north. None of the buildings in town are inhabited by NPCs; they all live in tents.

2. There is only one major town in Swamp of Sorrows. What is its name?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Swamp of Sorrows

Answer: Stonard

Stonard is strictly a Horde town, and quite the important one. Because many of the nearby zones are Alliance-centric (for example, Darkshire, Westfall, Redridge Mountains, Elwynn Forest, etc.), Stonard is a fairly large Horde locale, so much so that you can actually learn to teleport or portal into it as a Horde character. There are numerous merchants, questgivers, and trainers, a flightpath location, and an inn within the town's walls. No matter which direction you head out of Stonard, you walk into the swamp.

3. Darkshire, the only major settlement in Duskwood, is of which faction?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Duskwood

Answer: Alliance

Like many zones to the north, Darkshire is supportive of Alliance players and as such it's the only location in the zone to contain a flightpath location (sending players to other southern locales in the Eastern Kingdoms. Darkshire is along the eastern side of the zone at a point where the paths meet at a perpendicular intersection. The north-south path takes players along the eastern border of the zone while the path heading to the east takes players to other (higher-level) zones. Darkshire contains a town hall, an inn, and several NPCs in nearby houses. Players will only find some profession trainers here- none for classes.

4. What is the name of the major town found in Redridge Mountains?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Redridge Mountains

Answer: Lakeshire

Lakeridge is a lakeside haven for Alliance questers in the twenties level range. The path from the nearby starter zone takes players directly here if they so choose, but leveling through this beginner area doesn't necessarily get players straight to the Redridge Mountains. Lakeshire contains an inn, several trainers and traders, questgivers, and a flightpath location for Alliance players. It is an Alliance location, hostile to the Horde. Only one of the bordering zones is Horde anyways.

5. Westfall borders what body of water?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Westfall

Answer: The Great Sea

Westfall can be found on the western edge of Azeroth on the shores of the Eastern Kingdoms. As such, the entire area is comprised of farm-covered lowlands bordering the sea. This plains-covered zone is meant for players from level 10-20, so anyone coming from the nearby starting area (for Humans) is likely to head in this direction in order to progress through leveling. Nearly half of the zone's perimeter is sandy coastline and beaches.

6. All Human players begin their journeys at what location in Elwynn Forest?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Elwynn Forest

Answer: Northshire Abbey

Immediately after creating your new Human character, you'll appear in front of the Abbey and commence your starter quests. The Abbey, found in the middle of the forest at the end of a path, contains many low-level NPC characters whose sole purpose is to help you through the baby steps of the game. Within the Abbey, players can converse with people in the Main Hall, Hall of Arms, and a Library Wing. Merchants and traders can be found at caravans outside the Abbey while a Resurrection Shrine can be found to the side of the structure.

7. What is the name of the only settled town in this zone?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Searing Gorge

Answer: Thorium Point

Thorium Point rests in the northern cliffs of the zone looking over the charred wastes below. This neutral outpost contains one of the continent's most central flightpaths, a necessity for players attempting to reach the major dungeon location to the south. The Thorium Brotherhood, a group of neutral dwarves, operate this town and provide a number of level 50-range quests, a hearthstone location, and traders. There are no trainers in this town.

8. What is the name of the starting village for new Dwarf players?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Dun Morogh

Answer: Anvilmar

A quiet town kept in the Coldridge Valley, Anvilmar is a seemingly uneventful place. Although Anvilmar is simply a starter village, its quests and occurrences are somewhat necessary for new players as you'll likely reach level 5 or so before heading out. Anvilmar's quests will take players all around Coldridge Valley to defeat Troggs and wolves of many types. Anvilmar is found in the northern portion of Coldridge Valley while Coldridge Pass is in the northeast and the rest of the area to the south contains a number of quests and objectives.

9. What is the name of Loch Modan's Alliance town?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Loch Modan

Answer: Thelsamar

Although all of the choices are clearly Alliance towns, Thelsamar is the only Alliance town- check that- the only town overall in Loch Modan. Found along the main road through the zone (in the west end from north to south), players can visit Thelsamar in this Alliance-centric zone in order to complete level 10 to 20 quests and start new ones for across the map of the region. Thelsamar contains an inn, a hearthstone setting location, and a flightpath for Alliance players. Additionally, a few traders can be found in the town along with the basic amenities you need to partake in certain secondary professions.

