Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of Loch Modan's Alliance town?

Answer: Thelsamar

Although all of the choices are clearly Alliance towns, Thelsamar is the only Alliance town- check that- the only town overall in Loch Modan. Found along the main road through the zone (in the west end from north to south), players can visit Thelsamar in this Alliance-centric zone in order to complete level 10 to 20 quests and start new ones for across the map of the region.

Thelsamar contains an inn, a hearthstone setting location, and a flightpath for Alliance players. Additionally, a few traders can be found in the town along with the basic amenities you need to partake in certain secondary professions.
2. What is the name of the dam found on 'The Loch'?

Answer: Stonewrought Dam

This huge structure found at the northern end of The Loch, the large body of water across the center of the zone, is another one of the many Dwarven creations which dot the surrounding zones. Because The Loch is filled with water from under the lake itself, the dam prevents water from flowing through and flooding the Wetlands far downstream. Chief Engineer Hinderweir VII can be found on the dam along with many other Alliance-friendly Dwarves. Because of this, Alliance players can obtain and complete local quests pertaining to the success of the dam.
3. Mo'Grosh Stronghold is found in which compass direction?

Answer: Northeast

Mo'Grosh Stronghold is a series of caves and a small village in the northeast corner of Loch Modan. Players used to visit this small area to fight elite Ogres, but they were changed to regular ogres after a later patch. Nonetheless, players can still visit this region to fight in the higher-end of enemies for the zone (which ranges from level 10 to 20). Chok'sul, an elite ogre at level 22, can still be found here, and a Wanted Poster in Thelsamar will give a quest which bodes for a good reward when you return it to Magistrate Bluntnose.
4. The Farstrider Lodge contains a flightpath location.

Answer: False

Despite the fact that this small Alliance outpost in the southeast corner of Loch Modan will give players a few quests and traders, it's not significant in terms of travel arrangements. Vyrin Swiftwind, a High Elf and a member of the Farstriders, is a level 15 NPC responsible for leading this large manor house alongside the Dwarf, Marek Ironheart. None of the paths through Loch Modan actually reach the Farstrider Lodge, so players will need to trek a fair distance off the beaten path in order to reach it, much like the rest of the Farstrider locations across the Eastern Kingdoms.
5. What types of creatures patrol the Ironband Excavation Site?

Answer: Troggs

Ironband's Excavation Site was originally run by the aptly named Prospector Stormpike who can be found in Ironforge. One of the quests that this Dwarven NPC gives takes Alliance players to the Uldaman dungeon in the Badlands to the south. Ironband's Excavation Site, much like the other Dwarven dig sites in adjacent zones, is infested with some sort of enemy unit.

In this case, the enemy unit du jour is the Stonesplinter Trogg, a creature with a ravenous attitude which doesn't reach higher than level 20 on any given occasion. Prospector Ironband, a new prospector, has taken over the mine site.
6. The Loch is the largest lake in all of the "World of Warcraft".

Answer: False

The Loch, which the entire zone of Loch Modan is named after, is actually the third-largest inland body of water in "World of Warcraft", only to Lordamere Lake in Silverpine Forest and Darrowmere Lake in the Western Plaguelands. The Loch is notable for containing a number of seemingly unimportant islands (unless you're a low-level quester in the zone) as well as a couple of Loch Ness-esque monsters in its depths.

Other than this, only a few Troggs can be found occupying the northern part of the lake's island chain and a number of Crocolisks can be found along the shore line.

Thelsamar is on the Loch's western bank.
7. In the Valley of Kings, you need which of these to open a gate?

Answer: A key

A gate in the southwestern-most corner of the Loch Modan map will lead out of Loch Modan and into another zone, but in order to pass through the gate you need a key. The locked gate itself is guarded by Mountaineer Pebblebitty, a high-level NPC who requires that certain Alliance quests be completed. For Horde players- passing through is a bit more difficult; you'll need to go through another entire zone to reach the same location (whee!).

The key leads into a tunnel known as Stonewrought Pass, and to get it, there's a bit of traveling around to Ironforge and back...more than once.
8. Which of these contains enemies hostile to both Alliance and Horde players?

Answer: Stonesplinter Valley

Let's put it this way: if you're a horde character, you're simply not getting away with anything in this zone- your character is going to be hostile to pretty much everything you happen to run into here. In regards to Alliance players however, Algaz Station is found at the north end of the path running across the zone near Dun Algaz, the extensively long mountain route. Both North Gate Pass and South Gate Pass, found along the western cliffs and mountains in the zone, are safe zones made for easy transportation. Stonesplinter Valley is the odd one out; like Ironband's Excavation Site, it's populated by Stonespliter Troggs, but they'll be a lower level.
9. What is the highest level zone which connects (physically) to Loch Modan?

Answer: Searing Gorge

The Searing Gorge, found on the other side of the Valley of Kings and Stonewrought Pass, is ranged from level 40 to 50, and Alliance players going there will need a key to enter the cavernous pass. Dun Morogh can be reached from both North Gate Pass and South Gate Pass along the western edges of Loch Modan, and literally, you only need to walk through the paths through the mountains to get there.

It's the Dwarven starting area, so it's only for players from level 1 to 10. Dun Algaz separates Loch Modan (a level 10-20 zone) from the Wetlands to the north (a level 20-30 zone). Additionally, players heading south out of Loch Modan will come across the Badlands, a level 35-45 zone. Phew.
10. This zone contains no instanced dungeons.

Answer: True

Although Loch Modan doesn't actually contain any instances, players can head west to Dun Morogh in order to visit Gnomeregan, a level 28-35 dungeon for players looking for a not-too-difficult challenge area. Badlands, to the south, also contain Uldaman in its northern area.

This level 35-45 dungeon is in the Khaz Mountains. Finally, the Searing Gorge to the southwest also contains access to one of the most difficult instances in the game, the Blackrock Mountain quest hub, containing numerous high-level instance locations.

There are many dungeons up to level 60 here as well as some reaching level 85 with the addition of "Cataclysm".
