Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Morgan's Vigil is centric to which faction?

Answer: Alliance

Hiding in the southeast cliffs of Burning Steppes, this town is populated by no more than five NPCs and contains a flightpath, hearthstone location, and traders. While otherwise run-down, the town is one of the closest outposts for Alliance players to the nearby instance hub.

The only other Alliance town close-by would be Thorium Point, a neutral outpost for both Alliance and Horde players to the far north. None of the buildings in town are inhabited by NPCs; they all live in tents.
2. Morgan's Vigil is one of the two outposts found in Burning Steppes. What is the other?

Answer: Flame Crest

Flame Crest, while it only contains a flightpath location for Horde players, is an otherwise neutral location in Burning Steppes containing quests, traders, and trainers. This is only regarded as a neutral area because there are no Horde guards to attack Alliance players who venture in. Flame Crest is found in a northern portion of the zone, north of the Ruins of Thaurissan, but it doesn't contribute to the overall exploration of the zone, so players can do everything they need to do to unveil the map without visiting it.
3. Is the Pillar of Ash a large ash flume?

Answer: No

The Pillar of Ash is actually a spire and grouping of houses in the central region of the zone. Players won't find actual ash there by any means, but they will be able to find a number of Orcs and their residences. The Orcs found here will range in level from level 52-54 and really can't poses as a threat if you stay on the path heading by the area.

The Orcs are of the Blackrock variety and are higher levels than most Orcs in the original "World of Warcraft".
4. What colour Dragonflight are common in this zone?

Answer: Black

No matter which compass direction you travel in the zone, you're likely do come across dragons in the Black Dragonflight family. Black Drakes of level 51 are in the low range of these in eastern Burning Steppes (particularly in Terror Wing Path). Scalding Drakes of level 53 and 54 can be found all over the southern regions of Burning Steppes while Searscale Drakes at the high end of the scale (level 58) can be seen in Draco'dar in the northwest. Black Dragonspawn and Dragonwhelps can be found at lower levels throughout the zone.
5. Dreadmaul Rock contains what type of enemy?

Answer: Ogres

Dreadmaul Rock is a large area in the western end of the Burning Steppes containing Fire Gut Ogres, usually in the level 52 vicinity. This difficult-to-climb land formation contains rather extensive caves for nearby quests at Morgan's Vigil and Flame Crest if you're so inclined to venture in.

A number of high-level (for original "World of Warcraft" at least) herbs can also be extracted from the platforms around the cliffs. There are three cave entrances on Dreadmaul Rock's many faces.
6. How many large statues can be found looking upon the Altar of Storms?

Answer: Three

The Altar of Storms is a unique location found in the northwest corner of Burning Steppes. Players coming here will find an altar location guarded by Blackrock Mages resting on an island in a pool of red-hot lava. Two scholars can be found in a small encampment on a nearby cliff, but unless you have a quest for the area, there's really little to be done here.

The Altar of Storms is slightly west of the zone's instance, but to reach it you'll need to head through the cliffs to its south. A similar altar can be found in Blasted Lands.
7. Black Lotus, a rare herb, can be found in this zone.

Answer: True

Black Lotus can only be found in four zones: Burning Steppes, Winterspring, Silithus, and Eastern Plaguelands. All four of these are the highest-level zones for original "World of Warcraft" players. Black Lotus is only used in specific Alchemy items craftable at level 50 (with 300 Herbalism rank).

Another rare herb at this level is Bloodvine (and it's only found in Zul'Gurub in Stranglethorn Vale) but it's not used for Alchemy at all. For those without "Burning Crusade", fully-trained alchemy is required to use the Black Lotus.
8. The Ruins of Thaurissan were once a city run by what Dwarven faction?

Answer: Dark Iron Dwarves

Named after Sorcerer-thane Thaurissan (whose statue can be seen elsewhere in the game), The Ruins of Thaurissan can be along the northern cliffs of the Burning Steppes and players can visit it to encounter level 53 spies, War Reavers or collect the few remaining Thaurissan Relics scattered amongst the destroyed houses. Dagran Thaurissan, a descendant of the town's namesake, is found as a level 56 elite boss in Blackrock Depths.
9. What zone connects to the south of Burning Steppes?

Answer: Redridge Mountains

Redridge Mountains is an Alliance-centric area for players questing from level 15 to 25. Players moving between these two areas is an unlikely in the normal course of things as Horde players would only head south here to raid or explore and Alliance characters are far from an appropriate level heading north from Lakeshire at the correct time. Burning Steppes also connects to Searing Gorge at the north and by flightpath to many other areas. Searing Gorge is for players from level 45 and up.
10. A series of instances can be found connected to Burning Steppes. What instance hub is this?

Answer: Blackrock Mountain

Blackrock Mountain is in the northwest region of Burning Steppes. This instance hub is home to Blackrock Spire, Blackrock Depths, Blackwing Lair, and Molten Core, all of which range from level 50 to 60. "It's also home to "Cataclysm" dungeons Blackrock Cavern and Blackrock Descent for high-level players. Blackrock Mountain is found between Searing Gorge and Burning Steppes, so players can actually pass through this empty hub in order to reach the successive zone whether you're heading north or south.