10. What is the name of the only town in the zone? (Hint: It's an Alliance town.)

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Wetlands

Answer: Menethil Harbor

I guess this sort of pushes the Wetlands into being more of an Alliance-centric zone. Alliance players passing through should stop in at this city on the western coast of the zone in Menethil Bay. Aside from the usual inn, traders, trainers, and flightpath location, Menethil Harbor also contains boat paths to Theramore Isle in Dustwallow Marsh (on Kalimdor's east coast) and Valgarde in the Howling Fjord (in Northrend). Menethil Harbor is also the home to the popular Captain Placeholder who was once able to teleport players to Auberdine in Darkshore.

11. What is the name of the Alliance town in this zone?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Arathi Highlands

Answer: Refuge Pointe

Although all of the listed possibilities are Alliance-based cities and towns, only Refuge Pointe is found in the Arathi Highlands. Located in (pretty much) the center of the Arathi Highlands, Refuge Pointe is situated on the former location of Stromgarde, a major city for Human forces. Although players can't find an inn here, they can find a flightpath and a number of traders for any necessary buying and selling at this point. A number of characters from the League of Arathor are also found here, so players planning to explore the PvP battleground around here can stop in.

12. Tarren Mill's flightpath connects to what major Horde city?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Hillsbrad Foothills

Answer: The Undercity

Tarren Mill is found in the northern region of the Hillsbrad Foothills near the northern border. Many Undercity-based quest chains can continue through this town, and players will find Tarren Mill to be a very important flightpath location during their journeys. If players go through the Caverns of Time, they can go to a past mission in which Tarren Mill has not yet been destroyed by the Scourge (which also brought the Plaguelands to its current state). Tarren Mill also contains an inn, numerous trainers and traders, and a caravan-load of quest-givers. This town is the main quest hub for Hillsbrad Horde players.

13. Quite notably, Alterac Mountains was once the home of Dalaran. Where can players reach Dalaran instead?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Alterac Mountains

Answer: Northrend

Although Dalaran had always been blocked off to players by a large dome-like barrier, the events shortly preceding "Wrath of the Lich King" sent Dalaran skyward, leaving a large crater in its original place. Now, to reach Dalaran, players need to be in their level 60s or 70s (or higher) and they need to travel to the region of Northrend to find it. Dalaran is the main city for the expansion, and players can access it from Crystalsong Forest in the center of the continent. Players can also drop down into Dalaran Crater to look around in Alterac Mountains, but it's doubtful you'll find much of anything.

14. What is the name of the only location in the Eastern Plaguelands to contain an inn for all players?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Eastern Plaguelands

Answer: Light's Hope Chapel

Light's Hope Chapel, found in the eastern end of the zone, is the only 'safe zone' per se. Occupied by Argent Dawn members, it's the primary quest hub and sanctuary for both Alliance and horde characters. In addition, many opportunities can arise here for a player to earn Argent Dawn reputation. Containing a flightpath location, a hearthstone set point, and many vendors, it's a last vestige for high level players traveling through one of the most dangerous zones in the original version of "World of Warcraft" without expansions. The paths of the zone don't lead to Light's Hope; you need to venture off on your own to get here.

15. What is the name of this zone's Horde outpost?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Azshara

Answer: Valormok

Valormok is relatively off-the-beaten-path. As evidenced by the outpost's makeshift camp setting, it's hardly a permanent residence for locals. Containing the only Horde flightpath of Azshara, the outpost is somewhat useful- especially since the NPCs here will give players some of the only Azshara quests for Horde players. Most of these will take players across the northern regions of the zone and the central areas. There is no inn available in Valormok, but it is typically free of enemies. It can be found north of Haldarr Encampment.

16. What is the name of the only flightpath location in Winterspring?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Winterspring

Answer: Everlook

Found in the center of the zone, Everlook is a goblin-run outpost headed by the Steamwheedle Cartel (based out of Gadgetzan for the most part). The town contains most of the traders you'll need to find including an inn, trader, and profession traders. The town contains no trainers though there is a banker. Player will reach Everlook for the first time by passing through from the west. A path leads directly from the previous zone into the center of the outpost. This is the northeastern-most city on Kalimdor, and one of the only ones to contain snow.

17. Darkshore rests on which body of water?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Darkshore

Answer: The Veiled Sea

Darkshore is the northwestern-most zone on the continent of Kalimdor although other zones rest off the shore of the landmass. Stretching along this top corner, the zone is filled with darkened forest areas as well as a gloomy oceanfront shoreline filled with aquatic enemies. The Veiled Sea also borders Feralas, Desolace, and Ashenvale while Stonetalon Mountains and Silithus, the only other two zones to border the sea, are landlocked by mountain ranges and thus have no access to the waters. The Great Sea separates Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms while The Forbidden Sea is on the east end of the Eastern Kingdoms. Lake Elune'ara is in Moonglade.

18. In order to claim the 'Explore Moonglade' achievement, how many areas must be explored?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Moonglade

Answer: One

Possibly the shortest area for exploring in the game, players only need to step on the shores of Lake Elune'ara, a relatively easy task for any player entering the zone. Lake Elune'ara, found in the direct center of the zone, is the area's largest feature, and walking anywhere near it will instantly reveal the entirety of the zone's map. By far, this is Kalimdor's smallest zone. In the Eastern Kingdoms, the Isle of Quel'Danas and Deadwind Pass are the smallest.

19. What is the name of the Horde outpost in Desolace?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Desolace

Answer: Shadowprey Village

A coastal town, this small fishing outpost sits on the western coast of the Desolace nestled in the cliffs adjacent to the sea. Although strictly a Horde outpost, it's quite quaint, containing a few different trainers and trading NPCs. A number of quest-givers here will allow Horde players to explore the southern and western regions of the zone with good reason while some will provoke players to travel into the zone's sole instance, Maraudon. Shadowprey Village contains a flightpath location which connects to a number of locations along the western side of Kalimdor.

20. Chillwind Camp is the only town in the zone. Which faction controls it?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Western Plaguelands

Answer: Alliance

Chillwind Camp is perhaps the southernmost location in the Western Plaguelands literally squeezing against the border below. There are numerous quest NPCs found here as well as a flightpath and a few different services though it's nothing to write home about. This is somewhat of a hub for Alliance players though and it remains quite close to some of the major locations found within the zone. Additionally, Horde players will come across the town in order to complete a quest for the Argent Dawn, though it's not required to advance through the game necessarily.

21. Near the eastern border of Feralas, what is the name of the only Horde outpost in the zone?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Feralas

Answer: Camp Mojache

Players entering Feralas from the east will find themselves trekking up a path in the Lower Wilds which will take them through the heart of the village known as Camp Mojache. This town will be the only Pit Stop for Horde players in the area as the remaining locales are strictly Alliance-based. Here, a flightpath can be implemented and a number of local quests for players from level 45-55 can be completed in the surrounding jungle. Additionally, there are Herbalism and Alchemy trainers located on one side of the bridge in the center of town and an inn in the largest building in the west end. The town sits between the Lower Wilds and The Writhing Deep.

22. What is the name of the Alliance town found in the west end of The Hinterlands?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - The Hinterlands

Answer: Aerie Peak

If you're heading into The Hinterlands from the southeast, the path will lead you directly into Aerie Peak, the Alliance town situated in the western mountain range of the zone. This city is home to a number of traders and the majority of quest NPCs for the entire area. Populated by dwarves, it is one of only two flight path locations in the zone. The city is not to be confused with the adjacent explorable area, Aerie Peaks, which is filled with enemy Gryphons. These Gryphons, as you head east, will begin to diminish the further you go, but they're still present across the majority of The Hinterlands.

23. Stonetalon Peak may be the Alliance home for this zone, but what creatures surround it?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Stonetalon Mountains

Answer: Daughter of Cenarius

Stonetalon Peak is the northernmost region of Stonetalon Mountains and possibly the most difficult to reach as no areas directly connect to it from other zones. Containing an inn, a few quest-givers, and a trainer or trader or two, Stonetalon Peak is nestled in the corner of this mountain glade. It also contains a flightpath location. The Daughters of Cenarius are human-like creatures which patrol the surrounding peak with their natural minions. Although Alliance players would find friends in these, opting to kill the Corrosive Ooze in the forests nearby, Horde players will complete a quest (given in the Horde town of the zone) to kill these dryads. They won't be higher than level 25 in battle.

24. Theramore Isle connects to which other Alliance city by boat?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Dustwallow Marsh

Answer: Menethil Harbor

Theramore Isle, found on a peninsula on the eastern coast of Dustwallow Marsh (and Kalimdor for that matter) is the Alliance city in the zone as well as the largest city in the area. Well known for being the home city of Jaina Proudmoore, the city houses numerous traders and trainers as well as quests for Alliance players in the Marsh. Menethil Harbor is found in Wetlands on the western coast of the Eastern Kingdoms, and while it's quite the level drop from Dustwallow Marsh to the Wetlands, it gives good access for players to reach the city of Iron Forge in Dun Morogh.

25. Gadgetzan is run by which race?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Tanaris

Answer: Goblins

Pretty much the hub for all that is Tanaris, Gadgetzan is the first location players will access if arriving from the north. This rather nice town is home to a number of neutral traders and quest-givers as well as profession trainers, and because of this a lot of players of both factions will visit it to level and quest. Many of the features of this town run on clockwork, a major goblin feature, and players will find one of the most southerly flight paths in Kalimdor at this location. Gadgetzan is one of only two 'friendly' locations you'll find in the entirety of the zone.

26. In which town found in Red Cloud Mesa do Tauren players start their games?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Mulgore

Answer: Camp Narache

Red Cloud Mesa is a large area of Mulgore designed for new Tauren players to take their baby steps, much like Sunstrider Isle in Eversong Woods or the Valley of Trials in Durotar. Tauren, being a Horde race, will find that this area caters to the professions and classes of Tauren available to play in many ways. Camp Narache is the very first town any new Tauren player will visit, and any new Shaman players will be able to earn their Earth Totem with little strain. Camp Narache itself contains a few traders and trainers to get the first-time started as well as a number of quest-giving NPCs, but once the player is level 5, it should be due time to leave.

27. The Great Lift is probably one of the earlier areas in Thousand Needles you'll face. Which direction will you be heading to reach them at the top of the cliff?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Thousand Needles

Answer: South

The Great Lift is literally a rather large elevator system that takes players from the entrance of Thousand Needles at the top to the basin of the canyon containing the needles themselves. This area is the first to be met on any journey south through The Barrens (and past Razorfen Kraul and Razorfen Downs). The entire zone of Thousand Needles stretches from the northwest to the southeast, and while The Great Lift is not the most northerly location in the area, it's closer than most.

28. What is the name of the long path which spans the length of The Barrens from north to south?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - The Barrens

Answer: Gold Road

Gold Road begins at the northern tip of The Barrens at the entrance to Mor'Shan Rampart and continues to the southern tip of the zone near Thousand Needles. Cutting directly through The Crossroads in the northern half, the Gold Road also has small tributaries leading directly to Ratchet, Camp Turajo, and Bael Modan. This feature of the area ensures that it's not easy to stray too far from the beaten path and while The Barrens is one of the larger areas in the game and in Kalimdor, everything stays fairly close to the main road. The Gold Road is bisected by a bridge which, when crossed from the north, leads to 'Southern Gold Road'. The further south players head, the more difficult the enemies tend to be.

29. What race can be created in Tirisfal Glades?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Tirisfal Glades

Answer: Undead

Because of this, Tirisfal Glades is primarily a Horde-based area, accommodating for Horde players from levels 1 through 15, and then higher for instances. The main city in Tirisfal Glades, the Undercity, is the Undead home city in the game. Furthermore, advancement is easily emphasized in this area. Players can either fly (via zeppelin) to Durotar and begin their quests there and move on to The Barrens, or heading to the south past the Undercity, one can go to Silverpine Forest for players from level 10 to 20. Tirisfal Glades is in the northwestern corner of the Eastern Kingdoms.

30. What is the name of the major Horde outpost in Ashenvale?

From Quiz "World of Warcraft" - Ashenvale

Answer: Splintertree Post

Splintertree Post, if you're coming from the south, will be down the right fork on the major road. This larger-sized settlement will be important to visit for any Horde players passing through and hoping to jump into quests for their level range. Splintertree contains one of the two flight path locations for Horde in Ashenvale as well as numerous quest NPCs, traders, and trainers. Although none of this may be of use to players of certain levels and professions, it's good to keep around on the map. Outside Splintertree Post is a watchtower by the edge of the road; Horde players can probably find more quests here as well.
